Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the cooperative principle in conversation verses of Surah Al-Kahf’s Translation composed by Marmaduke Pickthall. This research is qualitative research, within using document analysis as the approach. The research finding showed that four maxims were used. They are maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. The most frequent data is maxim of manner, occurred in 12 utterances of conversation verses. Whilst, the least data is maxim of quantity, observed once, that is in 1 utterance of conversation verses only. The utterances of conversation verses could be explained related to maxims meaning or perspective. and the phrase expressions found based on maxim contain meanings which are interrelated with the meaning of each maxim itself. The cooperative principle contributes to maxims in conversational verses of Surah Al-Kahf’s Translation which is created by Marmaduke Pickthall.

Abstract

People in Indonesia often use two languages interchangeably or by mixing two language conversations in daily life. The phenomenon of mixing language is often called code mixing. Code mixing also used on Quipper video, the speaker submits learning material using code mixing to make it easier to understand. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of code mixing by Hoffman's theory namely intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and involving a change of pronunciation, and the factors that influence code mixing by Holmes's theory namely the participants, social context, the topic, and the function. This study used qualitative content analysis as an approach. The data source will take from Quipper video Indonesia Youtube channel. The results of this study showed that the teacher used all the types of code mixing by Hoffman namely intra-sentential code mixing 87%, intra-lexical code mixing 11%, and involving a change of pronunciation 2%. While for the factors that influence code mixing, the researcher found three factors that used by the teacher namely the participants 30%, the topic 45%, and the function 25%.

Abstract

Language has an important role for every member of the speech community. The connection between language and society is recognized as the main interest of sociolinguistics. Nowadays, sociolinguistic has involved many significant research topics. One of them is the relationship between gender and language. Studies about gender differences have been conducted for many years, which also deals with the use of a language as a foreign language. For instance, studying English as a foreign language (EFL) among the nonnative speakers and its gender-sensitive investigation. The current article provides insights on gender differences among senior high school students with a focus on their writing ability. The purposes of this article were to find the linguistic feature that male and female students tend to use and to find out the gender differences reflected on the students writing ability. The article used a qualitative design with document analysis as the approach. The subject of this article was one class of X MIPA 2 at MAN 6 Jombang. The source of the data was students’ writings, while the data were all linguistics components of the students’ works. The data contain some types of linguistic features based on Mulac’s theory. This article found four linguistic features used by the students. It can be concluded that males often used locative feature and females often used a reference to quantity feature and “I” reference feature.

Abstract

This study deals with the utterance of English teachers of SMP A. Wahid Hasyim Tebuireng. It is aimed to know the type of speech function used by English teacher in the classroom, and to find out how speech functions are applied by English teacher in the classroom. The researcher applies qualitative design and content analysis design as the approach based on Ary et al (2010). The subject of this research was English teacher in SMP A. Wahid Hasyim Tebuireng. The source of the data is subject in where the data obtained, while the data is the utterances used by English teacher. The researcher used observation and audiovisual material of collecting data. The data of transcription are classified into six basic types of speech function. There are expressive, directive, referential, metalinguistic, poetic and phatic. The researcher observed an English teacher. From the teacher who observed, the researcher found different total utterances from each meeting. The total utterance is 41 utterances which classified into five types of speech function. How speech functions are applied by English teacher in the classroom is when the teacher interaction with her students.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to describe the many types of lexical ambiguity and how they are used in student English textbooks. Ullman Stephen proposed the linguistic ambiguity theory. The essay combined qualitative research with a content analysis technique. The words with lexical ambiguity are the subjects of this study. The data is made up of words, and the source is an English textbook. Reading, comprehending, and coding the text book that contains lexical ambiguity is the procedure for gathering data. The data analysis technique is then organized, familiarized, and interpreted. The findings of the study revealed that the text book contained two types of lexical ambiguity, Polisemy and Homonymy. Lexical Ambiguity can be assumed to exist in everyword with several meanings. Keywords: semantic; lexical ambiguity; textbook

Abstract

Cooking skills training is carried out in order to empower the community amid the weakening economy due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia which has not subsided until now, it is hoped that this training will be able to create an independent and empowered community so that it can be a step in tackling the problems of poverty that occur. This training is carried out by means of demonstration (live practice) which is intended so that participants can directly ask questions and discuss related to the material presented. The food product processing skills taught in this training are the type of food, namely Pumpkin Stick. Participants of the cooking skills training are women members of the Jatibanjar Village PKK with an average age of 30-50 years, totaling 35 people and it will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 starting at 09.00 - finished, at the Jatibanjar Balaidesa residence. The results obtained from this cooking training are the increased skills of PKK women in Jati Banjar village to process simple foods in increasing the economy in utilizing pumpkin as food that has a selling value.

Abstract

Pelatihan ini diselenggarakan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat dalam rangka peningkatan skill guru terhadap pemanfaatan teknologi dan peningkatan mutu pembelajaran bagi para guru di Yayasan Miftahul Ulum Balongsari, kecamatan Megaluh, Kabupaten Jombang. Dalam pelatihan ini para guru dibimbing untuk memanfaatkan aplikasi Canva Premium untuk membuat media pembelajaran yang menarik. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pelatihan ini meliputi pemberian materi, memberikan pendampingan dan melakukan praktek secara langsung. Kegiatan pelatihan ini berlangsung selama 3 tahap dalam 3 hari pelaksanaan. Pada tahap pertama para peserta pelatihan diberikan materi dan dikenalkan terkait aplikasi Canva Premium serta pendampingan untuk mendaftarkan akun pada aplikasi tersebut. Pada tahap kedua para peserta pelatihan dibimbing untuk membuat draft dan membuat desain media belajar Komik. Pada tahap ketiga sekaligus tahap terakhir para peserta pelatihan dipandu untuk merealisasikan media komik pembelajaran di kelas dan mempublikasikannya. Hasil kegiatan pelatihan ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) para peserta pelatihan mampu mengaplikasikan aplikasi Canva Premium, (2) para peserta mampu menciptakan media belajar yang dinamai “Komik Pembelajaran Berbasis Teknologi” lewat bantuan aplikasi Canva Premium.
