Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the English language skills of fourth semester students majoring in economic education for the 2021/2022 academic year at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The problem raised in this study is whether the use of the supplemental teaching method can improve English language skills and student motivation. The method in this study used a classroom action research design which was carried out in three cycles. The results of the study can be concluded as follows: first, the increase can be seen from the average score of 58.93 in the first cycle, to 67.6 in the second cycle, and increased to 86.70 in the third cycle. The increase in the average value that occurred was 19.2%. Second, increasing students' ability in English is also followed by changes in student learning behaviour in a positive direction. Students become happier, more active, and give a positive response to learning English.

Abstract

One of the most used E-Learning platforms is Google Classroom. Google develops Google Classroom for academic purposes that support an online learning platform. This research was conducted to investigate students’ perception of using google classroom for EFL learning in STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used a questionnaire as a research instrument to collect the data. The researcher conducted the reliability and validity test before using this questionnaire. The students answered the questionnaire through the online method. The questionnaire was responded to by 30 undergraduate students in STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung who learned English courses using Google Classroom during the covid-19 pandemic. The questionnaire was analyzed used by the researchers using SPSS version 25. This study showed that Google Classroom could be used in e-learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Google Classroom is suitable for conducting learning activities, especially for teaching EFL learners. Google Classroom can improve students’ communication and enrich learning activities' content and material. Google Classroom can fit with the necessity of EFL students in STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. Therefore, the students feel that Google Classroom can make their job easier as students, improve the student's self-learning, and enhance the communication between the students and the teachers.

Abstract

Many students in Senior High School cannot master reading ability it might be caused by the students’ inability of using dictionary, inability in comprehending the text and unfamiliarity of words. In overcoming this problem, the researcher tried to used of think predict read and conect strategy. In reading ability this strategy can help the students in comprehending the text easily. The objective of the research was to know the influence of of think predict read and conect strategy towards students’ reading ability. In this research the writer used experimental method. The population of this research was 281 students. The sample was taken by using Cluster Random Sampling technique. In data collecting technique the writer used test, the test was multiple choice, consisted of 40 items. Based on the result of the data analysis and computation which used the formula of ttest, the result of analysis the data is significant, which is ttest > ttab : 4.03 > 1.67. From the result of analysis data, the writer could to give some conclusions as 1).The average score of the students’ reading ability who were taught by think, predict, read, and connect strategy was higher than who were taught with conventional strategy. It was seen from average score of test on experimental class is higher than the average score of control class X1 = 76.2 > X2 = 67.78. 2).There is a significant influence of giving translation assignment towards students’ English reading ability. It was seen from the result of ttest > ttab : 4.03 > 1.67.

