Abstract

The lack of studies on epistemological beliefs in Indonesia is the background for this research, with the availability of the Indonesian version of the questionnaire of epistemological beliefs, it is hoped that it can help practitioners who want to study epistemological beliefs. The purpose of this study was to validate the Indonesian version of the epistemological belief questionnaire which was adopted from the epistemological belief questionnaire developed by Conley et al. (2004). A total of 124 prospective teachers as voluntary respondents in this study, consisting of 20 biology prospective teachers form The Mandalika University of Education, 49 prospective teachers for science education from IAIN Salatiga, 25 biology prospective teachers from The Madiun University of Education, and 30 biology prospective teachers from The Muhammadiyah University of Malang. The data obtained were then analyzed using the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) technique using SPSS version 22 for windows, while confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed using SPSS Amos version 24 for windows. Based on the results of the EFA analysis, the KMO value = 0.755, it was stated that the data met the criteria for factor analysis. Furthermore, from the results of the CFA, of the 17 items from the EFA analysis, 15 items were obtained that support a fit model, with a P-value = 0.081, CFI = 0.960, TLI = 0.950, NFI = 0.819, and RMSEA = 0.050, and it was concluded that 15 items are declared valid and reliable.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student completeness through inquiry learning models. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR), consisting of stages which include: 1) planning; 2) implementation; 3) actions; 4) observation; and 5) reflection. Data collection techniques carried out by observation and tests. Data collection techniques using quantitative descriptive. The results of the study in the first cycle showed an increase in completeness of the initial conditions of students that is 72%, an increase of 20% from the previous, or there were 18 students who completed and the remaining 7 students were incomplete. Increased completeness in the first cycle has not yet reached the classical completeness that is ≥85%, so it needs to be continued to the second cycle. Actions in the second cycle are carried out based on the results of reflection in the previous cycle. After an improvement in cycle II, there was an increase in student completeness as many as 22 students who entered the complete category, or about 88% and the remaining 12% were incomplete. Achievement of completeness in the first cycle was 72%, and in the second cycle was 88%, resulting in an increase of 12%. Based on the achievements in the second cycle, it can be concluded that inquiry learning can improve student completeness.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to translate, validate the reflective thinking questionnaire, and to explain the reflective thinking profile of UIN Mataram biology prospective teachers. A total 243 of UIN Mataram biology prospective teacher as voluntary respondents. The data analysis process was carried out using the JASP for windows analysis package. Structural equation model testing based on P-value, CFI, and RMSEA. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis, from 16 items were analyzed, only 11 items supported a fit model, with P-value= 0.225, CFI= 0.986, and RMSEA= 0.026. The 11 items reflect four categories of RT (understanding, reflection, habitual action, and critical reflection), show high internal consistency, and show good construct validity. The translation of the RT questionnaire was declared valid and could be used to measure RT.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe student responses toward online learning. The respondents in this study were students of the first semester of the Biology Education Department in academic year 2019/2020, totaling 33 people. The sample in this study used a convenience sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively using Microsoft Excel. Research data shows that only 6 percent of students feel happy with online learning, because respondents think that they are more flexible about the time and place of learning. Meanwhile, 91 percent of students stated that they were not happy due to many factors such as being difficult to meet face-to-face with friends and lecturers, requiring a lot of money to buy internet quota and an unstable internet network. Referring to these results, it is very necessary to conduct an evaluation by lecturers and relevant policy makers to support the achievement of maximum learning objectives.

Abstract

This study is a descriptive study that aims to explain the type of reasoning of biology prospective teachers on controversial issues of the theory of evolution. As much 26 prospective biology teachers at the Mandalika University of Education as participants. All participants are students who regularly program evolution courses in even semesters (2020/2021). A total of 3 open-ended question based on socioscientific issues (SSI) were used to obtain information about the type of reasoning of biology prospective teachers. The data analysis process was carried out descriptively, and based on the results of the study, that the type of reasoning of prospective biology teacher students was dominated by the type of reasoning based on religious beliefs and intuitive reasoning. These results indicate that the student biology prospective teachers not only conflict between religious beliefs and the theory of evolution, but also do not understand the concepts on the theory of evolution. Referring to the results of this study, further research is recommended to examine the acceptance or understanding, and beliefs of teachers, both in middle and high schools on the theory of evolution.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the addition of bran and onion extract to the quantity of merang mushroom production. This research was carried out at the mushroom house merang Dusun Repok Tunjang Taman Indah Village, Pringgarata District, Lombok center NTB. This research is a descriptive experiment. The study was conducted with treatment and control design. The treatment medium was given fine bran and onion extract while the control added coarse bran rice milling waste. The data obtained are described in the form of graphs and photos. The researchers' findings show that the quality of merang mushroom production in media needs to be 36.03% higher when compared to control media. This is supported by the growth of mycelium, a faster fine head in the treatment medium. The application of bran and onion extract to the growing medium of merang mushrooms has a positive impact on the productivity and quality of merang mushrooms.
