Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe student errors in working on a two-variable system of linear equations in class VIII SMP students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research with a description test instrument consisting of 3 questions using the level of thinking ability Bloom's Taxonomy, namely, C3 represents middle-level ability and C4 and C5 represents higher-order thinking ability. The subjects in this study were 17 students of class VIII of one of the public junior high schools in West Bandung Regency. This study uses Polya's analytical theory to interpret the results of the data presented in the form of a percentage based on the stages of difficulty in solving story problems. The results of this study show that the interpretation of the difficulties experienced by students in getting interpretations at the Bloom Taxonomy level C3 is good, C4 and C5 is lacking, with errors that are influenced by student errors, namely: conceptual errors, errors in translating story questions, incomplete mastery of material, mistakes in steps. solutions and errors in calculations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the difficulties of class VIII junior high school students in working on statistical problems through online learning. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method, by giving a test in the form of a description consisting of 3 questions using Bloom's taxonomic thinking ability level. The subjects in this research were students in class VIII at SMPN 6 Cimahi, totaling 17 students. The data collection technique used in this study is in the form of test results with Bloom's taxonomic ability level. low-level abilities represent C3, C4 and C5 represent moderate-level thinking skills and C6 represent high-level thinking. The results of the interpretation of the difficulties that students face in solving statistical problems are C3 got a good interpretation, C4 and C5 with less interpretation. Difficulties that affect students in solving problems on statistical material are lack of understanding of concepts, completion steps, incomplete mastery of the material, and errors in calculations. In addition, during the current pandemic, there are other non-technical obstacles such as the difficulty of accessing the internet for students living in remote areas.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low understanding of students' mathematical concepts due to the lack of active participation of students during the learning process. The purpose of this classroom action research is to examine the increase in the ability of students to understand concepts in mathematics learning about Relationships and Functions using the Scientific approach. This research was conducted on 20 students of class VIII SMP Advent Cimindi. This classroom action research was designed in 2 cycles consisting of 4 meetings. The procedure in each cycle includes the stages: planning the action, implementing the action, observing and reflecting. The effectiveness of the action in each cycle is measured from the results of observations of students and teachers during learning and from student learning evaluations. The results showed that the application of a scientific approach could improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. This is indicated by an increase in student learning completeness from the first cycle to the second cycle. In the first cycle, the level of student learning completeness reached 55% and in the second cycle increased to 90%. So it can be concluded that learning with a scientific approach can improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menelaah peningkatan  pemahaman konsep dan kompetensi strategis matematis antara siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking, dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan kuasi eksperimen. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 12 Bandung. Sampel dalam penelitian ini dipilih sebanyak 2 kelas dari kelas VIII. Kelas eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking, dan kelas kontrol memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Instrumen penelitian meliputi tes pemahaman konsep dan kompetensi strategis matematis, angket, pedoman observasi dan pedoman wawancara. Pengolahan data peningkatan pemahaman konsep dan kompetensi strategis matematis menggunakan uji-t dan uji Mann-Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Terdapat perbedaan peningkatan pemahaman konsep dan kompetensi strategis matematis antara siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking, dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa; (2) Siswa menunjukkan sikap yang positif terhadap pembelajaran dengan pendekatan metaphorical thinking. Kata Kunci: pendekatan metaphorical thinking, pemahaman konsep matematis, kompetensi strategis matematis. This research aim to describe and to analyze the enhancement of mathematical conceptual understanding and strategic competence between students in metaphorical thinking approach and conventional learning. This kind of research is a quasi experiment. The populations of this research are all of the students of VIII grade in SMP Negeri 12 Bandung. The samples of this research are by choosing 2 classes of VIII grade. The experiment class obtains the metaphorical thinking approach, and the control class obtains the conventional learning. The research of data is obtained by giving a mathematical conceptual understanding and strategic competence test, questionnaire, the observation directive, and the interview directive. The enhancement of mathematical conceptual understanding and strategic competence is processed by the t-test and Mann-Whitney test. The result of this research showed that (1) There is enhancement difference of mathematical conceptual understanding and strategic competence between students in metaphorical thinking approach and conventional learning; (2) Students showed positive attitude towards learning by metaphorical thinking approach. Key words: metaphorical thinking approach, mathematical conceptual Understanding, mathematical strategic competence.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah pencapaian kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan Model-Eliciting Activities dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan pembelajaran biasa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode eksperimen, dengan desain kelompok kontrol pretes-postes. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP di Kota Bandung, sedangkan sampel penelitiannya  adalah sebanyak dua kelas dari kelas VII yang dipilih secara acak dari seluruh kelas VII yang ada. Kemudian kedua kelas tersebut dipilih menjadi kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen memperoleh pendekatan Model-Eliciting Activities dan kelas kontrol memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Instrumen   yang   digunakan   dalam   penelitian   ini  berupa  soal tes kemampuan komunikasi matematik. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis secara kuantitatif dengan menggunakan uji statistik (uji-t). Kesimpulan yang diperoleh yaitu kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Model-Eliciting Activities lebih baik daripada yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Matematik, Pendekatan Model-Eliciting Activities  ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the achievements students’ mathematical communication ability between those who acquire learning through with Model-Eliciting Activities learning approach and conventional learning. The method was used in this study is the experimental method, with pretest-posttest control group design. The population was the entire students of SMP in Bandung, while the sample is two classes of grade VII selected randomly from all the existing class of grade VII. Then these two classes were randomly assigned into experimental class and control class. Experimental class with Model-Eliciting Activities learning approach and control class gets conventional learning. Research instruments include tests of mathematical communication ability. The data were analyzed using t-test and the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that Students’ achievement of mathematical communication ability of mathematical learning through with Model-Eliciting Activities learning approach is better than through conventional learning. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menelaah kemampuan mathematical problem posing siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan strategi Formulate Share Listen Create dibandingkan dengan yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP Negeri di Kota Bandung, sedangkan sampelnya adalah SMP Negeri 41 Bandung dan dipilih dua kelas secara acak dari seluruh kelas VIII yang ada. Kemudian dari kedua kelas tersebut ditetapkan secara acak yang menjadi kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan strategi Formulate Share Listen Create, dan kelas kontrol memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Instrumen penelitian meliputi tes kemampuan mathematical problem posing,  lembar observasi selama pembelajaran, dan angket skala sikap siswa. Pengolahan data untuk uji perbedaan dua rata-rata menggunakan uji-t’ dan uji Mann-Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan mathematical problem posing siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan strategi Formulate Share Listen Create lebih baik daripada yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Kemudian sikap siswa menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap matematika, kegiatan pembelajaran dengan strategi Formulate Share Listen Create, dan terhadap soal tes kemampuan mathematical problem posing siswa.