Abstract

This research was aimed to improve students’ writing skill through mind mapping at the seventh grade of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung. The subject of this research consisted of thirty which consisted of 11 males and 19 females. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. Kemmis and Taggart stated about the model of action research it consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps; planning, action, observing, and reflecting. The writer did pre-cycle before going to cycle 1, the pre-cycle was conducted to know the students’ writing skill and the student difficulties in writing. In this research, the writer collaborated with the English teacher at the seventh (VII A) grade of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung to carry out the data of the students. At this research the writer was focused to improve the students’ learning activities and the students’ writing skill. The students’ improvement in learning activities it could be seen from the average score of students’ learning activities of cycle 1 were 7.16 with the criteria quite active, while in the second cycle that 7.87 was active. So, during the cycle 1 and the cycle 2 there were improvement of students’ learning activity, which got 0.71 point. Meanwhile in the students’ writing ability, the improvement could be seen from the average score of pre-cycle was 64.03 there were 17 students that passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion. Then the average score of first cycle was 69.03, there were 20 students or 66.66% who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion and the average score of second cycle was 78.36 there were 25 students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion or 83.33%. Based on the result of analyzing the data it could be concluded that the Classroom Action Research through mind mapping can improve students’ learning activities and the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine and describe the correlation of vocabulary mastery and effective sentence mastery with the exposition writing ability in class VIII SMP Nusantara 2018/2019 academic year. The population and sample in this study were all Class VIII SMP Nusantara students. The quantitative research method determines the magnitude of the relationship between variables. There is still much inappropriate use of vocabulary, and the students' mastery of effective sentences is still lacking. The findings show: 1) vocabulary mastery has a significant relationship with the ability to write exposition with a correlation coefficient of 0.630, 2) effective sentence mastery has a significant relationship with the ability to write exposition with a correlation coefficient of 0.693, and 3) vocabulary mastery and Effective sentence mastery has a significant relationship together with the ability to write exposition with a correlation coefficient of 0.733.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve the students' speaking skills through Story Telling. This research aimed to identify whether implementing Story Telling can improve students' speaking skills and learning activities focused on descriptive text. The researchers used classroom action research. The research implementation was in 2 cycles in one class with 20 students. For the data collecting technique, the researchers used observation and tests. In analyzing the data, the researchers used descriptive analysis. The findings of this research showed that after teaching reading through Story Telling. The researchers found that Story Telling successfully improves students' speaking skills and learning activities. It can be seen from the average score of students' speaking skills. It was increased from cycle I to cycle II. The researchers found that the average score of students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criteria in cycle I was 45%, while in cycle II obtained 85%. The mean score of cycle I was 55.8, and cycle II was 71.3. The students' learning activity was also increased from the first cycle, 6.17, categorized as less active, while in the second cycle, 7.92, classified as active. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of Story Telling can improve the student's speaking skills and the student learning activity in the tenth grade of SMP Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2018/2019.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the religious values ​​contained in the novel "99 Lights in the Sky Europe" by Hanum Salsabiela rais and Rangga Almahendra. The researchers cite data in the form of words, sentences, paragraphs, and dialogues in the novel, which contains various religious values ​​between humans and their God, religious values ​​between humans and other humans, religious values ​​between humans and themselves, and the relationship between religion and science. The method used in this study uses a qualitative approach with the type of library research, namely by analyzing the data in the form of paragraph sentences or dialogues containing religious values. The researchers hope this novel is helpful for all of us and can be used as a source of inspiration for the nation's young generation to reach a goal without forgetting religious values.

Abstract

This research aims to improve listening skills and learning motivation by using audio-visual media in seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Mesuji. Classroom action research is a research in which the researcher collaborates with several parties, both principals, classroom teachers, and researchers simultaneously, with two cycles, each cycle having three meetings. The method used in this research is classroom action research (CAR). This study used the subject of class VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Mesuji. The population of this study amounted to 56 students. The entire population was sampled, so the sample was 56 students. Methods of data collection using checklist observations, interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques. The results showed that the use of audio-visual media was effective in improving the ability to listen to fantasy stories for seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Mesuji. This can be seen from the results of the study which showed that the students' listening ability during the pre-cycle only obtained an average score of 37.32 and this was included in the poor category. When the action was taken in the first cycle, the students' listening ability increased to 49.28 and was included in the sufficient category. Furthermore, in the second (second) cycle, the score reached 64.82 (Good). Likewise, in increasing learning motivation, the use of audio-visual methods also increases learning motivation. In the pre-cycle, the score of 48.35 was included in the sufficient category; in the first cycle the score is 54.78 which is included in the sufficient category, while in the second cycle the score is 68.21 which is included in the good category.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve the students’ writing skill of narrative text by using Story Mapping Technique. The researcher used Classroom Action Research as the design of collecting data. The subject of the research was held in one class with 34 students’. It consisted of 2 cycle, in collecting data the researcher used observation sheet and writing test. The research finding of the learning activities that were improvement from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The writer had the mean score in cycle 1 was 6.28, in cycle 2 obtained the mean score was 7.74. there were increased by 1.46. The result of writing test in cycle 1 that had the mean score was 57.11 but in cycle 2 the mean score was obtained 79.56, there were increased by 23.45. There were improvement of writing test from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The writer found the result of students’ completeness in cycle 1 was 41.18% and of the cycle 2 was 79,41% which active categorized. Therefore it can be concluded that the implementation of story mapping technique was successful to improve the students’ learning activities and students’ writing skill of narrative text at the class eighth of MTS. Raudhatul Mu’minin Bandar Lampung in Academic Year of 2021/2022.
