Abstract

Problem in this research is how is students’ opinions toward writing activities. This research is a qualitative research. The subject of the research is First semester consisted of 21 students who pragrammed Basic Writing subject in English Study Program at Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University, academic year 2019-2020. The instrument used in this research is questionairre about students’ opinion toward writing activities. The test consisted of 10 numbers with 5 optional degree of feeling, are: Strongly Agree (5), Agree (4), Neither Agree nor Disagree (3), Disagree (2) and Strongly Disagree (1). Data analysis uses the percentage formula as the frequency is divided by the number of the students, then the total number of the percentage is multiplied by 100% (Sugiyono,2010 in Husain, 2012).1 The research outcomes is majority students at the first semester of English Study Program, Teaching Training and Education Faculty, Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University, academic year 2019/2020 presented their positive opinion and responses toward writing activities.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to what extent language learning strategies used by students give an impact on their English academic achievement. The instrument of the research was achievement test and interview. The intention of the researchers to take the achievement test was to find out English academic achievement of learners (English grade) in second semester academic year 2019/2020. The second instrument for gathering data concerning students’ strategies was semi-structured interview. In conclusion, 45 % of the variance in the English academic achievement of IPA 1 students can be explained by the language learning strategies used, while 57 % the variance of the English academic achievement of IPA 2 students can described by the LLS employed.

Abstract

Problem in this research was whether summarizing short story improved students’ vocabulary mastery in SMP Negeri 2 Baubau. This research aimed at improving students’ vocabulary mastery by summarizing short story in eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Baubau. This research applied quasi experimental design with two groups, control and experimental class. The population of the research were 330 students. The sample of this research consisted of 62 students selected by using random sampling technique. The instrument used in this research was test. Research outcome showed that the mean score of pre-test from experimental class was 54.35, while in post-test 87.74. Meanwhile, the mean score of the pre-test result from control class was 52.77 and in the post-test 75.81. From hypothesis test result by using t-test, it obtained t-count was -.12.285 and the significant value 0.000 <0.05. So that, it can be concluded that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Therefore, the summarizing short story to improve English vocabulary mastery in SMP Negeri 2 Baubau was effective.

Abstract

The problem statement in this research was “How was the level writing ability of students at grade eleven SMK Negeri 1 kambowa?” The objective of this research was to investigate the students level ability in writing. This research used a quantitative method with a descriptive design. Source of data in this research was student at grade XI of SMK Negeri 1 Kambowa. Sample was taken by using saturated sample tehnique, the number of sample was 30 students. Instrument used in this study was a test. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive analysis and inferential analysis in the form of t-test. The result showed that the students’ writing ability were still lacking. This proved by the t-test that t-count was greater than T- table (4,054>1,699). Based on Hypothesis testing, it means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, it could be concluded that the students writing ability on grade eleven at SMK Negeri 1 Kambowa is not high.

Abstract

The problem in this research was how is students’ motivation in reading English at grade VIII SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. This research was descriptive qualitative research. The population of the research was grade VIII of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau which consisted of 11 classes with total 345 students. The sample in this research was taken with random sampling technique that was class VIII.1 which consisted of 25 students. The instrument used was Motivations for Reading Questionnaire (MRQ). The research outcome showed that 5 students out of the total student are in high motivation category, 13 students out of the total students are in average motivation level, and 7 students out of the total students are in low motivation level. Then, it can be concluded that the students’ reading motivation level is in the average motivation level.

Abstract

The main problem of the research was ‘what are the problems faced by the students in learning vocabulary at the SMP Satap Palea?’ The research was case study. The subjects of the research were students and an English teacher in SMP Satap Palea at grade seven. The data of research were collected through test and interview. The data were analyzed through three steps adopted from Miles and Huberman; data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that the result of test of the students of SMP Satap Palea was low. The problem faced by the students were lack or low motivation in learning English vocabulary, the students had low interest in learning English and lack of strategy used in learning vocabulary. It was indicated by the indifferent attitude or their reluctance to memorize English vocabulary. This reluctance impacted their mastery of English vocabulary. The students of SMP Satap Pelae rarely repeated their English lesson at home. The result of interview also indicated that student’s environment did not show positive impact for the students to learn, including the students peer.

Abstract

This research aimed to assess When English Rings a Bell, an introductory English textbook. In addition, this research seeks to examine one textbook used in seventh-grade classrooms. This research aims to determine if the goals of the English textbook When English Rings a Bell align with the principles of teaching English to young students. When English Rings a Bell, the researcher, the evaluation checklist from (Bilash, 2009), and the textbook's material served as the research instruments. Overall, the textbook seems like it would be a good fit for young learners in terms of several aspects, such as General Appearance, Layout and Design, Activities, and Language skills.). Abstract

Abstract    This study aims to investigate the level of students' anxiety and determine the teacher's strategies for reducing students' anxiety levels. Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety level Scale (FLCAS) and semi-structured interviews were used to determine the students' anxiety levels and teachers' strategies for reducing the students' anxiety. The result showed that students’ anxiety was at the middle anxiety level, with a mean score of 108.61. Therefore, teachers should employ various strategies, namely establishing a secure environment, speaking English effortlessly, and creating pair and group work. The number of strategies enhances opportunities for students to speak the target language in class and fosters a safe learning atmosphere where students may express themselves freely.

Abstract

Problem statement in this research was whether the use of everyone is a teacher here increase students speaking ability on eleventh grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Pasarwajo. Objective in this research was to found out the significant increasing of students speaking ability by using everyone is a teacher here compared using conventional method in class XI students.This research used quasy experimental research with quantitative approach. Population in this research were all eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Satu Pasarwajo with total population were 64 students. This research used random sampling technique. Data collection in this research was carried out using research instrumen of test. The test was collect administering pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Pre-test and post-test was given to know the students speaking ability before get treatment and after get treatmen. The data obtained in this research were analyzed by descriptive statistic and inferential statistic. Based on the finding of the research, the research obtained the mean value of pretest in Experimental class was 46.66 and the mean value of posttest in Experimental class was 63.57, the mean value of pretest in Control class was 45.57 and the mean value of posttest in Control class was 45.85. The significant value was 0.000, t-count was greater than t-table (8.336>2.021). Based on the result, the researchers conclude that there is an improvement in students’ speaking ability using the method of of everyone is a teacher here.

Abstract

The problem statement of this research was does the use of animation video improve the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of animation video improve the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. The type of the research was a quantitative research with applying quasi- experimental method. The population was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau as many as 325 students. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling amounted 58 students. The data collection was carried out by using an instrument that was test. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the application of animation video on the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. The t-test results show that the probability value (t-count) is 2.295 and sig (2-tailed) is 0.025 which is less than 0.05 so that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (HO) is rejected. It means, there is a significant effect before and after the application of animation video, as well as the average value of pre-test and post-test experimental class 51.55 to 80.76. as well as the control class 55.24 to 70.28.
