Abstract

Abstract

Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic that forces restrictions on movement between people is thought to impact the utilization of yards in urban areas positively. However, there is not much information about yard management practices, including plant species managed by urban communities. In the framework of biodiversity conservation, this research aims to explore the variety of plant species planted in the yards, the area of managed yards, and the planting motivation of the urban community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was conducted from May to August 2020 using an online questionnaire (Google Form), and direct interviews with target respondents consisted of communities spread across two major cities in Lampung Province, i.e. Metro City and Bandar Lampung City. The research findings showed that only 8% of respondents planted various useful plant species during the COVID-19 pandemic, while the rest of them planted long before the pandemic occurred. The plant groups that the respondents commonly owned were ornamental plants (70%), while 30% of the existing species were medicinal plants and spices. The motivations included enjoying the yield (herbs and medicine), filling the spare time, enjoy gardening and love plants, making the house beautiful and cool, and even planting it for sale. Of the five planting goals or motivations of the urban community, the motivation to enjoy the yield was the highest, followed by the desire to have a beautiful yard and enjoy gardening. This condition is believed to continue to exist even though modernization is expanding. Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic, ethnobotany, ornamental plants, residential landscape, useful plants

Abstract

Human and wildlife conflicts have a negative impact, especially langurs whose habitat in a small island. The study objective was to identify presence and the distribution of langurs in a small island. Data were collected using observation methods, then analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results show that there were 23 langur groups that distributed in 23 locations, with the number of smallest groups consisting of 6 individuals and the number of largest groups consisting of 12 individuals. Langur was found in the morning at 05.38 WIB-10.57 WIB and in the afternoon at 17.08 WIB-18.10 WIB. Most of these animals are found in agroforestry areas and a small part in mangrove forests. The highest activity intensity is found in the morning with the form of eating, locomotion (moving), grooming and resting activities. The existence of langurs in a small island is a good thing and must be preserved because langurs belong to protected animals. One way to conserve these animals is to create alternative conservation-based langur tourism.

Abstract

Kebun Lebah Simpur (KLS) is one of the locations of Trigona spp bee cultivation which is quite large because it has become a reference for honey bee managers both from domestic and abroad. KLS is located in Lampung Province and has the potential to be developed into an ecotourism destination but the manager has been focusing on the cultivation and marketing of bee products. This study aims to analyze visitor perceptions regarding the management of KLS honey bees to support ecotourism activities. Data collection in this study uses the interview method with a questionnaire tool to visitors based on purposive sampling and in-depth interviews with managers to complete information about the management of KLS. The questionnaire contained questions about visitors' perceptions about KLS management based on the 4A ecotourism factor (attraction, accessibility, amenities and ancillary) with reference to Likert scale assessment. The results were then analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of the analysis show that the aspect of attraction is classified as good, while the visitor's perception of the accessibility, amenities and ancillary factors is still relatively neutral so development still needs to be done.

Abstract

Human-elephant conflict occurs due to the release of elephants from forest areas and into human settlements so that there is no balance between human and elephant welfare. This research was conducted to determine how people's perceptions of human-elephant conflict that occurred around the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park forest area during October 2020-November 2020. Structured interviews were collected for data collection, 45 respondents were selected by purposive sampling based on the slovin formula. Data analysis was performed using a Likert scale. The results showed that most of the community agreed with the indicator if human-elephant conflict was detrimental to humans (4.75) and reduced the community's economy (4.6). The conflict between humans and elephants creates negative perceptions of the community towards elephants, which are animals that eat and destroy plants. However, the community still has an awareness of the preservation of elephants so that they have a positive perception of elephants in the form of animals that need to be protected and can be used as tourist objects. The community will carry out a blockade and blockade if the elephants will enter the residential area to suppress the amount of conflict that occurs..
