Abstract

Thick-wall vessels and pipes cylindrical shape are very typical in power plant, chemical, processing, oil and gas industry. The equipment with cylindrical shape can be either thin or thick wall which depends on the function of that particular equipment. Typically, thick-wall cylinder is used when the equipment is needed to accommodate high pressure contents. Mostly, cracks appear either on the internal or external of a thick-wall cylinder. Primarily, when welding is applied in the fabrication of the thick-wall cylinder, cracks can easily appear due to solidification or hydrogen embrittlement at the welded joint, typically butt-welded joint. Hence, it is critical to examine the stress distribution along the crack and resolve the stress intensity factor of the cracks in both welded and non-welded internally pressurized thick-wall cylinder. Finite element analysis has been conducted using the engineering software, ABAQUS CAE to investigate the stress distribution and to perform the evaluation of stress intensity factor. Besides, weight function method has also been used by other researchers to determine the factor of stress intensity for both welded and non-welded thick-wall cylinder. The results were compared in terms of both of the methods applied. The last, the effect of the butt-welded joint profile in thick-wall cylinder has also been investigated.

Abstract

Berdasarkan Pasal 13 ayat (1) PP No. 60 Tahun 2008 tentang SPIP, Pimpinan Instansi Pemerintah wajib melakukan penilaian risiko. Penilaian risiko dilakukan melalui manajemen risiko. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Polban karena Polban sebagai institusi pemerintah yang melaksanakan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi Negeri belum menyusun peta risiko sebagai bagian dari SPIP. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Penelitian dilakukan dalam tiga tahap. Tahap pertama, studi literatur sebagai studi pendahuluan, yaitu mempelajari peta risiko yang dilakukan oleh instansi lain. Tahap kedua penyebaran kuesioner ke jurusan dan unit yang ada di lingkungan Polban, untuk mengetahui pemahaman tentang manajemen risiko. Langkah berikutnya adalah sosialisasi manajemen risiko pada setiap jurusan dan unit di lingkungan Polban. Sosialisasi ini bertujuan agar pihak yang terlibat dalam pencapaian tujuan organisasi Polban mempunyai persepsi yang sama dalam menentukan tingkat risiko. Sosialisasi diikuti dengan pembuatan peta risiko setiap jurusan dan unit, hingga menghasilkan dokumen peta risiko yang terintegrasi di lingkungan Polban. Tahap ketiga pemantauan pembuatan peta risiko di jurusan dan unit sesuai dengan aturan dan arahan. Hasilnya menunjukkan pimpinan unit sebagai penanggung jawab yang berada di lingkungan Polban memahami arti penting risiko dan risiko yang akan muncul pada setiap aktivitas. Hal ini terlihat dari jawaban kuesioner sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan sosialisasi SPIP yang diselenggarakan oleh manajemen Polban.

Abstract

Lifting and transporting equipment is one of the keys to carrying out work in the manufacturing and construction industries. Due to limited access, various obstacles must be overcome in some working areas. A ganrty crane is an alternative lifting equipment that has high flexibility. This article reports the research results on the girder’s main components. This component gets direct contact with loading when lifting and rigging work is carried out. This research method was conducted by comparing manual calculation models and CAE using the Solidworkss Simulation software. From these two methods, this study yielded 23.091 and 25.54MPa for manual calculations and the finite element method, respectively. Furthermore, in the finite element method with direct contact loading, a stress of 40.52MPa is obtained. From the three stress calculations, it can be concluded that the safety factor has exceeded the requirements set out in the standard. Furthermore, utilizing the Goodman model, mitigating the possibility of fatigue failure also indicates a safe condition. Based on recent research reports, a potential self-healing is not yet possible to be recognized well especially for metals having a grain size of micron.
