Abstract

This paper explored the relationship of rural-urban migration to the total agricultural output in the Philippines. The researchers wanted to know if there is a relationship between the independent variables: rural-urban migration, average agricultural wage, number of employed people in agriculture, and inflation rate, and the dependent variable, which is agricultural output, and how these explanatory variables affect the dependent variable. Data used are from the years 1988 - 2018. The researchers used a quantitative research design and multiple regression to find out the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The findings of the study answer the purpose of this paper. It has been found that the relationship between rural-urban migration and the total agricultural output of the Philippines has a negative relationship. Other results showed that the number of people employed in agriculture and average agricultural wage have a positive effect on the country’s total agricultural output while inflation rate has a negative effect. Creating more opportunities for people living in rural areas and strengthening the institutional and governance in the agricultural sector can not only lessen the internal migration but also improve the country’s economy.

Abstract

The efficiency of the dairy industry in the Philippines is determined by the sector’s productivity in relation to investments, imports, and exports that it is making. The use of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) in this paper is to examine the connection between the dependent variable and independent variables. More so, this research aims to evaluate the efficiency of the dairy industry along with the objective of assessing the impact that investments, imports, and exports have. Quarterly data from 2006 to 2017 helps to obtain results and use for further interpretation using regression analysis. The study shows that investments, imports, and exports do affect the productivity of the dairy industry in the Philippines. It leads to rejecting the null hypothesis in this paper. The research findings may address these issues by giving attention to exports and investments mainly to machineries and other technologies that contribute to dairy operations. The researchers also recommend that to be able to improve productivity, investments, imports, and exports of the dairy industry, the government should provide more funding and assistance to dairy farmers. Abstract

Bitcoin is an open-sourced, decentralized system, despite its intangible characteristic, it is the most prominent digital currency developed by an unknown programmer famously known as Nakamoto in 2008. The aim of this paper is to render evidence whether Bitcoin is a secured platform for investing despite its volatile behavior by verifying whether the Market Capitalization, Trade Volume, Exchange Rate (USD) are critical determinants of Bitcoin price. The research makes use of secondary data from coindesk.com to gather results using Multiple Linear Regression and the Ordinary Least Squares in analyzing the relationship between the variables. Market Capitalization fails to reject the null hypothesis. Trade Volume and Exchange Rate (USD) are variations that can explain 93.87% of Bitcoin price. The results gathered shows that Bitcoin prices are highly volatile because of the volatility of the Independent Variables. Bitcoin as a means of investment is not a viable option of investment for its sudden volatility of high-high risk with a high-high return or loss.

Abstract

Previous studies have revealed that marital status and gender roles affect the totality of labor force. Societal norms that have been existing from hundreds of years ago are still prevalent nowadays. Unequal treatments are still present and mostly the disadvantage are females. This research tackles whether gender (male and female) would have an effect or has a relationship with the number of hours worked by people in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It further discusses the reason behind whether it affects or doesn’t affect the number of hours worked. Data from Philippine Statistics Authority from 1991 to 2020 is used as a basis and reference data to test whether gender affects the number of hours worked in those regions. Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao is used due to the reason that it is Philippine’s three major islands which is composed of several provinces and regions. Ordinary Least Squares is used to test whether there is a significant relationship between said variables and upon testing, in which resulted that there is no significant relationship.

Abstract

Electronic nicotine-containing electronic apportioning frameworks, commonly known as electronic cigarettes, have been predominantly considered a less damaging elective to standard cigarette smoking. E-industries have rapidly expanded, utilizing intense advancing messages comparable to those used to progress cigarettes in decades. Moreover, e-cigarettes are more engaging than conventional cigarettes for various reasons: tallying the choice of distinctive flavors, ease of availability, and utilization and effect of media. In accordance with this, the implication of sin tax towards e-cigarettes is to define sin tax as exacted on particular merchandise and administrations when purchasing the goods or products. These things get the extract assessment due to their capacity, or discernment, to be destructive or expensive to society. The study aims to determine the effect of the sin tax on e-cigarette consumption in Quezon City. The descriptive-quantitative will be imposed in the study as it involves data collection that is relevant to answering the concern of the subject of the study. The researchers will use a snowball sampling technique to reach the target sample size of 385. This method relies on recommendations from individuals with a specific interest characteristic with the target population. Identifying relevant literature will lead to the development of a self-made questionnaire. Thus, a pilot study will be conducted among 30 UST students to show the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. Using statistical software, a priori power analysis will be used to find the effect size given alpha. Moreover, the researchers will comply with the data privacy act law of 2013 and will ensure the commentary of the university's ethics and research review committee.
