Abstract

This paper aims to uncover problems about: (1) How the effects of ecological changes on the life of the puppets of Thengul Ngawi and (2) How the effects of ecological changes on the aesthetics of the puppet show Thengul Ngawi. The problems that have been raised are then examined using an ecological and aesthetic approach to puppetry. The existence, life, shape and influence of ecological changes to wayang Thengul which includes the intensity of performances, functions and meanings in the community are examined using the aesthetic concept of populist puppetry. The results of the study that ecological changes occurring in the Ngawi region affect the wayang thengul art. The influence makes it a form of rural-style art belonging to the people of Ngawi, especially in Karangjati District.Keywords: Ecology, Arts, Puppet Thengul.

Abstract

This article aims to give a short explanation about the theory of symbol in epistemology perspective especially related to the assumption, model, concept and method developed in anthropology. From the assumption point of view, the theory of symbol assume  human as being animal symbolicum who always use their own symbols in interaction so that there is any relationship between text and context. Text is a model of symbol while context is situation which gives meaning to the text (symbol). Positioning symbol in social context means enlarging the meaning of symbol. Meaning is not only what is inherited as we can found in Pakeliran but it is something negotiated because of social interaction process in space and time in society. for the reason, this article offers generic meaning concept and differencial meaning concept in order to avoid the establishing meaning. This implies methodologically especially in data collection, what is data and the interpretation method. In pakeliran, theory of symbol becomes the most important thing because pakeliran is a  symbolic world with various meanings.       Key words: Theory of symbol, Pakeliran, Epistemology of Symbol

Abstract

This article aims to provide a description about the existence of a tradition as the realityexperienced by adolescents and presented in a theatrical performance. The quistion is how theJavanese tradition experienced by adolescents and applied in a theatrical performance? Toanswer of this, the reseacher has used Bruner’s theory on the anthropology of experiance anddramatic structure from George Kernodle. Collecting datas is done by observation of differentform of theatre performance by teenegers and interviews to the actors and theatre director.The reseacher conclude that mental disposition and muscle memory was experianced by actorsand directors which is expressed in dialog, mood, and spectacle through theatre performance.Keywords: Javaness tradition, Structur, Mental Disposition.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe how the adult’s theater groups express java tradition intheir art performances, specifically when local government is focusing on revitalizing the tradition.To reach the main purpose, researcher uses cultural reproduction perspective which develops aroundsociologist and anthropologist. In data analyzing, the researcher tries to combine the cultural reproductionand dramaturgy theories in theater. Therefore the analyzing process is done by dividing structureand texture. The research result shows that there are two important points done by the adult’stheater groups. First is negotiating the performance form in the artistic and value. Second is transformingthe aesthetic of performance.Keywords: construction, reproduction, Java tradition

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find a model of Javanese power structure by using the perspective of structuralism, Levi-Strauss. Material object of this research is the history of the pap-Islamic kingdom in Java Starting fmm Demak, Pajang and Mataram Kingdoms, this is certainly an the contrary of theassumption of theoretical structuralism which makes history only supplement and not part of the data analyzed. The model structure is then transformed into lakon Wahyu Makhutarama. The source data used in this study consists of two types of data that is written data obtained fmm the writings that have beenrecorded, and research reports. Both data sources are the result of an interview recorded with a tape recorder. The results of this study indicate that the model is dialectical Javanese power structure consisting of elements of thesis, antithesis. and synthesis. The model is transfarmative to puppet stories in particular lakon wahyu Makhutarama in the Java power system, shows the dialectics of power in establishment of genealogical and transcendental.Keywords: Javanese Power, Structural Levi-Strauss, Dialectics
