Abstract

Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of parameters to monitor children’s physical growth. It is  calculated of the body weight and height. Children aged 6 years is in active phase and more energy needed. Milk has rich of nutrients which affect the BMI  in children aged 6 years old. Objective: this studi aimed to obtain the description of BMI in children 6 years old who consume formula milk. Method: The study used descriptive cross-sectional design. Targeted populations were the students of Muhammadiyah Elementary School 01 in Medan Area Sub-district,  Medan City, Sumatera Utara. Children who have congenital and chronic diseases, including infectious disease from the last 3 months were excluded. Results: There were 90 children participated in the study. The students who consumed formula milk most frequently was underweight (41; 45,6%), normoweight (33; 36,7%), and overweight (16; 17,8%). Conclusion: Body Mass Index in 90 children aged 6 years who consume formula milk was described.Keywords: Body Mass Index, Formula Milk, 6-Year-Old Child.

Abstract

Background: Consumption of high-fat diet (HFD) is increasing blood total cholesterol, LpPLA2 enzyme and MDA level which is a cause of atherosclerosis that should be controlled by antioxidants. Paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella v.) extract has an antioxidant compounds. This research proves the effect of Volvariella v. extract on blood total cholesterol (TC), LpPLA2 enzyme and MDA level, and proves correlation between TC with LpPLA2 enzyme and MDA level.Methods: A randomized post test only control group design to twenty four of 8-10 weeks old  male Rattus novergicus Wistar strain with 180-200 gram were divided into four group; K1 with standard diet, K2 with HFD, each X1 and X2 with HFD+Volvariella v. extract 500 mg/kg.bwt/day and 1000 mg/kg.bwt/day. All treatments for 56 days. TC levels assesed by enzymatic colorimetric test method, LpPLA2 enzyme with ELISA method and MDA with TBARs method. Data were analyzed by one way Anova, LSD post hoc and Pearson’s correlation.Results: TC mean of K1 (91,28±1,55 mg/dL), K2 (181,96±4,19 mg/dL), X1 (122,94±2,75 mg/dL) and X2 (105,86±2,25 mg/dL); p=0,001. Enzyme LpPLA2 mean of K1 (2,65±3,19 ng/mL), K2 (1,29±1,35 ng/mL), X1 (3,92±2,18 ng/mL),  X2 (2,05±3,29 ng/mL); p=0,385 and blood MDA mean of K1 (1,17±0,12 nmol/mL), K2 (5,75±0,21 nmol/mL), X1 (2,96±0,91 nmol/mL) and X2 (1,77±0,92 nmol/mL); p=0,001. Correlation between TC and LpPLA2 enzyme was shown by X1 group (p=0,042; r = - 0,827).Conclusion:Volvariella v. extract decreased blood total cholesterol and MDA level significantly, did not significant to LpPLA2 enzyme. There wss a correlation between TC and LpPLA2 enzyme but was not to TC and blood MDA.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah merupakan suatu persyarikatan yang sangat memperhatikan kesejahteraan umat dan mengembangkan amal usaha di banyak bidang diantaranya bidang kesehatan dan pendidikan. Muhammadiyah memiliki amal usaha di bidang pendidikan  hampir di seluruh wilayah Indonesia tersebar secara merata. Di kota Medan terdapat  lebih kurang 50 sekolah dasar Muhammadiyah dan memiliki hampir 15.000  murid.  Sekolah sebagai tempat belajar, harus memiliki lingkungan bersih dan sehat, yang mendukung berlangsungnya proses belajar dan mengajar yang baik, serta  diharapkan mampu membentuk siswa yang memiliki derajat kesehatan yang lebih baik untuk mendukung pencapaian tujuan pendidikan.  Untuk  mencapai tujuan tersebut maka setiap sekolah dianjurkan mempunyai Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah (UKS). Masalah yang dihadapi selama ini adalah sebagian besar sekolah Muhammadiyah belum mempunyai UKS, padahal UKS sangat diperlukan untuk terciptanya sekolah sehat.   Sehingga dilaksanakanlah kegiatan PKPM yang bertujuan untuk membina UKS di sekolah dasar-sekolah dasar Muhammadiyah di Kota Medan.  Kegiatan dilaksanakan di gedung pertemuan Madrasah Tsanawiyah Aisyiah pada pertengahan April dan dihadiri oleh 10 kepala sekolah dasar Muhammadiyah atau perwakilannya.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection is an acute inflammation of the upper and lower respiratory tract caused by infection withmicroorganisms or bacteria, viruses, or rickets. The incidence of infection is influenced by the immune system. Micronutrient(vitamin and mineral) deficiency conditions can affect a person's immune system so that they are at risk of infectiousdiseases including Acute Respiratory Infection. One of the roles of vitamins and minerals is as an antioxidant, antibacterial,antiviral and anti-inflammatory which can strengthen the immune system. To determine the corelation between micronutrientsupplement consumption and the incidence of acute respiratory infections in medical students of Muhammadiyah UniversityNorth Sumatra. This study used an analytic observational study design with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 209people filled out a questionnaire through google format which then tested the correlation between variables with the chisquaretest. It was found that the results of the correlation test p = 0.107 on the consumption of micronutrient supplementsagainst the incidence of Acute Respiratory Infection. There was no significant relationship between the consumption ofmicronutrient supplements and the incidence of Acute Respiratory Infection.

