Abstract

The maintenance and preservation of Indonesian traditional knowledge and folklore is urgently needed. Traditional knowledge and folktale are cultural heritages that provide intangible wealth for Indonesia. This paper provides a brief analysis of the traditional values transmitted by our folktales and the functions served by local legends and myths in Plunturan society. This paper offers some practical recommendations for collecting our folktales, myths, and legends in the form of text using the currently available digital technology to create the first comprehensive and dynamic Plunturan folktales. This community service focuses on the problems that can arise when documenting folklore and traditional knowledge. what solutions should be done to overcome these problems. The method used in this study is by interviewing the resource person. The results of this study conclude that text documentation needs to be done to preserve folklore and traditional knowledge.Keywords: Traditional knowledge, Folktales, Plunturan, Documenting

Abstract

Abstract. Makalah ini membahas studi tentang ambisi Clym Yeobright dalam karya Thomas Hardy berjudul The Return of the Native. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis apa penyebab timbulnya ambisi, usaha untuk mencapainya dan akibat dari ambisi Clym. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan intrinsik terhadap unsur karya sastra, yaitu plot, karakter dan latar. Metode kualitatif deskriptif diterapkan dalam analisis untuk mencari jawaban atas permasalahan ambisi Clym. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ambisi Clym untuk menjadi pengajar dan mendirikan sekolah bagi orang-orang miskin dipengaruhi oleh kondisi Egdon Heath. Usaha keras untuk mewujudkan ambisinya mendapatkan berbagai rintangan, bahkan ia harus kehilangan istri dan ibunya. Gantinya menjadi pengajar, Clym kemudian menjadi pengkhotbah.Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menambah wawasan tentang tema kehidupan yang digambarkan melalui karya sastra. Keywords: Literary analysis, intrinsic approach, thematic analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT. In communication, language becomes a dominant element. In a formal situation, such as in an academic activity, it is the formal language that is used. One of the features of a formal language is that the whole sentences are in the form of effective sentences. Effective sentences require: economical sentence; having a logical meaning of the sentence; the existence of clear subject and predicate; well parallel row of words; firmly sentence meaning; solid-grammatical word group; no interferences of foreign  structure and vocabulary; no redundancy; no discriminating words; applying Indonesian Spelling System (EYD) accurately and consistently. Key words: ragam bahasa formal, kalimat efektif, komunikasi, Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan (EYD)

Abstract

Abstrak. Artikel ini membahas pentingnya kebahagiaan dalam kehidupan sebagaimana digambarkan dalam novel Eat, Pray, Love karya Elizabeth Gilbert. Penelitian ini menganalisis kehidupan seorang penulis yang sukses yang memiliki pengalaman tragis namun penuh pelajaran dalam usahanya mencari kebahagiaan sejati. Permasalahan yang diajukan meliputi perspektif kebahagiaan tokoh cerita serta penyebab dan akibat dari pencarian kebahagiaan tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kasus kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa perspektif tokoh tentang kebahagiaan meliputi: simple life, friendships, spiritual development, love of nature, kindness. Penyebab pencarian kebahagiaan meliputi unhappy marriage, insecure relationship, self-underestimate, and discontentment. Sementara akibat dari ketidakbahagiaan adalah feeling ungrateful, hurting others, depression and loneliness, spiritual pilgrimage.Keywords: theme analysis, pursuit of happiness

Abstract

Abstract. Menjadi seorang exile dan kerinduan akan tanah air adalah tema yang di-ekspose oleh dua penulis yaitu, Agam Wispi dan Leila S. Chudori. Karena alas an politik Agam Wispi harus meninggalkan negara asalnya yaitu Indonesia dan hidup sebagai seorang eksil. Kerinduan akan tanah airnya diungkapkan dalam puisinya yang berjudul Pulang. Novel Leila S. Chudori yang berjudul Pulang, juga bercerita tentangkehidupan seorang eksil yang bernama Dimas Suryo. Latar belakang Pulang dimulai pada tahun 1965 dan berakhir pada tahun 1998. Dimas Suryo, dan rekan-rekannya yang menghadiri konferensi wartawan di Santiago, Chili, pada saat terjadiperistiwa G 30 S tidak bias pulang karena paspor mereka dicabut dan mereka tidak bisa kembali ke Indonesia. Pindah dari Cile ke Kuba kemudian ke China, akhirnya berakhir menetap di Paris di mana mereka membuka restoran. Meskipun dipisahkan oleh jarak yang jauh dari tanah air mereka, kerinduan mereka untuk berhubungan dengan Indonesia adalah kunci dari novel tersebut.Tulisan ini mengeksplorasi hubungan intertekstual antara Pulang karya Agam Wispi dan Pulang karya Leila S.Chudori. Dengan menggunakan teoriinterteks yang diekspose oleh Roland Barthes dan Rifatterre, makalah ini berupaya untuk melihat bagaimana Pulang karyaAgam Wispi, seorang penulis eksil Indonesia, memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan dengan Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori, seorang penulis wanita Indonesia yang terkenal pada saat ini.Keywords: intertextuality, exiles