Abstract

This research is the classroon action research. The purpose of this study is to examine the improvement of critical thinking skills mathematically of students class XI-4 SMK Pasundan 1 Banjaran on matrix material through problem solving approach. The problem formulated in thid research whether through problem solving approach, student’s mathematical thinking ability can be improved?. The instrument used in this study is the test of learning outcomes as a test of student’s mathematical critical thinking skills about  matrix material, for preliminary (before action) tests, cycles I and II (after giving the action); and observation sheets fot teachers and students for the conditions of action implementation. The procedure of this study consists of: 1) planning, 2) implemetation of the action, 3) observation and evaluation, and 4) reflection. Based on the results of analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the critical thinking skills mathematically of students class XI-4 SMK Pasundan 1 Banjaran on matrix material can be improved through problem solving approach

Abstract

This study aims to examine the improvement of students’ mathematical problem posing ability and mathematical disposition through the strategy of Formulate-Share-Listen-Create (FSLC) on probability concept. The method used in this research is the experimental method, with the design of pretest-posttest control group. The population is all students of the vocational high school in Cimahi, while the sample was selected two classes from one of the vocational high school selected at random. The instrument of a test in the form of description is used to measure students’ mathematical problem posing ability, while the non-test instrument is questionnaire of mathematical disposition scale. The results showed (1) The mathematical problems posing of the students who obtained FSLC learning strategy is better than that of those who obtained conventional one; (2) The improvement of mathematical problems posing of the students who obtained FSLC learning strategy is better than that of those who obtained conventional one; (3) The mathematical disposition of students who obtained  FSLC learning strategy is better than that of those who obtained conventional learning.

Abstract

This research aims to improve student learning outcomes on mathematics learning by using a contextual approach. This research is a Class Action Research (CAR) conducted at one of the vocational schools (SMK) in X-class areas of focus on Automation of Governance and Office 3. The research instruments used in this study are (1) tests consisting of pre-test and post-test of the concept of Sigma notation and infinite series; and (2) the use of an observation sheet for teachers and students as a condition of measuring action execution. The procedure of the study consists of (1) planning, (2) The implementation of Action, (3) observation, (4) evaluation, and (5) reflection. The test results showed that there was an increase in pre-test and post-test results of 19.33%. Obviously, this shows that students ' learning outcomes on math learning are increasing after learning using a contextual approach.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menelaah peningkatan kemampuan siswa SMA dalam memecahkan masalah matematis pada materi pokok program linear dengan jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas XI SMA Leppesa 2 Cililin dengan jumlah 23 orang pada tahun pelajaran 2019/2020. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa serta tes tulis yaitu pretes dan postest. Prosedur penelitian ini terdiri dari: 1) perencanaan, 2) pelaksanaan tindakan, 3) observasi dan evaluasi, dan 4) refleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam memecahkan masalah matematis khususnya pada materi program linear dapat ditingkatkan melalui pendekatan kontekstual yang dikolaborasikan dengan media ICT yaitu aplikasi  geogebra.
