Abstract

Abstract

Brachyura is a group of Crustaceans species often found in mangrove areas. Mangrove crabs in this study were from mangrove areas found in almost all Indonesian waters that were stored in the Reference Collection of Marine Biota Division, Research Center for Oceanography, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) from 1960 to 1970. The aim of this study was to assess the presence and distribution of mangrove crabs from the waters of Indonesia as a search and as a reference collection from 1960 to 1970.A total of 359spesimens were observed, consisted of 54 species, 22 genera, and seven families. The data were stored in a database system to perform spatial information analisys.

Abstract

The study for faunal diversity from mangrove sites in Wori were very less work carried out, especially on brachyuran crab taxa. Healthy mangrove forests provide  a critical for many species of Crabs in intertidal and estuarine areas are keys to healthy marine ecology. Mangroves are the most suitable feeding, breeding and nursery grounds for crabs and other crustaceans. In this study, the habitat distribution and diversity of crabs in Wori mangrove environment was recorded from  October 2015 and August 2016. In view of the significance of the mangrove habitat, in present study we selected three station with different habitat specifications as in  Wori Seaward (WSW), Wori Middle zone (WMZ) and Wori Landward (WLW). Total 15 species and 307 individuals of brachyuran crabs were recorded belonging to 10 genera and 6 families. Crabs belonging to family Sesarmidae was most dominant with 7 species. The other major outcome of study was maximum diversity was found at Wori Landward (WLW) site with 13 species, followed by Middle Zone (WMZ) site with 11 species and Wori Seaward (WSW) site with 10 species. Keywords: Brachyuran crabs, mangroves, mud flats, estuary, Wori, Bitung, North Sulawesi Indonesia

Abstract

The research was carried out in July 2004 at Makaham Delta, East Kalimantan. Thisresearch observed the diversity and the distribution pattern of mangrove crabs atmuara Ilu, Kaely, Bayor, and Beji. There are 33 species consisting of 7 families and 6908individu of crabs found in this research. Most of the mangroves crabs are clumpdistributed. The research method by using frame transects 1 m2 x 1 m2 with 5 up to 10meters distance (based on the thickness of mangrove in those areas). The distributionpattern of crabs analyze by using Index Morisita according to Brower and Zar.

Abstract

Studies on the community diversity of crustaceans have been conducted in the waters of Matasiri Islands, South Kalimantan, from 19th November to 1st December 2010. This research was conducted to determine the density, diversity and the presence of crustacean fauna in the waters of South Kalimantan, especially in the Matasiri Islands. Samples were collected using trawl gear operated by KR (Research Ship) BarunaJaya VIII in four Stations and three Stations of free collecting along the islands. Free sampling was conducted along the beach and the reef edge by breaking live and dead rocks, and digging sand and mud in the mangrove or using hand net around the beach of Matasiri Islands. Collection is also done using the gillnet gear which is installed in shallow water during high tides about 4 hours. The samples were collected during low tide. The results obtained were 1882 individuals covering 86 species and 19 families. The diversity index ranges between 0.97 (the lowest at Station 3 of free collecting) and 3.74 (the highest in Station 3 of trawl). While the similarity index ranged from 0.36 (the lowest in Station 1 of trawl) to 0.97 (the highest in Station 3 of free collecting). Penaeidae prawn has the highest density in each observed station. Portunidae crab has the second highest density. South Kalimantan waters especially Matasiri Islands is still in good condition for crustacean life.
