Abstract

Bearing capacity of pile foundation bearing capacity is influenced by several factors, such as the amount of applied loads and non-homogeneous soil characteristics. To determine the bearing capacity of single pile foundation the static method is used on the basis of CPT data and dynamic methods based on dynamic pile and PDA tests. Pile foundations of the Pelawa bridge used in this study are located in the District of Parigi - Moutong. The study of literatures and secondary data such as the data of driven pile equipment, driven piles , CPT, dynamic pile tests, and PDA tests are used for analyzing the pile bearing capacity . Meyerhof method, Aoki de Alencar, LCPC, Price and Waldre, and Schmertmann are used to determine the bearing capacity of pile based on sondir (CPT) data. The dynamic pile tests data are used to calculate the bearing capacity of the piles by using methods of Hiley, Olsen and Flaate , Enginering News Record (ENR) , Janbu Mansur and Hunter , and AASHTO . The results show that  the lowest dan the highest of the ultimate bearing capacities  for static methods (CPT data) are  114.096 tons (Aoki De Alencar) and 305.479 tons (Schmertmann) respectively. Kalendering method (dynamic pile data) show that the lowest value of 284.22 tons were obtained from equation given by Hiley and the highest 1450.26 tons were obtained from equation given by  Janbu.The range of 171.2 tons - 174.5 tons were given for PDA test data. The ratio between CPT to PDAs results that are closest to the value of 1 which is 0.938 is the value that obtained from Meyerhof’s equation, while the ratio between dynamic method (kalendering) to PDAs results that are closest to the value of 1 which is 1,660 is the value that obtained from Hiley equation Keywords: single pile bearing capacity, CPT, dynamic pile test, PDA test

Abstract

Hubungan dari perilaku fisik dan mekanis pada jenis tanah bercampuran butiran halus belumlah tepat  jika hanya mengindikasikan penggunaan nilai angka pori (e) saja, maka penggunaan angka pori interfine disarankan untuk kondisi pasir bercampur butiran halus dengan jumlah butiran halus di atas ambang batas kandungan butiran halus (FC > FCth). Untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan mekanik, letak nilai ambang batas kandungan butiran halus (FCth) serta hubungan antara angka pori interfine dan kuat geser terhadap  campuran pasir Siuri dan butiran halusnya, dilakukan pengujian di laboratorium dengan mencampur butiran  kasar dan butiran halus  pasir Siuri dengan jumlah butiran halus nonplastis yang bervariasi, mulai dari 0% sampai 100% terhadap berat campuran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai ambang batas kandungan butiran halus (FCth) berada di antara 30%-40% penambahan butiran halus. Untuk hubungan  sifat fisik dan mekanik dari campuran pasir dengan butiran halus ini,  nilai berat isi akan meningkat sedangkan nilai angka pori mengalami penurunan sampai pada ambang batas kandungan butiran halus (FCth), selanjutnya kondisi sebaliknya akan terjadi setelah melewati nilai (FCth) tersebut. Untuk hubungan angka pori interfine (ef) dengan Kuat geser (t)  menunjukkan bahwa dengan penambahan butiran halus nonplastis di atas ambang batas kandungan butiran halus (FCth ≥30%), akan menyebabkan penurunan nilai angka pori interfine (ef). Sedangkan untuk nilai tegangan gesernya juga mengalami penurunan seiring menurunnya nilai angka pori interfine (ef). Abstract

Physical and mechanical properties of uniform sand (Siuri sand) mixed with fine grains is not the same as pure uniform sand, and the void ratio (e) can not be considered as appropriate index to describe the microstructure changes due to the fine grains. Thus, the use of intergranular void ratio is recommended for the condition of fine content less than the threshold fine content (FC <FCth). In this article, the primary data were obtained by conducting laboratory tests, by testing the physical and mechanical properties of the mixtures. Tests were carried out on pure Siuri sand (0%), pure non-plastic fines (100%), and the mixtures with fine content variations of 10% - 90% (by weight of mixture), however, the discussion were focused on dominant coarse grain conditions which was pure Siuri sand (0%) and the mixtures with non-plastic fine composition varied as 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. The results show that the changes in content of non-plastic fines combined with Siuri sand showed characteristic changes in a similar pattern both in physical and mechanical properties. Fines addition to Siuri sand had increased the value of some parameter (gd, gdmax, gdmin, f, dan t) and had decrease some other parameter (e, emax, dan emin) up to the 30% fine content, then the opposite occured in 40% fine content. When fine content had exceed threshold fine content (FCth) which were between 30-40%, it showed a behavior transition, from behavior of higher contribution of sand in the mixture (dominance of sands) to higher contribution of fines (dominance of fines).   Keywords: void ratio, intergranular void ratio, shear strength, Siuri Sand

Abstract

The condition or shape of location of construction is often present in a non-flat terrain. Excavation and dumping of soil usually required in this condition that will result on formation of the slope. The slopes can be made steeper with the help of reinforcement such as by using geotextile, steel and other materials. For small or medium scale construction palm fiber sheet can be used as alternative material. Palm fibers are natural organic fibers that have beneficial properties such as resistant to the influence of solar heat and cold weather, resistant to weathering, and not easily rotten and durable so  it can be used as an option for use as a construction material.This study aims to study the potential use of palm fibers as an alternative material for reinforcement material, especially on the slopes. Palm fibers material used in this research are materials that form a natural fiber sheet. The slope model is formed in a test tub with a width of 30 cm and a height of 80 cm. Sand from Pondo River with 50% of relative density is used as slope forming material.The results showed that the reinforced slopes with fiber sheets with 20 cm vertical spacing and 100 cm length of reinforcement on the test model were able to carry a load of 40 kN at 25 mm (1 inch) settlement, and reach 60 kN at 37.5 mm ( 1 ½ inches) settlement

Abstract

In the recent last decade studies indicated that the void ratio only might not be good to characterize the sand with fines state variable and fine grains in fact were contributed to the intergrain contact. Contribution of fine content defined in the intergranular (es) and interfine (ef) void ratio studied by Thevanayagam (1998). Moreover, Thevanayagam  (2000) introduced equivalent intergranular void ratio (es)eq and equivalent interfine void ratio (ef)eq, as contact index which include the contribution of fine contents as an active intergrain contact (b). In this article, the void ratio given in the 6 sand-silt mixture from past researches recalculated to intergranular void ratio and equivalent intergranular void ratio for FC < FCth using estimated b value obtained from the line equation from chart given by Thevanayagam (2010). The new chart replotted  and compared to the one given in those articles. The results shows that for most sand-silt mixture using es and (es)eq rather than e as the indices to characterize the contribution of fine grains in a soil mix for FC< FCth indicated good results that shows in plotted data points of soil mixtures that located close to a single line compare to the one using void ratio (e) only. The line equation proposed by Thevanayagam (2010) can be used to estimate the b value to obtain the equivalent intergranular void ratio
