Abstract

The Indonesian nation, which has undergone its independence for more than 70 years, experienced two major changes, namely in 1966 and 1998. 1966 gave birth to the New Order. The New Order period which lasted 32 years with a full orientation to pursue economic growth which was supported by security stability which killed democratic values. We have also gone through the reform era that was rolled out in 1998 which later gave birth to the state order as we feel today. During the 20 years or so of reformation, Indonesia's condition can be said to be more democratic even though it is still procedural which is marked by an election celebration party and post-conflict local election. However, economic orientation and development have almost no fundamental correction, no significant changes. The strategic economic policies taken by the government have not been in favor of the people. Potential economic resources are still held hostage by the interests of foreign countries. Both in the banking sector, insurance, capital markets, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), oil and gas mining and other economic sectors. The government only relies on the amount of economic growth, which does not contribute much to the real economy of the people. As a result, poverty and unemployment rates have not been significantly reduced. The quality of life of the people becomes low. In this paper, the author tries to study the economic growth which is always glorified by the ruling regime in the perspective of Islamic political economy. However, economic policies are inseparable from government political interference. Therefore, questions such as how is the political economy of Islam in view of economic growth amid the high poverty rate of the Indonesian people? Then what is the solution that Islamic political economy can provide in overcoming policies that are deemed not to benefit the people? From the discussion, the writer can provide some things that according to the authors are important to conclude. Islamic political economy is only one area of science that will be built based on the tauhid paradigm. Basically, all existing science needs to be built within the framework of the monotheistic paradigm. The emergence and development of Islamic civilization for more than a thousand years is always based on the Tawhid paradigm. At that time, all science was built on the basis of monotheism. The problem of economic development can be solved by tauhid paradigm. Keywords: Islamic Economic Politics, Maqashid al-Shari’ah Approach

Abstract

Science, including Islamic economics, is a systematic knowledge acquired in certain ways agreed upon by scientists. Certain ways to acquire such schematic knowledge are called methodologies. Science is obtained through investigation or investigation. But not every investigation can be called a legitimate and recognized way to gain the knowledge. Science has certain ways or processes called research. Thus, the methodology is in fact the ways or scientific research techniques. The technique here means ways of conducting an investigation and assessing the findings or evidences, ie judging whether the finds are true or false. After seeing how important the methodology is in building a discipline, especially the discipline of Islamic economics, this paper will try to answer the question: how is the methodology offered by Monzer Kahf to build Islamic economics? The research method used in this research concerns types, approaches, sources and data types, data collection techniques, data analysis techniques. The type of this research is library research, namely research conducted by taking and collecting data from the literature related to the issues discussed. Sources of research data obtained are from the existing literature, by collecting primary and secondary data. Primary data in this study refers to the books and other research journals by Monzer Kahf. The secondary data in this research is obtained from books, magazines, journals, articles, and so forth, written by other writer. Analytical technique used is descriptive-analytical analysis method. The results show that the task of describing the Islamic economic system consists of two parts. First, Islamic economists have to find the theory of the components of the economic system and its internal relations. Second, they are to investigate the economic validity and power of the system. Essentially, the approach used to find the Islamic economic system is similar to the approach used to find the general theories and rules of fiqh. Economics as one of the social sciences needs to develop a path to history to explore its experiences and determine the direction of long-term economic life. Islamic economists must revise conventional economic theory to recognize and separate biased postulates. In other words, refining theories is full of the dogmatic, doctrinal, and moral views of the experts and the environment. Keywords: Islamic Economics, Methodology, Monzer Kahf

Abstract

Many fundamentalist religious movements have economic agenda. The movements emerge to reconstruct the economic system in accordance with the provisions of their respective religions. Therefore, we often hear Christian economics, Buddhist Socialism, Hindu economics, or Islamic economics. The main agenda of economic fundamentalist movements look different from conventional economics (Capitalism and Socialism). Every economic agenda that they propose has different philosophical characteristics and heritage and unique discourse. In this paper, author tries to elaborate Timur Kuran’s ideas, a pioneer of the school of critical alternatives in the tradition of Islamic economic thought, on future of Islamic economics Islam which is considered a manifestation of the economic doctrine of the fundamentalist Islamic group. Why is the future of Islamic economics addressed pessimistic by Kuran and what offer is given by Kuran to give response to Islamism’s Islamic economics are some questions that will be answered in the following discussion. In this study, the writer also will respond Kuran’s predictions about the future of the Islamic economics. The analytical method used in this study is taxonomic analysis, which is not only a general analysis, but also a specific domain that is very useful to describe the phenomenon or problem that is to be the target of the research. In this analysis, the domains are selected to be studied in depth is the focus of study that needs to be tracked each other's internal structures in more detail and depth. Overall, this technique uses "approach of non-contrasts between elements". This technique begins by focusing on specific domains, then dividing the domain into sub- domains as well the more specific and detailed parts. The results of research shows that the economic reforms in the name of Islam today is a myth, and could not survive in the long term. Islam will lose power and sonorous sound of the economic policy. Islam will be abandoned, and humans will switch to the source of moral ideals and the other spiritual. Keywords: Radical Islamic Group, The future of Islamism’s, Islamic economic doctrine

