Abstract

The aims of this research were to find out whether the use of Group Work with Creative Writing Technique improves the students’ writing skills and interest of students’. Quasi-experimental design was applied in this research. The experiment of this research was third semester students of English Educational Study Program of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin Baubau, in 2014/2015 academic years. The sample of the research was 80 students which consist of two classes; in experimental 40 students and control class 40 students. There were two instruments in getting the data on this research : the test on narrative writing as well as questionaires to get the interest. The researcher used descriptive and inferential for test data analysis. Meanwhile , likert cale for interest. The findings were: (1) the application of Group Work with Creative Writing technique got the students’ writing performance improved, (2) the application of Group Work with Creative Writing technique is interesting to the students on writing class. On the other hand, the application of Group Work with Creative Writing technique improved the students’ writing performance on content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics and they got very high interest on the application of Group Work with Creative Writing technique in teaching writing.

Abstract

The objectives of this study was to find out the teaching style of teachers at SMP Negeri 27 Buton Tengah. The type of this research used qualitative research. Then to the design used by case studies research. It use several methods, such as interviews and observations to collect the data. The location of the research was at SMP Negeri 27 Buton Tengah. This research was precisely location in Madongka Village, Lakudo, Buton Tengah. The subject of this research was an English teacher at second grade of SMP Negeri 27 Buton Tengah.The instrument in this research process was the researcher herself who acts as the research instrument. To analyze the data from observation and interviews, researchers used Data collection, Data reduction, and data display. The result of the finding indicated that the types of teaching style used by English teacher at SMPN 27 Baton Tengah namely Expert style, formal authority style, Personal model or demonstrator and facilitator style. The dominant teaching style used by the teacher was formal auditory style, personal model or demonstrator. The teacher usually design group activities that require active learning, student to student’s collaboration, and problem solving.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the speaking abilities of SMA Negeri 2 Baubau students in the eleventh grade by having them view videos using the national geographic channel approach. Eighty SMA Negeri 2 Baubau eleventh graders made up the sample. A test and questionnaire were used as the research instrument. One technique descriptive analysis was employed to analyze the data about the speaking achievement of the students at SMA Negeri 2 Baubau. Students' scores in both the control and experimental classes were described using a descriptive quantitative analysis. The results showed that students' speaking achievement at SMA Negeri 2 Baubau may be impacted by watching videos on the national geography channel. This discrepancy was evident in the t-test result of 8,291, which was higher than the t-table result of 2,021, indicating that the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Baubau are drawn to national geographic channel method videos.
