Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the effect of double entry diaries strategy toward students’ reading comprehension. The sample of this research was Class XI IPA 3 consisted of 28 students. This research was pre-experimental research design. Based on the result of the study, it indicates that the use of double entry diaries strategy can affect students’ achievement in reading comprehension.Keywords: double entry diaries, strategy, reading comprehension.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to find out how many change of vowel sounds that often used by Pamonanese students and analyze how do Pamonanese students pronouncing English words. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative method in explain the result of the research. Data are gained from words, phrases, and sentences in English. The data are analyzed by using Fromkin theory of the relation between accent and phonology, and Mesthrie theory of seldom very localised accents, but rather modified regional accents. The result of the research shows that there are four change of vowel sounds that often used by Pamonanese students.They are vowel sound [ ə ] became [ e ], [ ɪ ] and [ i ] became [ i: ], [ ɔ ] and [ ə ]  became [ o ], and [ ə ] became [ a ]. Pamonanese students pronouncing English words in different ways or by their own way, such as changes vowel sounds when they are pronouncing an English word, and then produces the different sound of word. For example in the words again [əgɛn], someday [səmde], because [bɪkɔz] and animal [ænəməl]

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out level of questions used by the teachers in teaching English at SMP Negeri Poso Kota Utara and to find out of students’ responses from the teacher’s questions. Researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research is obtained from observation at SMP5 Poso Kota Utara and SMP 1 Poso Kota Utara. The result of this research showsthat knowledge, comprehension and evaluation are the most frequently used levelof questions, while the students’ responses are correct, incomplete, and no response.Keywords: levels of question, Bloom’s taxonomy, EFL teachers, EFL students

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether crossword puzzle is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The sample of this research is the eight grade students of SMP GKST I Tentena particularly class VIIIC and VIII A. This research is quasi experimental design- the nonequivalent control group design, that involved two sample groups, they are experimental group and control group. The researcher uses clustering sampling. The researcher applies test instrument (Pre-test and Post-test) in collecting the data. The pre-test is administered to measure the students’ achievement in learning vocabulary before treatment, while the post-test is administered to measure the students’ achievement after treatment. Based on the result of the study, it is proved that the application of crossword puzzle is affective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. It is found that the tcounted (1.820) is higher that t-table (1.693). It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. In conclusion, the achievement of the eight grade students of SMP GKST I Tentena in mastering vocabulary can be improved significantly by using crossword puzzle.Keywords: Crossword Puzzle, Improve, Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

This research aims at finding the effect of anticipation guide strategy in teaching reading to the students of the English Education Study Program at Unsimar Poso.  This is quantitative research and the researcher uses a pre-experimental research design. The samples of this research are students who enrolled in Reading 1 class in 2018/2019.  In conducting the research, the researcher conducts the pre-test before the treatment and the post-test after the treatment. Based on the result of the research, it is shown that anticipation guide strategy can affect students’ of Reading Class comprehension at FKIP UnsimarPoso. It could be seen from the result of data analysis in which students’ mean score in the pre-test is increased from 55.6 to 89 on the post-test. The result of t-counted (17.6) is higher than the result of the t-table (1.713). Therefore, it can be said that the use of anticipation guide strategy can affect the students’ of Reading 1 class at FKIP UnsimarPoso

Abstract

The objective of this research are to find out the strategies used by the lecturer in teaching Speaking subject and to find out students’ responses towards the strategies that are used by the lecturer. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This research uses observation, interview, and questionnaire to collect the data. The subject  of this research are lecturer who teach Survival Speaking subject and 21 students in the second semester of  English Education Study Program in 2020/2021 academic year. The result of this research  obtains that there are three strategies that are used by the lecturer in teaching Survial Speaking subject, namely ; Brainstorming, Small-Group Discussion, and Demonstration. The students responses towards strategies are used by the lecturer can be seen from the result of the questionnaire, the students responses are ; students likes survival speaking subject, interest in the strategies used by the lecturer in speaking subject, can pay attention when the lecturer provide survival speaking subject, strategies used by the lecturer make students feel easy to speak English well, motivated to speak in front of the class because the strategies used by the lecturer, make students understand new words that are hear in the survival speaking subject, more understand the material given by the lecturer, also feel happy to give opinions and questions to lecturer during survival speaking subject, and like the strategies used by the lecturer when giving assignments and evaluation in the survival speaking subject.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the effect of a short animation movie in learning English to find out students’ achievement in writing at tenth TKJ grade in SMK GKST Poso. The Method of this research is a pre-experimental research, one group pretestposttest, which has done in 5 meetings. In first meeting the researcher give a pre-test to know students’ initial achievement in writing narrative text, entilted, “Malin Kundang”. In second until fourth meetings the researcher give a treatment in implementing the shortanimation movie learning media and give a post-test in the fifth meeting to find out student’ final achievement after giving a treatment. The result of this research shows that there is a significance effect towards students’ achievement in writing narrative text using a short animation movie as a learning media. It can be seen from, paired sample t-test, the sig. (2tailed)is 0,000. It means that,the sig. (2-tailed) < 0,05. The result of the research shows, a significant effect with the sig. (2-tailed) 0,000 < 0,05. The result of testing the hypothesis shows that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is a significant effect in using a short animation movie towards students achievement in writing narrative text.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the barriers experienced by English teacher in implementing 2013 curriculum revision edition in teaching English. This research uses a qualitative descriptive study. The researchers use observation, interview, and documentation in the form of syllabus, lesson plan, and pictures to collect the data. The research subject is English teacher and seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tojo Barat that consists of six study groups. The result of the research shows that English teacher experienced external barriers and internal barriers. The external barriers are obstacles that come from outside the English teacher, namely: (1) covid-19 pandemic (2) the barriers from the government, (3) the barriers from the schools, and (4) the barriers from students. Internal barriers are obstacles that come from within the English teacher itself, namely: (1) the barriers in making lesson plans, (2) the barriers in the learning process, and (3) the barriers in making evaluation.

Abstract

This research is carried out is to find out students’ perception of teacher’s method in teaching English at the second grade students of SMP N 1 Lore Selatan. The researcher uses descriptive quantitative research. The population of this research is the second grade students of SMP N 1 Lore Selatan, academic year of 2021/2022 that consists of 96 students. The sample of this research is 35 students who are selected by using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire is used to collect the data which is delivered by using Google Form media. The result of the research shows that the second grade students of SMP N 1 Lore Selatan academic year of 2021/2022 have good perception toward English teacher’s method in teaching English. It can be seen from students’ perception toward English teacher method in visual aspect is 74,04% and categorized good, students’ perception toward English teacher method in verbal aspect is 80,38% and categorized good, and students’ perception toward English teacher method in relation aspect is 79,43% and categorized good.