Abstract

In recent years, we have witnessed a high interest in the study of methodology in the field of Islamic economics. Works in the form of books, journals, or articles on methodologies have developed rapidly over the past two decades. People’s interest binding up in Islamic economics in the field of methodology is caused by several factors, among which there are those who think that the economy is not going well. Poverty still exists. Unemployment is growing along with high inflation and hardly any reliable solution to the depression of the local economy, even the regional financial crisis. Another reason for the revival of interest in the field of economic methodology is that economists, in their efforts to instill a positivistic paradigm of natural science into economics, tend to break the science of philosophy that raises ethical and moral issues relating to human goals and behavior. This paper will attempt to answer the question: what is the Islamic economic methodology offered by Abdel-Rahman Yousri Ahmed and what should the Islamic economic exponents do in the formulation of Islamic economics theory? This type of research is qualitative with the approach of figure thinking. The data collection technique is done by reading the works of Abdel-Rahman Yousri Ahmed and some supporting writings of the research. The result of study shows that the commitment to make the theory of Islamic economics must be realized into the form of blend between Sharia rules and Islamic values into postulates or axioms. The resolving of various problems, the process of economic analysis, and the formulation of rules that explain Islamic economics, should be based on the postulates or the axioms. The empirical experience of Islamic economics is a mandatory requirement for formulating empirical theory. Islamic economics scientific theory consists of three main elements: definition or terminology, postulates (axioms or assumptions), and hypotheses. From an Islamic perspective, definitions and postulates which are composed and made in accordance with Islamic and Shari’a values, should be ensured to show the character of the Islamic hypothesis that culminates in the theoretical work. The historical experience of Islamic economics in the past will greatly help modern Islamic economics. The Islamic economics applicability depends heavily on using correct methodology in formulating theory. Keywords: Islamic Economics Methodology, Abdel-Rahman Yousri Ahmed

Abstract

Throughout my experience in tracking down and reading books on faith-based economics, in this case Islam, there are no books that specifically list the title of "Islamic economics". If there is, it is only initiated or introduced. Most books coming down to us still use the titles starting with the word, for example, system, concept, principle, or the doctrine of Islamic economics. Why do the authors of the book Islamic economics seem not dared to give his book title with label "science"? I presume that Islamic economics has not been considered as a science. In building a science, methodology is required. Islamic Economics also requires a well-established methodology to build the foundation of science. The study answers questions; how is methodology which is offered by Muhammad Akram Khan to build Islamic economics. The method used in this research is the study of literature with qualitative approach. The result of study concludes that Khan offers methodology of Islamic economics, if summarized, written as follows: First, Islamic economics uses a framework derived from the texts of divinity (revelation). Second, Islamic economics uses the inductive method, which gives witness to the truth or falsity assumptions and predictions about the two criteria of rationality and empirical evidence. Third, Islamic economy is built on ethical values such as justice, virtue, moderation, sacrifice, caring for others, in the analysis, as behavioral parameters. Fourth, Islamic economics is a normative discipline. Islamic Economics investigates ways and means to change the existing economy with Islamic economy. Fifth, Islamic economics ask different questions with conventional economics. Its attention is on welfare (falah) human and creating social and institutional conditions that maximize falah in society. Clearly, Islamic economics strongly supports research programs that help maximize falah. Furthermore, Khan elaborates several issues related to the methodology that often appears in the forum of Islamic economists. There are some problems that Khan proposes, they are the interaction with modern economics, the role of revelation, assuming ideal Islamic society, and the general theory of Islamic economics. Keywords:  Islamic Economics, Methodology, Muhammad Akram Khan

Abstract

Abstract: BMT Beringharjo Yogyakarta in its operations carried out a separation between the al mal and bait at-tamwil bait so that the financial statements of the two are separated from each other. This separation is intended to prevent the mixing of the two funds, considering that in the Bait at Tamwil is a community fund that is not intended to generate profits. While bait at tamwil has a clear orientation, namely to benefit from transactions for products issued by BMT. In this case, this research views BMT as a profit-oriented business institution, so the analyzed financial statements are bait-tamwil financial statements. The financial statements analyzed are related to the liquidity and profitability of BMT Beringharjo Yogyakarta. In facing business competition, every company or BMT needs to have good management skills to be able to continue to continue their business. One important thing that BMT needs to consider is the balance between liquidity and profitability. Therefore, author is interested in analyzing the development of the BMT Beringharjo financial performance. In this study, the discussion specializes in conditions of liquidity and profitability because these two factors are the main factors that financial analysts or customers want to know about. The purpose of this research is to explain how the development of Beringharjo BMT's liquidity and profitability over five years, from 2005 to 2009.This research is a field research. Data collection using interviews, observation and documentation or financial reports. Analysis of the data used is ratio analysis to determine liquidity and profitability conditions and trend analysis to determine the development of the two conditions for five years. The results showed that the liquidity condition of BMT Beringharjo Yogyakarta is not in a good condition because on average each year the figure was too small at 61.09% below 71%, it is reinforced by the trend line that continued to decline. The average profitability ratio per year of total assets is 9.69%. A figure of that size according to PINBUK is a figure that is too low but it is due to its profitability ratio which tends to fluctuate so that the difference in the ratio rate every year is so striking. In general, the condition of profitability is predicted with an upward trend line (positive trend). The condition of the ratio of earnings to total capital in BMT Beringharjo shows symptoms of improving from year to year. This can be seen on the trend graph that continues to rise, and the estimated value is positive. The average total earnings ratio of capital is 55.77% per year. A ratio of that size is an excellent figure for profit as indicated by a score of 4, which is at the level> 25%. Keywords: liquidity, rentability, BMT Beringharjo
