Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the students’ needs in Learning English for Agriculture Study Program at Sintuwu Maroso. The data collected by questionnaire. The data is analyzed by percentage formula. The finding of the research obtain that the students need in learning English for agriculture is to support their study.  The most important skill is reading and speaking.  The students need to learn English without working in small group because often have difficulty working in a small group during the class and the students need to understanding the lecture speaking because have trouble in understanding lecturers words. The students need to say something in English but always worry about saying something in case make a mistake in English. Students’ needs in improving their communication effectively with peers. It means that the students need in learning English for agriculture is to mastery in speaking

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out English teacher speech style toward at SMA Negeri 1 Poso. The subjects of this research are two English teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Poso. Design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The instrument of this research are observation, recorder, questionnaires and documentation. Data were gained by the result of the recorder is transcript and questionnaires. The finding obtained that the dominant speech style that the teachers used are casual speech style, informal speech style, formal speech style, consultative speech style and serious speech style. The learning process is going well and the students give a good response in learning. Based on the result of the research it can be concluded that the dominant speech style used by the English teachers are casual speech style, informal speech style, formal speech style, consultative speech style andserious speech style.Keywords: speech style, teaching English

Abstract

The aims of this research to find the first students of SMP Sintuwu Maroso Poso ability in using “to be”.The problem formulation is: “What is the first year student’s at SMP Sintuwu Maroso  Poso ability in using “tobe”. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative. Source of this research Students’ first semester at SMP Sintuwu Maroso Poso consist of 24 students. The result of this research finding shows: The ability of the SMP Sintuwu Maroso Poso using “to be” in English sentences was be categorized “poor”. It can be seen that the ability of the first year students of SMP Sintuwu Maroso Poso using to be in English sentences was very less

Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the students’ needs of English Study Program in learning English for Tourism. The type of this study was qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of the study were fourth semester students in academic year 2015/2016 consisted of 44 students. Data were gathered through questionnaire and analyzed descriptively, then interpreted by the researcher. Thefindings of the study revealed that the students felt necessary to learn EFT for their education and career in the future. The students learned EFT to know the description of tourism language and to know everything related to English. Since the students lacked in speaking and writing, their priority in this course had to be on speaking and writing skills that could be done in various activities, for instance, through discussion method. At the end of learning process, the students responded that homework was very important for them. It is expected that the result of the study can be used as a reference to prepare and develop relevant materials for students’ academic and professional needs, especially English for Tourism learning need.Keywords: English for Tourism, students’ needs.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the use of comic strip in teaching English vocabulary to seventh graders of SMPN 3 Poso. This research is qualitative in nature, where the data are collected through observation. The findings show that the teaching and learning process was conducted in two meetings and test was administered after the meetings, and all students show satisfied achievement when comic strip is used in teaching and learning activities (27% are excellent, 63,6% students are good, and 9,0% students are good).Keywords: vocabulary acquisition, comic strips

Abstract

The objective of the research was to describe the grammatical errors were found in writing English Text Made by Tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir Selatan. The method of the research used a descriptive method. The findings of the research were grammatical errors on writing of SMA Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir Selatan, The kinds of grammatical errors are error in using verb form, word order, subject/verb agreement, pronoun, spelling, capitalization, preposition, article, and adverb. The highest error  is error of sentence fragment tenses (23,83%)

Abstract

English vocabulary is one of the basic types of knowledge that must be masteredby EFL in learning English. With the rapid changing and development of globalization, vocabulary learning nowadays can be done through various media, one of them is through online games. Online games are the games that are very popular among students todays due to this kind of circumstances and one of these online games is Mobile Legends. The purpose of this study is to find out the impacts of an online game which is Mobile Legends in English Vocabulary learning in SMA GKST 2 Tentena. In this study, the subjects are the 12 students from 4 classes. The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative and usesinstruments in the form of questionnaires, tests, and interviews. Based on the data obtained, this study found that online game which is Mobile Legends have an impact in students to achieve good results in learning English vocabulary.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out the level of students’ metacognitive reading strategy awareness in English language study Program of Sintuwu Maroso Poso. The type of the research is quantitative research. The role of the researcher was the observer. The location of the research in Teacher and Education Faculty of Sintuwu Maroso University on Jalan P. Timor No. 1 Poso. The Source of the research all of the fifth and seventh semester students at English Department of Sintuwu Maroso University consist of 30 students. The technique of data collection used is questionnaire. The questioner adopted from Mochtari and Reicahrd (2002). The questionnaire sent to the students in Google form. The finding of the research obtained that the level of students’ metacognitive reading strategy awareness is high with the mean score of 3,7. The score means that the students usually uses the metacognitive strategy when reading the English text. The Metacognitive strategy Awareness consist of three strategy namely Global strategy, supporting strategy and problem solving strategy

Abstract

The purpose in this study is to find out the perceptions of students’ and lecturers’ at the English Education Study Program at Sintuwu Maroso University in using Google Translate. The method of the research is quantitative, this research using questionnaire as the instrument in collecting data. The number of respondents is 55 respondents consisting of 42 students and 13 lectures. The questionnaire is adopted from Khusnul Khotimah 2021. The calculation results is obtained that students have dominantly positive perceptions on Google Translate, and lectures dominantly have negative perceptions on Google Translate.
