Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas betain sebagai donor gugus metil berdasarkan parameter berat badan dan karkas. Sebanyak 100 ekor day old chicken (DOC) ayam broiler digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yang dibagi secara acak ke dalam 4 perlakuan pakan dengan 5 ulangan. Masing-masing ulangan terdiri dari terdiri dari 5 ekor ayam broiler. Pakan basal disusun dalam kondisi rendah metionin. Pakan kontrol diperoleh dari pakan basal yang disuplementasi metionin sehingga mencukupi kebutuhan yaitu sebesar 5g/kg pada fase starter dan 3,8 g/kg pada fase finisher. Tiga pakan perlakuan lainnya adalah pakan basal yang disuplementasi betain sebesar 1, 2 dan 3 g/kg pakan. Data yang diamati adalah pertambahan berat badan dankarakteristik karkas. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis statistik menggunakan analisis variansi rancangan acak lengkap dan jika terdapat perbedaan yang nyata dilanjutkan dengan Uji Dunnet. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suplementasi betain sebesar 1 g/kg dan 2 g/kg pakan defisien metionin dapat menghasilkan performan yang setara dengan pakan yang  disuplementasi  metionin.  Suplementasi  betain  pada  pakan  defisien  metionin  dapat menghasilkan karakteristik karkas yang setara dengan suplementasi metionin, yang berarti bahwa betain efektif dalam menghemat penggunaan metionin di dalam pakan ternak unggas. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa suplementasi betain sebesar 1 dan 2 g/kg pakan dapat menurunkan penggunaan metionindalampakanayam broiler.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the effect of lysine supplementation in ration on carcass yield, abdominal fat and fat content of ten-week old male local duck meat. The study used 80 male local ducks aged two weeks (average weight 326.40±31.84 g). The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design with four treatments, consisted of four replications with five male local ducks each. Rations consisted of pollard, yellow corn, soybean meal, palm oil, premix and lysine (in the form of L-Lysine HCl). The basal diet was supplemented with lysine at the amount of 0 (control), 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15%. The variables observed were the slaughter weight, abdominal fat percentage, carcass yield and fat content of the meat. The results showed that lysine supplementation in the diet of local duck ten-week old male decreased (P<0.01) abdominal fat but did not affect slaughter weight, carcass yield and fat content of meat. It can be concluded that lysine supplementation of 0.15 percent of the total ration can reduce abdominal fat percentage of ten-week old male local duck meat.

Abstract

The aimed of this study to isolate, select and characterize physically phytase-producing bacteriafrom hot springs in the Guci, Tegal. Isolation and enrichment of bacteria using Lurya Betani mediawith 2% of phytic acid substrate. Extraction of extracellular phytase thus obtained extract coarse andoptimization by loking at the relative activity at the difference in the resulting product. Phytaseproducingbacteria can be isolated from the hot springs of the Guci, Tegal with the highest relativeactivity in AG2 and AG2-1 colonies. The highest relative activity at a temperature of 55°C, pH 6, theincubation time of 90 minutes, the substrate concentration of 3% and a metal cofactor Ca2+ at aconcentration of 10-4M. Phytase-producing bacteria can be isolated from a hot spring in Guci, Tegaland have certain physical characteristics.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh frekuensi pemberian pakan terhadap kesan organoleptikdaginbg itik afkir. Sebanyak 24 ekor itik tua menjelang afkir dipelihara dengan 3 macam frekuensi pemberian pakan yaitu 1 kali sehari (P1), 2 kali sehari (P2) dan 3 kali sehari (P3). Diambil sampel sebanyak 8 ekor itik untuk masing-masing perlakuan. Peubah yang diamati adalah kadar lemak dan kesan organoleptik yang meliputi warna, keempukan, juisi, flavor, serta nilai organoleptik keseluruhan daging. Kadar lemak kasar daging ditetapkan dengan metode soxlet, sedangkan kesan organoleptik ditetapkan dengan uji panelis. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan analisis variasi rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) pola searah dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar lemak daging pada P2 lebih tinggi dibanding P1 dan P3 (P&lt;0,05). Keempukan daging pada P2 lebih baik daripada PI dan P3 (P&lt;0,01), demikian juga juisi daging pada P2 lebih baik daripada Pi dan P3 (P&lt;0,05). Sementara itu flavor daging pada P2 lebih baik daripada P1 (P&lt;0,05) tetapi berbeda tidak nyata dengan P3. Warna daging tidak dipengaruhi oleh perlakuan frekuensi pemberian pakan. Nilai organoleptik keseluruhan daging pada perlakuan P2 lebih baik daripada P1 dan P3 (P&lt;0,05). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kesan organoleptik daging dipengaruhi oleh frekuensi pemberian pakan, dimana kesan organoleptik yang paling baik adalah pada daging itik yang diberi pakan 2 kali sehari.

