Abstract

Rice is an important food in Indonesia, because it is the staple food for mostpeople. Golden snail (Pomacea canaliculata L.) is an important pest in rice plant.Synthetic chemical pesticides control has many negative impacts such as theoccurrence of pest resistance, pest resurgence and environmental pollution. Theuse of betel nut (Areca catechu L.) as a molluscicides is one of alternative pestcontrol to reduce the use of synthetic chemical pesticides. The purpose of thisstudy is to obtain the exact dose of betel nut flour to control golden snails(Pomacea canaliculata L.) in rice plants. The research was conducted atLaboratory of Plant Pest and Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT) Kebun PercobaanFakultas Pertanian Universitas Riau by using a completely randomized designwith 5 treatments and 4 replications. Treatment consists of betel nut flour dose of4 g/clump, 5 g/clump, 6 g/clump, 7 g/clump and 8 g/clump. Doses of betel nutflour 8 g/clump able to control golden snail with a total mortality of 87.49%.Appropriate dose to kill 95% golden snail is 1% or the equivalent of 10 g/clump.Keyword: Rice (Oryza sativa L.), Golden Snail (Pomacea canaliculata L.),Betel nut (Areca catechu L.)

Abstract

Green stink bug (Nezara viridula L.) is an important pest in soybean. The use of synthetic chemical control has many negative impacts such as the occurrence of pest resistance, pest resurgence and environmental pollution. Botanical pesticides such as betel nut (Areca catechu L.) is one alternative pest control to reduce the use of synthetic chemical pesticides. The purpose of this study is to obtain appropriate concentrations of betel nut extracts to control green stink bug (N. viridula L.) in soybean crops. This research was conducted in the pest laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau by using a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Betel nut extract treatments given was 0 g/l of water, 10 g/l of water, 20 g/l of water, 30 g/l of water, 40 g/l and 50 g/l of water. Concentration of 50 g/l of water caused total mortality 97.5 %. Appropriate concentration to kill 95 % of test insects is 4.64 % equivalent to 46.4 g/l approaches 50 g/l of water. Abstract

Nettle caterpillar Setora nitens Walker. is one of the major pests of oil palm plant. The use of synthetic chemical pesticides to control pest has many negative impacts such a pest resistance, pest resurgence and environmental pollution. To reduce the negative impacts cause by synthetic chemical pesticides, then application of the alternative pest control using botanical insecticides such as Derris eliptica Benth. Which is environmentally friendly is needed. This research is aims to test the effectiveness of some concentration of Derris eliptica Benth. root powder and to obtain the proper concentration to control Setora nitens Wlk. on oil palm plant (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.). This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pest and in the Technical Unit (UPT), Experimental Field Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. Using completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments one 30 g Derris eliptica root powder/litre of water (30 g/l water) , namely AT 2, (40 g/l of water) , AT 3 (50 g/l of water) , AT 4 (60 g/l of water) and AT 5 (70 g/l of water). Data has been analyzed using analysis of variance and furthen testing using Duncan’s New Mulitiple Range Test at the 5% level. The result of the result research indicate that concentration of 50 g/l of water is an effective concentration to kill S. nitens because cause total mortality 84.37% , early death of S. nitens achieved in 2,5 hours. Lethal concentration of Derris root powder kill 95% of test insects S. nitens larvae was 5.5% , equivalent to 55 g/l of water, within the range of approaches to 50 and 60 g/l of water of treatments .  Keywords: Oil palm plant(Elaeis guineensis Jacq.), Nettle caterpillar Setora nitens Walker, Derris eliptica Benth.

Abstract

Weevil maize (Sitophilus zeamais M.) is an important pest in corn grain who are storage in warehouse. The research aims to get effective concentrations of soursop leaf powder in controlling the weevil maize (Sitophilus zeamais M.) on corn grain in storage. This research was conducted in the Laboratory Plant Pest, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau using a completely randomized design with                6 treatments and 4 replications. Each experimental unit consisted of 10 Sitophilus zeamais M. in each soursop leaf powder 0% (0 g/100 g corn grain), 2% (2 g/100 g corn grain), 4% (4 g/100 g corn grain), 6% (6 g/100 g corn grain), 8% (8 g/100 g corn grain), 10% (10 g/100 g corn grain). Data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance and least significant difference test at the advanced level of 5%. The results showed that the concentration of soursop leaf powder 10% (10 g/100 g corn grain) is more effective in controlling pest Sitophilus zeamais M. due cause total mortality of 92,5%, the early death for during 79,25 hours and lethal time 50 during 242,5 hours. Abstract

