Abstract

K.H. Muhammad Yahya (commonly known as Abuya Sepuh or Abuya Mamad) is an Islamic scholar from Cimahi. He is a Da'i, Murshid Tariqah, and also a Judge in the Religious Courts. He was the founder of Pesantren Darussurur Cimahi, and extensively wrote Sundanese nadhom, and participated in spreading the Islamic da'wah in the City of Cimahi. He contributed to education, social, religion, and Islamic da’wah. This study aims at finding out the biography of K.H. Muhammad Yahya and his Da'wah Activities in Cimahi. The method used is a historical research method which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that, first, K.H. Muhammad Yahya was born in 1917 and died in 2009 in the Main Village, Cimahi. He is the son of K.H. Muhammad Azhari and Hj. Khadijah, his nasab through his father reached Maulana Syarif Hidayatullah. His educational genelogy was formed from the environment and education he got from various teachers, such as Habib Ali al-Attas (Jakarta), Habib Abdullah Bilfaqih (Malang), Muhaddist Assayid Alwi bin Abbas al-Malik (Mecca), K.H. M. Kurdi (Cibabat), K.H. M. Zarkasyi (Cibaduyut). Second, the da'wah activities K.H. Muhammad Yahya in Cimahi covers several aspects and media, namely da’wah through educational institutions with the establishment of pesantren Darussurur (1947-2009), da’wah through religious teachings (1947-2009), da’wah through Tariqah (TQN) (1960s), and da’wah through writing (1979-2009), in which he wrote and translated Arabic books composed in the form of Sundanese nadhom, such as Nadhom Shoibul Iman, Aqidatul awam, Lawang Setan, and many others.

ago, along with the development of Islamic culture which acculturated with culture in the archipelago. Accordingly, the writing tradition of the Quran formed the typical Al-Qur'an manuscripts in terms of calligraphy also in terms of illumination (appearance). Likewise the Al-Qur'an of the Sundawi Mushaf which was written in the last decade of the 20th century, precisely in 1995. The writing was carried out in Bandung, at the initiative of the then Governor of West Java, R. Nuriana. Al-Qur'an, Sundawi Mushaf has its own characteristics, both in terms of writing (calligraphy) and in terms of appearance (illumination), so that these characteristics become distinguishing with other manuscripts. The writing of the Al-Qur'an in 'Sundawi manuscripts was carried out on August 14, 1995 to January 25, 1997 on the initiative of the Governor of West Java at the time, R. Nuriana, based on Governor Decree No. 451.05 / SK.1196-Binsos / 95. Conceptually, Al-Qur'an Sundawi Mushaf is a harmonious blend of revelation texts of the Qur'an with the cultural treasures of West Java that are socio-culturally included in the Pasundan culture. From the conceptual framework, the special characteristic of the calligraphy system was found and the typical illumination design was lifted from the variety of ornamental and flora found in Pasundan land, so that this manuscript has a distinctive appearance with the "Sundawi" designation.

Abstract

This article seeks to describe one of the Dutch-Indonesian conflict, the liberation of West Irian. The focus of this study is the role of Abdul Haris Nasution in the Liberation of West Irian in 1957-1962. The method used in this study is historical research method which is carried out through four stages: heuristic, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Abdul Haris Nasution’s role in this event was taking over Dutch companies, establishing the National Front for the Liberation of West Irian (FNPIB) and becoming its chairman, also TNI diplomacy by buying weapons and mision abroad to hear other countries’ responses regarding West Irian.

Abstract

Tulisan ini merupakan hasil penelusuran pustaka atas nama raja-raja yang menggunakan penanda khusus varman yang dalam literasi Hindu atau bahasa Sanskrit sangat popular dan dianggap tua. Nama tersebut tersebar di dunia, termasuk di Nusantara. Metode penelitian menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan perspektif geografi, sejarah dan linguistik. Dengan korpus sejumlah nama varman akan dilacak keberadaannya mengenai: 1) arti dan makna kata varman, 2)  sebaran kata varman,3) prasasti-prasasti yang menuliskan nama varman.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengisahkan hagiografi dari seorang pendiri Kesultanan Kadriah Pontianak bernama Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman al-Qadri. Adapun metode yang digunakan  adalah Pendekatan penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan folklore (tradisi lisan). Karena dalam folklor terkandung unsur-unsur budaya lisan, maka dalam hal ini diambil dua narasumber yang merupakan keturunan dari Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman al-Qadri, bernama Syarif Iskandar dan Syarif Ahmad. Adapun hasil dari pembahasan ini yaitu sebuah urban legend atau legenda masyarakat urban di daerah Kalimantan Barat mengungkap asal-usul nama Pontianak. Disebutkan jika nama Pontianak berasal dari kata Kuntilanak, sosok makhluk astral yang digambarkan berjenis kelamin perempuan dan berambut panjang. Syarif Abdurrahman terpaksa melepaskan tembakan meriam untuk mengusir hantu itu sekaligus menandakan di mana meriam itu jatuh, maka di sanalah wilayah kesultanannya didirikan. Sultan berhasil mengalahkan hantuk Kuntilanak tersebut dan mendirikan Kesultanan Pontianak. Tembakan meriam Sultan dan pengikutnya tersebut sampai saat ini sudah menjadi sebuah tradisi warga Pontianak, terutama dalam menyambut hari raya Idul Fitri dan dijadikan sebagai ajang perlombaan meriam karbit sehingga menjadi sebuah destinasi wisata warga lokal

Abstract

This research focuses on a philological study aimed at unraveling and understanding the process of Walangsungsang's search for Islam, the main character in the manuscript "Lampahing Para Wali Kabeh." This manuscript holds significant historical and religious value in Javanese culture. The objective of this study is to analyze and interpret the philological context surrounding Walangsungsang's journey in comprehending Islam. The research methodology involves a critical analysis of the text of "Lampahing Para Wali Kabeh" and related historical sources. A philological approach is applied to comprehend Walangsungsang's role within the social, cultural, and religious context of the past. Textual and linguistic analyses are used to gain profound insights into the Islamic teachings presented in this manuscript. The findings reveal that Walangsungsang is a character on a quest for meaning and truth within Islam. His spiritual journey is reflected through the events he experiences and dialogues with the "Wali Kabeh" (The Enlightened Ones). The manuscript also portrays how Islamic teachings were conveyed within Javanese culture during that period. This philological study contributes to a deeper understanding of the process of Islam's adaptation and assimilation in Javanese society in the past. Additionally, this research provides insights into the role of literature in conveying religious messages and spiritual values to the present generation
