Abstract

Disinfectant commonly used in water swimming pools is calcium hypochlorite {Ca(OCl) 2 }. Calcium hypochlorite is disinfectant which is used in the cleaning of water due to a searchable, inexpensive and contain approximately 70% chlorine. The use of calcium hypochlorite with improper doses will cause the formation of trihalomethane (THMs) compounds which are toxic and carcinogenic nature so that the use of calcium hypochlorite should be based on the calculation of Break Point Clorination (BPC) in order to secure for the environment. The purpose of the research was determine the opyimum dose of calcium hypochlorite in the form of crystal and solution for removal concentration of ammonium. The results obtained from the research that the optimum dose in the water swimming pools for disinfection process is not more than 10 g/L. The addition of calcium hypochlorite in the form of crystals can be removal the concentration of ammonium of 87.50% and in the form of aqueous solution of 83.30%. so it can be deduced that the addition of calcium hypochlorite in the form of crystals better than as a solution to removal the concentration of ammonium.

Abstract

Carbohydrates are a source of energy needed by the body because carbohydrates are an important food component. According to SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia), carbohydrate content in food must not be less than 60%. In this study, researchers wanted to compare the method of determining carbohydrate content according to SNI and according to AOAC (Non-SNI), both methods used Luff Schoorl, in the SNI method there was an addition of CH3COOH, whereas the Non-SNI method did not add CH3COOH. In this study a sample of a mixture of glucose, sucrose and NaCl was used. From the research results obtained indicate that there is a difference between the SNI method and Non-SNI method, where the Non-SNI method is better used at a 10% sample concentration with 250X dilution and 20% sample concentration at 500x dilution, whereas on the SNI method is better used at 30% sample concentration with 500X dilution, and the accuracy value obtained is 94.14% to 97.23%.

Abstract

Vitamin C is a source of antioxidants which has a primary function to inhibit the occurrence of an oxidation reaction and inhibit a free radical. The source of vitamin C can be found in food and beverage. This study aims to compare the measurement of vitamin C levels using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at UV and Visible wavelength. The method used in this study was the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. The analysis of vitamin C levels at UV wavelength 266 nm and Visible wavelength 494 nm with a calibration curve range 0.3 to 0.8 mg/L. Validation of the methods studied included: linearity, detection limits, quantization limits, and precision. The results showed that the measurement of vitamin C levels at UV wavelengths resulted in the linearity of concentrations of 0.2 - 0.8 mg / L, the limit of detection of 0.05 mg/L, the limit of quantization of 0.17 mg/L and level of precision with RSD to 0.2015. On the other hand, the measurement of vitamin C levels in the Visible wavelength produced linearity from concentrations of 0.3 to 0.8 mg/L, the detection limit of 0.05 mg/L, quantization limit of 0.18 mg/L and the level of precision with RSD of 1.0489. Thus, the determination of vitamin C levels in samples using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer was preferred to be measured at UV wavelengths.

Abstract

Aspartic aminotransferase (AST) is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the back and forth transfer of amino groups from aspartic acid to ?-oxaloacetic acid to form glutamic acid and oxaloacetic acid. AST is contained in erythrocytes so that if there is hemolysis, a ruptured erythrocyte will cause an increase in the activity of the AST enzyme that comes out of the erythrocyte. This study aims to determine the effect of hemolysis in serum on AST enzyme activity. This research method is experimental by comparing normal serum with hemolytic serum. The research sample involved 30 employees of the Manding Sumenep Public Health Center who would be examined for the AST enzyme activity. The results showed that the AST enzyme activity in normal serum had an average of 24.367 IU / L, while the average hemolytic serum was 39.3 IU / L. Based on the results of these data, it shows that there is an increase in AST enzyme activity in hemolytic serum compared to normal serum.

Abstract

Reticulocytes are red blood cells that are young or immature, do not have a nucleus and derived from the normoblast maturation process in the bone marrow. Hematocrit is a measurement result that states the ratio of red blood cells to blood volume in percent. Objectives of this research are to determine the difference in reticulocyte and hematocrit results using K?EDTA venous blood and 3.2% Sodium Citrate. Examination using manual method (blood smear) on reticulocyte parameters and semi automatic hematology analyzer for hematocrit. The research subjects were 20 students of Universitas Maarif Hasyim Latif Sidoarjo. The results of the Paired T-test statistic for reticulocytes showed that the p value = 0.163 (?? 0.05) there was no difference in the results of K?EDTA blood and 3.2% Sodium Citrate blood with Wesgard QC there were 55% in the Wesgard range and 45% out of range Westgard QC. While the results of the hematocrit with the Wilcoxon statistical test showed a p value = 0.006 (?? 0.05), namely there was a difference in the hematocrit value of K?EDTA blood and moderate sodium citrate with Wesgard QC, the majority of NaCitrate blood HCT values were decreased, namely there were 18 respondents 90% below the standard K?EDTA value.