Abstract

Menopause causes a significant decrease in estrogen levels that affect various conditions in the body, one of which ischanges in bone that occur due to low estrogen. Osteoporosis is a progressive chronic bone disorder caused by reducedbone mass and changes in structure in bone microarchitecture tissue that increases the risk of fracture and can reducequality of life, especially in menopausal women. Soy milk contains phytoestrogens so that can relieve menopausalsymptoms. To prove whether there is an influence of soy milk on bone mineral dencity in menopausal women who are at riskof osteoporosis. Experimental study with pre and post test group design. Sampling technique with simple randomization.The sample of 30 postmenopausal women who were given soy milk as much as 250 ml / day for 3 months. Before and afterthe intervention Bone Mineral Dencity (BMD) examination was performed with osteopeni and osteoporosis results.The mean value of BMD before intervention was -2.5833 The mean value of BMD after the intervention was-2.2267 Thedifference in BMD before and after the intervention with p = 0.001. There is an effect of 250 ml / day soy milk on BMD inmenopausal women.

Abstract

In postmenopausal women, estrogen secretion decreased due to ovarian atrophy. Increased levels of total cholesterol occurafter menopause or after ovarectomy. The use of soybean phytoestrogens shows the effect of reducing lipid levels inmenopausal women. This study aimed to see the effect of giving soy milk to total cholesterol levels in postmenopausalwomen in mothers of Aisyiyah group. This experimental study used the design of one group pretest and posttest. Subjectswere 30 menopausal women aged 43-76 years who were given 250 mL soy milk. And data was processed using Wilcoxontest. The mean total cholesterol level before treatment was 241,03 mg/dL and after treatment 224.70 mg/dL, with adifference in the average reduction in total cholesterol levels of 16,33 mg/dL with p 0,002 (p<0,005). There is an effect ofgiving soy milk to total cholesterol levels in menopausal women.

Abstract

The estrogen hormone in women has a function to improve blood cholesterol profiles, by increasing levels of High DensityLipoprotein (HDL) and decreasing Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). But when women experience menopause the productionof the hormone estrogen will decrease, so women are more susceptible to experiencing dyslipidemia. Phytoestrogens insoybeans have activities such as estrogen which are useful for reducing LDL and increasing HDL. To determine the effect ofgiving soybean milk (Glicine Max L. Merr) on HDL and LDL levels in menopausal women (Study on Women Aisyiyah MelatiMelati Medan Study). The study was an experimental study with one group pretest posttest by giving soy milk for 3 months.The mean HDL levels before and after treatment were 56.90 mg / dl and 57.00 mg / dl with a p value 0.326 (p> 0.05). Themean LDL levels before and after treatment were 145.85 mg / dl and 133.47 mg / dl with a p value 0.0001 (p <0.05). Givingsoy milk has an effect on LDL levels and has no effect on HDL levels in menopausal women.

Abstract

Latar belakang : Penyakit ginjal kronik (PGK) merupakan gangguan fungsi renal yang progresif dan irreversibel dimana kemampuan tubuh gagal untuk mempertahankan metabolisme dan keseimbangan cairan dan elektrolit. Penyakit ginjal kronik merupakan penyakit multifaktorial. Tujuan : Untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab penyakit ginjal kronik pada usia di bawah 45 tahun di unit Hemodialisis Rumah Sakit Ginjal Rasyida Medan tahun 2015. Metode : Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan metode total sampling sehingga didapatkan sampel berjumlah 212 pasien, dimana usia di atas 45 tahun berjumlah 144 pasien dan usia di bawah 45 tahun berjumlah 68 pasien. Hasil Penelitian : Pasien dengan penyebab PGK karena Hipertensi sebanyak 48 pasien (70,6%), diabetes melitus sebanyak 8 pasien (11,8%), glomerulonefritis kronis sebanyak 9 pasien (13,2%), polycystic kidney disease sebanyak 1 pasien (1,5%), PGOI sebanyak 1 pasien (1,5%), dan sindroma lupus eritematosus sebanyak 1 pasien (1,5%). Kesimpulan : Hipertensi merupakan penyebab PGK di bawah 45 tahun terbanyak di Unit Hemodialisis Rumah Sakit Ginjal Rasyida Medan tahun 2015.