Abstract

Heterosis is often utilized as a success indicator in a crossbreeding program. It is defined as the deviation of the crossbred means relative to their parental breeds. Heterosis mechanism is highly dependent on the genetic factors and thus, we incorporated genetic information in its estimation. The objective of this article was to compare heterosis estimated with conventional and mixed model approaches. In total, phenotypes of 3804 individuals were recorded. Data were obtained from a crossbreeding experiment involving Boer bucks and Jawarandu does. Observed traits were birth weight, weaning weight and average daily gain. Conventional and mixed model methods were used to estimate the heterosis. The heterosis values (%) between B×B vs B×J, estimated with conventional method were -11.38, -10.51 and -10.39; with mixed model were -6.23, -9.27 and -9.68 for BW, WW and ADG respectively. Heterosis values in B×(B×J) relative to B×B, estimated with conventional method were -6.16, -10.35 and -11.69; whereas with mixed model were -8.01, -10.82 and -9.14 for BW, WW and ADG respectively. Conventional method tends to underestimate the means phenotype with lower standard errors compared to mixed model analysis results in all traits. Conventional method also introduces biased heterosis estimates compared to the mixed model. Conventional method ignores any potential effects in the estimation procedures; whereas mixed model approach incorporates all the systematic and random effect including family relationship information. Thus, mixed model produced more reliable results in genetic parameters estimation. We recommend employing mixed model analysis in estimating heterosis.

Abstract

This study investigated the egg production pattern at the onset of lay until peak production in Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) fed diet supplemented with betaine and methionine. Three hundred laying quails were randomly allocated to three groups of supplementations with 5 replicates of 20 quails. The three groups of treatments included basal diet (Control) or basal diet supplemented with 1.2 g betaine and 1.2 g methionine per kg diet. During onset of lay until 50% egg production (6 to 9 weeks of age), all groups were fed a basal diet, while the supplements were applied after 9 weeks. The egg production data were analyzed with analysis of variance and followed by Duncan’s test for significant results. During week 6 to 9, all groups of quails generated similar egg production since they received the basal diet. On the later phase, supplementation of betaine and methionine enhanced average weekly egg production (P<0.05) starting from week 10 compared with those without supplementation. The egg production curves indicated that production rapidly reached 60% soon after the onset of lay. Then, egg production rose sharply and reached the peaks of more than 80%, indicating good egg production patterns. Supplementation of betaine and methionine enhanced the average overall and peak production (P<0.01) without affecting the age at peak production. In addition, there were positive correlations between average of overall production and peak production of all treatments. It can be concluded that supplementation of betaine and methionine enhanced egg production in quails.

Abstract

The ducks hatchery produces a number of waste comprises empty shells from hatched eggs, infertile eggs, dead embryos, and unhatched eggs. The presence of the waste in large amount can cause an environmental pollution. Furthermore, it has a potential but has not received enough attention in terms of utilization as feed ingredient in poultry ration. It contains a substantial amount of nutrients such as protein and calcium, and can be processed into hatchery waste meal that can be applied as an inconventional feed ingredient in ducks ration. The purpose of this activity was to process the ducks hatchery waste into hatchery waste meal to be applied in the ration of local ducks. We colaborated with the Farmers Group of Sabar Sabar 1 and Subur Subur 2 in the Village Gaum, Tasikmadu, Karanganyar. This activity comprises of two stages. The first stage was instructional methods and dialogue through socialization, whereas the second stage was the practical of the hatchery waste meal production and its application in ration. The benefits of this activity is the application of hatchery waste meal can increase ducks productivity, minimize the costs of ration and can reduce the impact of hatchery waste on environmental pollution.Keywords: hatchery waste, local ducks, ration, farmers
