Abstract

AbstractIt is very important to know the characteristics of candle nut before designing nut-deshelling machine. This study was conducted to investigate physical and mechanical characteristics of candle nut before analyzing the impact force on the de-shelling process. The result showed that average diameter of candle nut at intercept A (length), B (width) and C (thickness) were 32.55 mm, 29.05 mm and 23.23 mm respectively. The average value of sphericity and roundness of candle nut were 0.86 and 0.65 respectively. At high moisturecontent candle nut had a greater value of compressive strength and resulted a sticky kernel in the shell. Candle nut had 4.96% db moisture content after dried at sun drying for 20 hours. The value of compressive strength from the maximum load during a compression test (rupture force) of candle nut at this moisture content were 1,208 N, 1,198 N and 1,950 N for intercept A, B and C respectively.AbstrakSangat penting untuk mengetahui karakteristik kemiri sebelum mendesain mesin pemecah biji kemiri. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui karakteristik fisik dan mekanik biji sebelum menganalisis gaya tumbukan pada proses pemecahan biji kemiri. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata diameter biji kemiri pada intersep A (panjang), B (lebar) dan C (tebal) adalah 32.55 mm, 29.05 mm dan 23.23 mm. Nilai rata-rata kebulatan dan kebundaran biji kemiri adalah 0.86 dan 0.65. Pada tingkat kadar air yang tinggi, kemiri memiliki nilai kekuatan tekan yang lebih besar dan akan menghasilkan inti lengket pada tempurung bagian dalam. Kadar air kemiri mencapai 4.96% bk setelah dijemur di bawah sinar matahariselama 20 jam. Nilai kekuatan maksimum pada saat pemberian uji tekan (rupture force) pada tingkat kadar air tersebut pada intersep A adalah adalah 1,208 N, intersep B 1,198 N dan intersep C 1,950 N.

Abstract

Abstrak: Dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan hidupnya, manusia akan selalu menghasilkan produk akhir yang tidak digunakan kembali baik karena tidak lagi berguna maupun tidak memiliki manfaat bagi manusia tersebut. Produk-produk akhir tersebut sering sekali dikenal dengan sampah ataupun limbah. Kegiatan ini bertujuan memberikan pengetahuan dasar tentang pentingnya menjaga lingkungan terutama memilah sampah organik dan sampah anorganik. membuat mol dari bahan-bahan sederhana mampu, membuat pupuk kompos dari sampah organik dan menggunakan komposter. Penelitian dilaksanakan di LAPAS Kelas IIA Pancur Batu. Peserta pengabdian adalah 20 orang ibu-ibu darma wanita LAPAS Kelas IIA pancur Batu. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan penyuluhan. Hasil pengabdian adalah ibu-ibu darma wanita dapat membedakan sampah organik dan anorganik serta membuat mol dari bahan-bahan sederhana, membuat pupuk kompos dari sampah organik dan menggunakan komposter Abstract: To fulfill the needs of daily life, humans will always produce final products that are not reused either because they are no longer useful or have no benefits for humans. These final products are often known as waste or waste. This activity aims to provide basic knowledge about the importance of protecting the environment, especially sorting organic waste and inorganic waste, making moles from simple materials, making compost from organic waste and using a composter. The research was carried out at the Class IIA Pancur Batu prison. The service participants were 20 women from the Class IIA Pancur Batu LAPAS. The method of implementation is done by elucidation. The result of the service is that Dharma Wanita women can distinguish between organic and inorganic waste and make moles from simple ingredients, make compost from organic waste and use a composter.