Abstract

Abstrak: Obesitas lebih rentan memiliki kadar kolesterol yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan berat badannya normal. Peningkatan kadar LDL kolesterol dipengaruhi oleh banyak hal. Faktor asupan merupakan faktor yang dapat disikapi. Jeruk merupakan buah yang mengandung folate, vitamin C, flavon dan hesperidin yang dapat menurunkan kadar LDL kolesterol.Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian air perasan jeruk manis (Citrus sinensis) terhadap kadar LDL pada mahasiswa obes. Jenis penelitian ini bersifat true eksperimental pretest-posttest with control group design pada subjek manusia obes dengan  jumlah sampel 26 orang, dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu  kelompok kontrol dan kelompok perlakuan . Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik total sampling dan teknik pengelompokan sampel menggunakan random sampling. Nilai rata-rata kadar LDL-kolesterol sebelum perlakuan pada kelompok kontrol adalah 127.15±53.84 mg/dL dan sesudah 140.92±49.59mg/dL, kadar LDL-kolesterol kelompok perlakuan sebelum perlakuan 122.07±21.49mg/dL dan sesudah 134.23±19.66mg/dL. Nilai rata-rata berat badansebelum perlakuan 77.84 ± 11.75 kg dan sesudah perlakuan kelompok kontrol 78.38±11.46 dan kelompok perlakuansebelum perlakuan75.30 ± 11.91 kg dan sesudah perlakuan 75.07±12.49 kg. Simpulan, terdapat peningkatan kadarLDL-kolesterol pada kelompok perlakuan tapi berat badannya menurun. namun secara statistik tidak bermakna secara signifikanKata kunci : jeruk manis (citrus sinensis), LDL-kolesterol, obesitas Sweet Orange Juice (Citrus sinensis) IncreasesLDL Cholesterol Serum Level. (Study on obese students of Faculty of Medicine, UMSU)  Abstract: Obesity often have higher cholesterol levels than normal weight. Increased levels of LDL cholesterol is influenced by many things. Intake is a factor that can be addressed. Orange is a fruit that contains folate, vitamin C, flavones, and hesperidin which can lower LDL cholesterol levels. Aim of this research is to know the effect of orange juice (Citrus sinensis) to LDL level in obese students. This research  is true experimental pretest-posttest with control group design in obest subject with total sample that is 26 people, divided into 2 groups, that is control group and treatment group. Sampling technique used  total sampling technique and grouping technique used random sampling. The mean value of LDL-cholesterol level before treatment in control group was 127.15±53.84 mg/dL and after was 140.92±49.59mg/dL, LDL-cholesterol group treatment group before treatment was 122.07±21.49mg/dL and after was 134.23±19.66mg/dL. The mean value of body weight before treatment and after treatment in control group was 77.84±11.75kgand 78.38±11.46 kg. The mean value of body weight before treatment and after treatment in treatment group was75.30±11.91kg  and 75.07±12.49 kg. Conclusion, there is an increase in serum levels of LDL-cholesterol in treatment group, but The bady weight  decreased.Keywords: orange juice (Citrus sinensis), LDL-cholesterol, obesity

Abstract

Nutritional status is a body condition as a result of food consumption and infection status. Nutritional status can be a risk factor of diarrhea. The aim is to determine the correlation of nutritional status with the occurrence of acute diarrhea in children beetween one to three years old at Puskesmas Amplas in 2015. This research is an analytic method of cross sectional and analysis of Chi Square. Using a secondary data from medical records of Puskesmas Amplas. All of bad-nourished respondence often suffering an acute diarrhea within one month. A well-nourished respondence who often suffer from acute diarrhea is 16,7%, and all of obese respondence often suffering an acute diarrhea. There is a correlation between the nutritional status with the occurrence of acute diarrhea with p value is 0,000 (p<0,05) in this research
