Abstract

Appendicitis is a common cause of abdominal pain that requires emergency surgery in each age group and sex. The incidence of appendicitis in the world reaches 3442 million cases each year. The survey at 15 provinces of Indonesia in 2014 showed 4,351 cases of hospitalized appendicitis.This aims to obtain information about the profile of patients suffering from appendicitis at the Siti Rahmah Islamic Hospital Padang West Sumatra in the period of 2016 – 2017.The study is descriptive by using secondary data from patient’s medical record.This study was conducted from January to February 2019, the sample are 65 samples by simple random sampling technique.The results showed that the highest age group of incidences was in the young adults (17-45 years), which is 39 people (60%), and the highest sex group was male 36 people (55.4%), leukocytosis with 50 people (76.9%), classification was acute appendicitis with 42 people (64.6%), pain onset was 24-48 hours 33 people (50.8%). The highest age group of 42 patients with acute diagnosis was young adults (73.8%), four patients with the chronic diagnosis were highest at young adults group, and 19 patients (36.8%) with the diagnosis of perforation were highest at the older adults group.
