Abstract

The telecommunications industry is constantly evolving and the demanding for a guarantee of applications services with better Quality of Service (QoS) continues to increase. This paper discusses the performance comparison of the QoS Method offered by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The IETF introduces the QoS Differentiated Service (DiffServ) and Integrated Service (IntServ) Methods to ensure QoS. Both methods are integrated with Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology to address the problem of traffic density and poor bandwidth allocation on the network. MPLS as a forwarding data technology used as a backbone which can improve QoS by labeling the IP address of the router. The comparison of MPLS-DiffServ and MPLS-IntServ method is done by measuring QoS parameter in the form of delay. The measured application is a Video Streaming with bitrate of 309 Kbps in 2 Mbps and 5 Mbps bandwidth variations. Bandwidth setting is performed to see the reliability of the MPLS-DiffServ and MPLS-IntServ network in conditions without traffic and with traffic load. Simulation results from GNS3 showed that MPLS-IntServ is a service with smaller delay than MPLS-DiffServ on conditions without traffic while on the network with the addition of traffic load, MPLS-DiffServ has a smaller delay than MPLS-IntServ.

Abstract

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a wireless local area network that uses radio frequencies as its transmission medium. In this study, we design a wifi network in the Sriwijaya State Polytechnic Lecturers Housing, whose wifi beam is from the Sriwijaya State Polytechnic campus, so that the lecturer housing can access wifi without the need to come to campus. As wifi communication receiver, the role of the antenna is needed in a long-distance wireless communication system, the antenna used is a yagi antenna that works at a frequency of 2400 MHz. Yagi antennas were chosen because of their directional nature or their directional beam pattern. In designing yagi antennas for the reflector, driven, director, and balun sizes, the yagi calculator software is assisted and simulated, and tested using MMANA-GAL to produce more accurate antenna parameters. This yagi antenna will then be connected to an access point that is set up as a client to receive signals from the transmitter and router as a routing process so that users in lecturer Housing can access the wifi. Based on the results of the MMANA-GAL yagi antenna with a frequency of 2400 MHz, the Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) is 1.16 and the Gain is 14.59 dB.