Abstract

The study discusses the strategies used by ludruk groups as the survival strategies of Ludruk as a traditional form of art in Surabaya during the New Order. In Surabaya, there are at least three popular Ludruk groups: the groups of Ludruk RRI Surabaya, Cak Kartolo, and Irama Budaya. The success of Ludruk RRI Surabaya can be seen from their continuity and their success at socializing the government programs; the success of Kartolo is marked by 95 tapes which are well received; while the success of Irama Budaya is proven with the great number of audience (around 500) in 1998-2003. The analysis method applied is Pierre Bourdieu’s genetic structuralism method. Based on the study, it is found that the strategies used by the ludruk groups in Surabaya are playing the role as the government’s art media, optimalizing dagelan (comedy), and giving space for the minority while maintaining convension. Abstract

ABSTRACT Narrative can grow and develop regardless of geographical background. Of the various definitions of narrative, most of them relate the two main characteristics of it, namely: 1) events, governed by temporality-chronology of events and their presentation in the text; 2) telling or making a story, as a verbal act of mediation. Narrative is used to accommodate the interests of society such as ideology, nationalism, social relations, cultural order. These aspects include natural aspects, geographical aspects, social aspects, cultural aspects, political aspects, historical aspects, philosophical aspects, anthropological aspects, economic aspects, language aspects, artistic aspects, mythological aspects, technological aspects. Research on the ethnographic aspects of the people of plunturan village seeks to reveal the problems formulated as follows; 1. How is the construction of cultural products built by the villagers of plunturan, pulung district, kab. Ponorogo. 2. How the narrative was created by the villagers of Plunturan Pulung, Ponorogo? The phenomenon of narrative, literary works, art works, and cultural products are entities that are interrelated with one another, this also occurs in the community of plunturan village. Ethnography is defined as a form of investigation that relies heavily on participant observation, at least researchers are in a marginal position, trying to document in detail, patterns of interaction, people's perspectives, and patterns of their daily understanding and manifest the imagination of the people of plunturan kec. Abstract

In the collection of poems Aku ingin Jadi Peluru (2000), Wiji Thukul’s poems describe the social realities of poverty and repression which are suffered by proletarian people. His poems represent repression, cruelty of authority towards proletarian people. Thukul condition which is suffered in poverty and repression encourages him to protest unfairness bravely, to move social change, and to fight the cruelty of authority.

Abstract

This study discusses child abuse in Meg Elison’s Find Layla. The purpose of this study is to describe the forms, character objectification, causes and effects of child abuse experienced by Layla and Andy. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. This study uses a psychological approach. The psychoanalysis is used to evaluate the characters in the novel. Sue & Chamberline’s four domains of child abuse causes are used in this study. Martha Nussabaum’s objectification theory is used to analyze in what ways the abuser objectifies the child. Joyce Shannon’s theory of violence against children is also used in this study to determine the impact of child abuse in the novel. There are four forms of violence experienced by Layla and Andy: neglect, physical abuse, psychological abuse and sexual abuse. Darlene’s objectification of the child abuse is shown by treating her child as an object. It is found that there are two ways that Darlene objectifies her child, namely violability and denial of subjectivity. There are three causes of Darlene’s child abuse: divorce, past childhood experiences, and mental illness. The impact of child abuse experienced by Layla and Andy is physical and psychological. The physical impact of child abuse experienced by Layla and Andy is malnutrition. The psychological impact experienced by Layla is anxiety disorder and Andy has post traumatic stress disorder. Andy also experience difficulties in language and speech.
