Abstract

ABSTRACTMangrove trees are plants or plant communities that live in the sea and the land that is affected by tides.  Mangrove habitat is often found at the commeeting spot of the mouth of the river and sea water which then becomes protector of land from ocean waves. From river flow to the mangrove and at high tide, mangrove trees surrounded by salt water or brackish water.  Mangrove forests thrive in the delta region and a broad and large streams with a wide estuary. On the beach there are no rivers , narrow mangrove areas.  Mangrove forests have great tolerance to salinity and can grow in high salinity land where normal plants can not grow . Mangrove forests are the main ecosystems supporting coastal communities . Besides having the ecological function as a provider of food for marine life, coastal erosion anchoring, anchoring the tidal waves and tsunamis, absorbent waste, preventing sea water intrusion, mangrove forests can also serve to provide the food needs of the surrounding population. Kata Kunci : Manfaat Hutan Mangrove, Kehidupan.

Abstract

ABSTRACTHypersensitivity is the overreaction undesirable because too sensitif immune response (damaging, resulting in discomfort, and sometimes fatal) produced by the normal immune system. Reaction hipersentsitivitas have 4 types of reactions as follows: Type I: the reaction Anafilaksi, antigens or allergens are free to react with the antibody, in this case the IgE bound to mast cells or basophils cells with consequent release of histamine. This situation caused a reaction-type fast. Type II: cytotoxic reaction, the antigen bound to the target cell. In this case the IgE antibodies and IgM in the presence of complement will be provided with an antigen, which can result in the destruction of these cells. This reaction is a reaction that is rapid, and allografi reaction, ulcers Mooren is a reaction of this type. Type III: complex immune response, the antibody binds to the antigen and the complement to form immune complexes. This situation raises neurotrophichemotactic factors that could cause local inflammation or damage. Generally occur in small blood vessels.  Its presence in cornea may include herpes simplex keratitis, keratitis due to bacteria. (Stafilokok, pseudomonas) and fungi. Such reactions also occur on the Herpes simplex keratitis. Type IV: delayed type reactions, the type IV whose role is known as T lymphocytes or cellular immunity. Sensitized T lymphocytes (sensitized T lymphocytes) reacts with the antigen, and cause the release of mediators (lymphokines) which found in rejection reactions after keratoplasti, keraton- jungtivitis flikten, Herpes simplex keratitis and keratitis diskiformis. Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the prevalence of intestinal worms and Ascaris lumbricoides infection rate in primary school children in Nelayan Indah Village Medan Labuhan Sub-District. Samples from this study were primary school children classes I up grade VI as many as 50 people. Quantitative fecal examination performed using Stoll dilution method. The results showed that the worm prevalensi Ascaris lumbricoides age group of 6-9 years was 100% and the age group 10-13 years was 96%. Ascaris lumbricoides worm infection rate in primary school children in Nelayan Indah Village Medan Labuhan District belong to the classification of sub-field loss clinics. Kata Kunci : Prevalensi kecacingan, anak Sekolah Dasar.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe research is intended to know the existence of Escherichia coli in well-water in Desa Sungkit ,kecamatan Bingai.  The research is carried out in November 2013 up to January 2014. The sample is done purposively with the variation of the  distance of the stable of the cows with the well, namely I (at home), II (1-5 metres), III (6-10 metres).  Of each distance, it is taken 10 homes with three times repetition. The existence of Escherichia coli is analyzed with Most Probable Number (MPN) method.  The result of the research show that well-water on the third distance with the stable of the cows show the existence of average of Escherichia coli between  37 colony up to 1093 colony per 100 mL.  Kata Kunci : Air sumur, Escherichia coli.

Abstract

ABSTRACTNutritional status is a state of the body as a result of food consumption and utilization of nutrients which can be distinguished between poor, less, better, and more nutritional status. Consumption of food affects the nutritional status of a person. Good nutritional status occurs when the bodies are getting enough nutrients. Nutritional status can be determined based on anthropometric measurements. This study aims to determine the nutritional status of children under five years of age by size anthropometry. This study used a cross-sectional approach which was a type of research that emphasized the time measurement/observation data was only one variable at a time. The data collected was qualitative data in the form of education and employment levels. While quantitative data was the height and weight of children under five years of age. The data were collected through observation and interviews. Nutritional status data were obtained by measuring body weight (BW) and height (TB) using the scale and mikrotoa conducted by researchers. Measurement of nutritional status with the index BW/TB considered normal if -2 s/d +2 SD, wasthing -3 s/d < -2 SD, very thin < -3SD, obese > +2 SD. The results shows that the majority (45%) of children have normal nutritional status, 30% of children have nutritional satus wasthing, 5% of children have a very low nutritional status and 20% of obese children have nutritional status.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIodium is one of micro substances required by body, eventhough it is in such as small relative amount.  However, once it is neglegted, it may cause the bad impact to human life.  The sufferers of Iodium Deficiency Disorder is as the burden for surrounding people.  Iodium deficiency Disorder causes mental retardism and in fact it can be prevented.  This disorder is also called as Iodium Deficiency.  The disease has not been commonly known and it is still neglected.  Nowaday, it is predicted 1,6 billions of people in all the world face the risk of iodium deficiency and 300 millions people suffer mental retardism as the effect of iodium deficiency.  Approxiamately 30,000 newborn babies died every year and more than 120,000 cretine babies such as mental retardism, short height, deaf mute, or palsied.   Some of them have IQ for ten percent under their potential.  Among those with normal newborn with low consumption of nutrient diet are those with low IQ, weak, and apathic in facing life.  Iodium deficiency will produce poor people, and face the difficulty in studying.  The risk occurs as the effect of iodium deficiency in its diet, and it has the influence on brain growth.  Iodium is as important element for forming tyroid hormone.  It is required for normal growth, mental and physical development of both human and animal.  The most dominant effect of iodium deficiency is goiter, that is the enlargement of tiroid gland in neck area. Kata Kunci : Iodium, zat gizi.

Abstract

The Dipterocarpaceae plant, raru (Cotylelobium melanoxylon) is widespread in Southeast Asia. The bark of raru has been used by local communities in North Sumatera as antidiarrheal drugs due to its antibacterial compounds. The antibacterial activity of the rarus bark is induced by endophytic fungi that live in the region of the bark. This study aimed to identify the endophytic fungi-producer of antibacterial compounds in the bark of raru (C. melanoxylon) by means of molecular analysis. In general, endophytic fungi have the ability to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Thirty-eight isolates of endophytic fungi were isolated from the bark of raru. Selection of isolates for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 35218 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 used the dual culture assay. Selection using the dual culture assay yielded 6 endophytic fungal isolates that have the ability to inhibit the growth of test bacteria. EF10A sample was the most powerful isolate inhibiting the growth of both bacteria test. Those six bacteria molecularly identified used a sequence generated from ITS rDNA region. Based on rDNA ITS region sequences, isolate, the producers of the antibacterial compound were identified as Talaromyces cellulolyticus, Penicillium purpurogenum, Aspergillus sp., Trichoderma harzianum, and Aspergillus orizae. The results of this study can be used by researchers to explore more potential endophytic fungi in raru plants (C. melanoxylon) as a source of medicine. The data obtained need to be supported by further research to isolate the bioactive compounds that can inhibit the growth of microbial pathogens.