Abstract

Abstrak: Remaja memerlukan motivasi dan wawasan untuk bisa memanfaatkan sampah sehingga kelestarian lingkungan dapat dicapai. Sampah organik dapat dikomposkan dengan menggunakan alat pengomposan yang disebut komposter. Dengan penggunaan komposter proses penguraian bahan organik dapat berlangsung lebih optimal. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan dan kesadaran generasi muda (remaja) dalam hal pengendalian lingkungan hidup khususnya sampah yang tidak dikelola dengan baik. Remaja sebagai generasi muda dapat menggunakan komposter dan mengaplikasikan dalam pengolahan sampah di lingkungan sekitarnya. Selain itu juga untuk melaksanakan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam bentuk Sosialisasi dan Praktik, diikuti oleh 20 anak remaja Desa Bukit, serta para dosen Universitas Quality dan Universitas Quality Berastagi. Hasil PKM sebanyak 95% remaja telah memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk membedakan sampah organik dan anorganik, membuat mol dari bahan-bahan sederhana, membuat pupuk kompos dari sampah organik dan menggunakan komposter.Abstract: Teenagers need motivation and insight to be able to utilize waste so that environmental sustainability can be achieved. Organic waste can be composted by using a composting device called a composter. With the use of a composter, the decomposition process of organic matter can take place more optimally. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge, skills and awareness of the younger generation (teenagers) in terms of controlling the environment, especially waste that is not managed properly. Teenagers as the younger generation can use a composter and apply it in waste processing in the surrounding environment. In addition, to carry out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This community service activity was carried out in the form of Socialization and Practice, attended by 20 teenagers from Bukit Village, as well as lecturers from Quality University and Quality Berastagi University. The results of the PKM activities are that 95% teenagers have the knowledge and skills to distinguish organic and inorganic waste, make moles from simple ingredients, make compost from organic waste and use a composter.

Abstract

This objective of this study was design and manufacture a simple drum compost reactor (composter) to be able to process organic waste into compost so as to reduce the problem of organic waste towards generation-z let’s go organic in the orphanage sinar indah cahaya bersama. The method used was engineering or modification, design research activities that are not routine so that contributions are generated in the form of processes and products. The result of the composter was vertical type aerobic composter drum without mixing system with parts up cover, composting room, filter, filter support posts, leachate chamber (liquid organic fertilizer), pipes and air vents covered with gauze, solid compost discharge holes and faucet dispensing liquid organic fertilizer.

Abstract

 Diperlukan pengetahuan dasar tentang besarnya energi dan gaya yang dibutuhkan pada proses pemecahan cangkang biji kemiri untuk mendapatkan daging biji kemiri bulat utuh. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode menjatuhkan biji dari berbagai level ketinggian kemiri dan metode menjatuhkan beban mengenai biji kemiri. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa dengan metode menjatuhkan biji kemiri dari berbagai level ketinggian diperoleh bahwa ketinggian optimum untuk memecahkan biji kemiri pada posisi intersep C dengan kadar air 6%  adalah dari ketinggian 9 m dengan gaya sebesar 1,52 N. Sementara dengan metode menjatuhkan beban 209,7 gr mengenai biji kemiri diperoleh gaya 6,52 N dan menjatuhkan beban 182,64 gr diperoleh gaya 6,26 N. Untuk keseluruhan metode dibutuhkan energi sebesar 1 joule untuk memecahkan cangkang biji kemiri.   Basic knowledge about amount of energy and breaking force of the candlenut deshelling process is needed to get a whole round kernel. The study was conducted by dropping the candlenut from various level of height and dropping the load on the candlenut. The result showed that the method of droping candlenut from various levels of height was obtained that the optimum height to break the candlenut in the intercept C position with a water content of 6% was 9 m with a force of 1,52 N. While by dropping a load of 209,7 gr obtained a force of 6,52 N and dropping a load of 182,64 gr obtained a force of 6,26 N. For the whole method an energy of 1 joule is needed to break the shell of the candlenut.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan di Dusun Namo Keling Desa Suka Dame, Kecamatan Kutalimbaru dan Desa Tambunen, Kecamatan Sibolangit, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Jumlah sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 25 petani. Variabel bebas dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari penyediaan bibit (X1), penyiapan lahan (X2), penanaman (X3), irigasi (X4), penjarangan anakan (X5), pemupukan (X6), sanitasi lahan (X7), pemotongan jantung (X8) dan pengendalian hama dan penyakit (X9), sedangkan variabel terikat adalah produksi pisang barangan Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan penyediaan bibit (2,39), penjarangan anakan (-2,44), pemupukan (2,37), sanitasi lahan (2,40) dan pengendalian hama (2,35) berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi pisang barangan, sedangkan penyiapan lahan, penanaman, irigasi, pemotongan jantung pisang berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap produksi pisang barangan. Hasil produk pisang barangan teknik modern 12,21 ton/ha dan teknik tradisional 9,64 ton/ha.

