Abstract

The purpose of this study was determine the perception of Biology teachers and Public Senior High School students in Pekanbaru to the quality of Biology textbook based on Curriculum 2013for Senior High School class X published by Erlangga. This study was conducted from January to June 2014. Sample in this study were 6 Biology teachers who taught in class X and 274 Public Senior High School students class X majors MIA (Matematika dan Ilmu Alam) in Pekanbaru who became target the implementation of Curriculum 2013. Data collection instruments was questionnaires, which grouped into teacher questionnaire and student questionnaire. Teacher questionnaire consists of the closed-ended questionnaire was 50 statments and divided into 5 indicators, the indicators are feasibility content, material presentation, language, book graph, and compatibility with Curriculum 2013. The open-ended questionnaire was 5 questions. Student questionnaire consists of the closed-ended questionnaire was 26 statments divided into 4 indicators, the indicators are feasibility content, material presentation, language, and book graph. Data analyzed descriptively. Overall, the quality of Biology textbook based on Biology teachers perception showed in quite well criteria with average of 2,54 and based on students perception showed quite well criteria with average 2,43. This indicate the textbook have not been able to complete all criteria that has been established by BSNP (Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan). Keywords : Perception, Quality of Biology Textbook, Curriculum 2013

Abstract

Research has been conducted in order to determine the growth of the earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) with artificial food and utilization of research results to support the learning process on the concept of growth and development of invertebrates. This research was conducted at the Natural Laboratory of Education and Teacher Training University of Riau in April to June 2013. This study used a completely randomized design with 9 treatments and 3 replications. The material used is the earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) as much as 270 worm with averaged biomass and body length. Organic materials as artificial feed (P1) tofu, (P2) kakawatan grass, (P3) chicken manure, (P4) cow manure, (P5) tofu + chicken manure, (P6) + kakawatan grass + tofu, (P7) chicken manure and kakawatangrass (P8) + cow manure + tofu. Parameters measured were the length and biomass of earthworm for 60 days after planting (at the beginning and end of the research). Proponent parameters measured were pH of soil, temperature of soil and moisture. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) at the level of 5 %. The results showed increase length and biomass of earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) is highest at (P4)treatment (cow manure) which is 0.214 g/tail, long worms present in the (P2) treatment (kakawatan grass) which is 4.99 cm and the lowest on all parameters is the (P0) treatment (no treatment). The results of the research can be used to support the learning process in the form of Student Worksheet (LKS).Keywords : Lumbricus rubellus, Growth, Artificial Feeding, LKS

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning model to theStudents' Science Process Skills of The Second Year Students of SMAN Plus of RiauProvince in learning Biology. This study was conducted from April to June 2013using the quasi experiment method with design research by posttest only controlgroup design. Samples were students of class XI.IA.4 (control class) and XI.IA.3(experimental class) which were determined based on random sampling technique.Research variables consisted of independent variables, namely Problem BasedLearning model and the dependent variable which was the students' science processskills with indicators were observation, communication, application, inference, andprediction. Data collected by using the observation sheet. The results showed that theobservation indicator on the control class was 66.67%, while the experimental class at100%. Communication indicator in the control class was 56.89%, whereas theexperimental class was 90.74%. Application indicator on the control class was33.33%, while 93.06% in the experimental class. Inference indicators on control classwas 39.56%, whereas the experimental class was 84.72%. Prediction indicator on thecontrol class was 33.33%, while the experimental class got 100%. The average scoreof process skills in control class was 45.96% with moderate category, while in theexperimental class was 93.70% with a very high category. Inferential statisticalanalysis results obtained t.test = 42.61> t.tabel 2.01 (significant). The students' highestskill score of science process skills were at observation and prediction skills (100%),while the lowest one was the inference skills (84.72%).Keywords: Learning Biology, Model Problem Based Learning, Science Process SkillsStudents
