Abstract

Dairy cows farm business level of KUD Tani Wilis in Nyawang Kidul, Sendang district, Tulungagung city has some problems resulting low livestock productivity. One of the causes of low levels of dairy reproductivity is the incidence of repeat breeder. Repeat breeder is a condition of a female cow that failed to breed after being mated three or more times with a normal and healthy fertilized bull. The main purpose of this research is to know the risk factor of repeat breeder in dairy cows at farmer level of KUD Tani Wilis in nyawang kidul, Sendang district, Tulungagung city. The type of research is descriptive research. This research was using 32 dairy cows from 6 breeders, the selection of cattles used Simple Random Sampling method. The collection data using questionnaires and direct observations in farms resulted that the evidence rate of dairy cattle's repeat breeder in this research is 45.7%. The results also showed that the influence of knowledge of farmers on disease or reproductive disorders positively correlated with the evidence of repeat breader.

Abstract

Repeat breeding is a reproductive disorder that harms dairy farmers because of the unachieved target to obtain one calf per year and decreased milk production. The repeat breeding syndrome can be caused by malnutrition. This study aimed to determine the effect of feeding silage, complete feed, and growth promoters in repeat breeder cows to restore the services per conception (S/C) and daily milk production. Thirty repeat breeder Holstein Friesian cows were divided randomly into three groups. The control group (P0) was fed 30-40 kg forage and 3-4 kg concentrate/head/day. Group P1 was given 8-10 kg silage or complete feed alternately every day; whereas P2 was given the same as for the P1 group, added with 10 ml growth promoter/head/day. Milk production and S/C were measured after six months of treatment. The results showed that the P1 and P2 groups returned S/C to normal (1.40 ± 0.52 and 1.30 ± 0.48), while the S/C of P0 group was 3.20 ± 0.63 (p <0.05). Daily milk production in the P1 and P2 groups (14.20 ± 1.40 and 14.60 ± 1.43 l/d) was also higher (p <0.05) than the control group (8.30 ± 1.06 l/d). It could be concluded that feeding silage and complete feeds alternately daily, with or without the addition of growth promoter, improved the S/C to the normal range and increased milk production.

Abstract

Etawa crossbred goat is one species of goat that is raised for milk production. One of the diseases that often occur in dairy livestock is mastitis, in which there is inflammation of the mammary gland. It is common in goat, that mastitis does not show clinical symptoms (subclinical). This research aims to determine the incidence of subclinical mastitis in Etawa crossbred goats in Bangelan village Wonosari district Malang regency. This research involved 25 respondent farms, which are Etawa crossbred dairy goat farms. In this research, subclinical mastitis cases were directly detected using California Mastitis Test (CMT). The results showed that out of 70 samples collected, 41 (58.6%) samples were positive. These CMT positive goats were from 88% of the respondent farms.

Abstract

Ovarian hypofunction is a condition in which the follicles in the ovary can not develop due to lack of feed. It can affect the pituitary anterior, so the production of FSH and LH was low. GnRH can stimulate the pituitary anterior to produced FSH and LH. This study aimed to prove that GnRH injection in dairy cows with ovarian hypofunction can initiate estrus, followed by pregnancy. This study used 12 dairy cows with BCS ≥ 2.75, with anestrus due to ovarian hypofunction. All dairy cows were divided into two treatment groups, P1 injected with GnRH at a dose of 100 µg intramuscularly and P2 injected with GnRH at a dose of 300 µg intramuscularly. The results were analyzed using an independent t-test and Chi-Square test. The result showed that estrus rate of P1 and P2 were both 100%, meanwhile onset of estrus of P2 (53.83 ± 8.1 h) was shorter p <0.05) than P1 (74.17 ± 4.7 h). Both of P1 and P2 showed 100% pregnancy rate. It could be concluded that GnRH injection could initiate 100% estrus, and followed by 100% pregnancy in dairy cows with ovarian hypofunction.