Abstract

Advanced knowledge of candlenut deshelling machine is needed to obtain optimal whole round kernel. The objective of this study was to modify the rotor bar on a candlenut deshelling machine with a ripple mill system. The method was engineering or modification, were made in the form of processes and products. The number of grooves on the rotor bar was modified became 2, 4 and 6. Rotation speed of the rotor bar were varied to 15 rpm, 18.75 and 25 rpm. The number of grooves gave a very significant effect on the capacity of the machine, whole round kernel, broken kernel, sticky kernel and unbroken seeds. The rotational speed of the rotor bar gave a very significant effect on the capacity of the machine, broken kernel, and sticky kernel, and gave an insignificant effect on whole round kernel and broken kernel. Interaction between the number of grooves and the rotational speed of the rotor bar gave a very significant effect on the capacity of the machine and the sticky kernel and insignificant effect on the whole round kernel, crushed kernel and unbroken seeds.

Abstract

The effect of Mt. Sinabung eruption has profoundly affected the quality of fruit and vegetable production, in this context is fruit and vegetables. Fruit and vegetable, carrot, strawberry and pakcoy is kind of fruit and vegetable that is consumed by the community especially the communities surrounding both the mountain ranges and the general medan area. The fruit and vegetable are kinds of climateric and the lifespan must be kept. During the transportation of field to market, there wa both mechanical and physical damage.The damage will obviously harm farmers, merchants, and other marketers. So that hydrocooling is applied as a post harvest treatment. Hydrocooling is done right after the harvest, This prosess extracts heat from fruit and vegetables so that respiration and transpiration can continue for a long time.The lack of farmer understanding for post harvest handling is a major problem. Therefore, farmers in aberastagi will be given education and training about post harvest handling (hydrocooling) so they could understand and self applying that will keep their produce fresh. As for the output of this activity is a simple hydrocooling device designed as a visual aid in training. This hydrocooling equipment can also be a reference to training science for schoolchildren in particular agriculture schools and could be a referenceto researchers and developing them.

Abstract

The object of this research was to determine the pandemic Covid-19 impact on the income of fruits and vegetables traders in the Traditional Market “Pajak Pagi Pasar V Padang Bulan Medan. The research was conducted using qualitative descriptive analysis methods by describing and interpreting data as well as the conditions or phenomena. From the research that has been carried out, it had been obtained that the responden continue their business in the market during the pandemic, even the number of buyers and incomehad decrease more than 50%. Factor that made traders continue doing business was the awareness and struggle to meet the needs of daily life. Meanwhile the inhibitng factors are the reduction in the number of buyers, income that had been decreased about more than 50% and worries about being exposed to the virus.

Abstract

Denai Lama Village had unique potential to be developed into a large agro-tourism area in Deli Serdang Regency. The purpose of the study was to find out what people's views of lowland rice agrotourism in Paloh Naga are on the socio-economic status of the people of Denai Lama village and what are the opinions of managers of lowland rice agrotourism in Paloh Naga on the socio-economic impact in the village of Denai Lama. Respondents on this study were Denai Lama village officials, managers of lowland rice agrotourism in Paloh Naga, farmers, workers in agro-tourism, and traders in the traditional market of Paloh Naga. The results of this study indicated that the existence of lowland rice agro-tourism in Paloh Naga as an agro-tourism area had brought changes to the people of Denai Lama village. The positive impacts included the expansion of employment opportunities, increased income, pricing, village income, noise, increased intensity of mutual cooperation and agro-tourism waste. The negative impact was the occurrence of social jealousy in society.
