Abstract

This research is expected to find out how abundance and distribution of blood clams (Anadara Granosa) in coastal waters of Mekarbaru village, Kepulauan Meranti District. In good conditions or during the season in a particular month there is more capture compared to when it is not in season. Analyze using descriptive analysis research methods using survey methods. The materials used in this study were blood clam samples (A.granosa), and aquades for tool rinsing. The results of this study can be concluded that the average abundance of blood clams of A. granosa in the coastal waters of Mekarbaru Village, Kepulauan Meranti District is different. The highest average blood clam abundance was found at station III which was 21.86 Ind / m2 and the lowest was at station II which was 19.63 Ind/m2. The size distribution of blood clams A. granosa can be seen that dominating is the size of <25 mm (small), while the size of 25-30 mm (Medium) is only found at each station. The abundance of small blood clams A. granosa is influenced by the content of sediment organic matter and water quality in the coastal waters of Mekarbaru Village, Kepulauan Meranti Regency.

Abstract

This research was conducted on September 2019 in west Sumatera waters which was aimed to find out the level of aquatic productivity, to analyze the yellowfin tuna fishing ground and to find out the corelation between sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a with the total catch of yellowfin tuna. In conducting the research, survey and spatial analyze were used as the method. The highest total catch of yellowfin tuna was on October 2019 with the total 60.610 kg and the CPUE 166 kg/trip. On the other hand, the lowest total catch was on June with the total 18.080 kg and CPUE 92,7179 kg/trip. Based on the result of the CPUE, October is the best month for fishing. The correlation coefficient between SST and total catch in 2018 was -0.69 which mean there was a negative correlation. Meanwhile, the correlation chlorophyll-a with the total catch was 0.65 which mean the corelation between both variables were not good

Abstract

The waters of West Sumatera that face directly into Indian Ocean is strongly influenced by Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomenon which caused an anomaly of sea surface temperature (SST) and affect rainfall intensity in the West Sumatera Province. This research was aimed to know the effect of IOD on the distribution and anomaly of SST and rainfall intensity in West Sumatera. Data processing methods in this research is using statistical and descriptive. The data used in this research are NOAA OI-SST, Dipole Mode Index (DMI), and rainfall data from BKMG. The results showed that IOD positive occured in October 2018 and the IOD negative occured in July 2016. During the positive IOD, SST distribution values were 28 ˚C – 28,8 ˚C and SST anomaly values were ​​-1,2 to -0,4, in the negative phase the distribution of SST values were 29,8 ˚C – 30,35 ˚C and the SST anomaly values were 0,15 to 0,7. The rainfall intensity during positive IOD phase is 157 mm/month and during negative IOD phase is 525 mm/month.

Abstract

Pariaman City is a tourist destination in West Sumatra which in turn may be vulnerable to plastic waste pollution. This study was conducted in February 2020 in the coastal area of Pariaman City with the aim to determine the type and abundance of microplastic and to determine if there are any differences in the number of microplastics between stations and between depths of the sediment. The Survey method was applied and collected data from the field as well as from laboratory analysis were then analyzed and discussed. The results of the study showed that the type of microplastics found from the studied area were fragments, films, and fibres. The most common type found was fibre (59.01 %). The average abundance of microplastics at each station ranged from 178.89 – 235.56 particles/kg of dry sediment. The lowest abundance was at station 1 and the highest was at station 3. The average abundance of microplastic at 0-10 cm depth of dry sediment layer was 199.26 particles/kg and 220.00 particles/kg of dry sediment at 10-20 cm depth. ANOVA and t-test analysis showed that the quantity of microplastic between stations and between two different depths was not significantly different (p >0,05).