Leafminer fly, Liriomyza spp. are widely known as new important pests attacking many vegetable species inhigh land in Indonesia. The objective of the research was to study community of parasitoid leafminer in highaltitude, and parasitization level. This research also looked at more specific on parasitization level caused byOpius chromatomyiae. There were four species of leafminer recorded from the survey, Liriomyza huidobrensis,Liriomyza sativae, Liriomyza chinensis and Chromatomyia horticola. The observation also found eight species ofparasitioid associated with collected leafminers. Six species of recorded parasitoid belonged to family of Eulopidae,and two rest species belonged to Braconidae and Eucoilidae respectively. Those eight species of parasitoids wereHemiptarsenus varicornis, Asecodes deluchii, Neochrysocharis okazakii, Neochrysocharis formosa ,Neocrhysocharis sp. Quadrastichus liriomyzae, Opius chromatomyaie, Gronotoma micromorpha. ParasitoidOpius chromatomyiae and Hemiptarsenus varicornis were found to be dominant in the range altitude between1001-1300 and 1301-1600 asl. From 16 spesies of hosts attacked by leaf miners, only Opius chromatomyiae wasrecorded to have ability to parasitize the leafminer in 13 host species with parasitization level reached 1,84–62,26%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of the wild betel leaf extract in inhibiting the grow thof fungi G.boninense.This reserach was conducted experimentally by using completely randomized design, which consists of 5 treatments and 4 replications, in each unit there were two petris dishes in order to obtain 40 units of treatment. The treatment being tested is the use of multiple concentrations of extracts of betel leaf meal ie 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 g / l. Data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance and furthertested withDuncan's Multiple Test New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5%. The results showed that the concentration of powder extract of wild betel significantly affected G. boninense and gave the different affected of fungi G. boninense. Powder extract of wild betel leaf at concentration 50 g/l water gave a better ability to control the fungus G. boninense namely 41,83 %.   Keyword : Stem root, G. boninense, P. aduncum, the concentration of leaf powder extract

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of the combination of oil palm bunch ash with urea fertilizer on the growth of cocoa seedlings (Theobroma cacao L.) in peat soil and to know the best dose. This research was conducted in experimental garden of Agricultural Faculty of University of Riau on December 2016 until March 2017. This research method used non factorial Complete Random Design (RAL) consisting of 6 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of 4 g AJKS + 0.5 g Urea, 4 g AJKS + 1 g Urea, 4 g AJKS + 2 g Urea, 8 g AJKS + 0.5 g Urea, 8 g AJKS + 1 g Urea and 8 g AJKS + 2 g Urea. Parameters observed were; plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, root volume, ratio root crown and dry weight of cocoa seedlings. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using vocabulary and then tested further with DNMRT test at 5% level. The combination of AJKS with urea fertilizer in peat soil significantly affected the diameter of stem, root volume. However, the effect was not significant on plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, ratio root crown and dry weight of cocoa seedlings. The results of this study indicate that giving AJKS combination with urea fertilizer with dose 8 g AJKS + 2 g urea in peat soil produces the best growth of cocoa seedlings. Keywords : Oil palm bunch ash, Urea fertilizer, Peat soil, Cocoa

Abstract

Research aims to obtain dose of spiked pepper fruit flour (Piper aduncum L.) better of  imago S. oryzae on the rice. Research conducted at the laboratory of plant pests, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from May to June 2015. The Research was conducted experimentally by using completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of 5 treatments, where each treatments was repeated 4 times to obtain 20 units experiment. The treatment used in the research is (0 g/ 100 g, 2 g/ 100 g, 4 g/ 100 g, 6 g/ 100 g, 8 g/ 100 g of rice). Data obtained analyzed statistically using analysis of variance followed by least significant difference (LSD) at 5%. Dose applications of spiked pepper fruit flour at doses 6 g/ 100 g rice better of  imago S. oryzae with lethal time50 24,5 hour and mortality by 97,5% inhibit the growth of the population, shrinkage weight of rice, and lethal dose95 by 4,5%.

Abstract

Mung bean (Phaseolus radiatus L.) is one of the food commodities which is quite important for human because its nutrients contains such as protein, vitamin B1 and carbohydrate. Mung bean storage has many problem such as the damage caused by Callosobruchus chinensis L.. The damage by C. chinensis L. on mung bean could reach up to 70%. The use of Piper aduncum L. leaf as an alternative insecticide for fumigant is expected to become more effective and environmentally. This study aims to find and obtained the best concentration of P. aduncum L. leaf powder to controlling C. chinensis L. in mung bean storage. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pests Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau from Febuary to May 2015. This research using completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment used of some concentration of  P. aduncum L. leaf powder are; 0 g/ 50 g mung beans, 1 g/ 50 g mung beans, 3 g/ 50 g mung beans and 5 g/ 50 g mung beans. The result of this study is the concentration of 5 g/ 50 g mung beans better, because it was able to     C. chinensis L. mortality to 82%.

Abstract

Parasitoids is one of natural enemies that have the potential to be developed and play a role in pests control Setothosea asigna van Eecke on oil palm plants in the field. The pests high attacks intensity S. asigna effect on the production of palm oil. The role of parasitoids in the field reduce the existence of pests S. asigna so that palm oil plant damage could be reduced. This study attempts to find out the attack intensity larva S. asigna and the form parasitoids associated with larva S. asigna. The study has carried out on PT. X Ukui Village, Ukui District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province and Laboratory of Plants Pest Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. This research is a survey with a method of purposive sampling on locations which the most be attacked by S. asigna with heavy attack criteria, consisting of 3 sample plants, location on each 10%, 9 plants so that obtained 27 sample plants. The research results show the number of attack intensity is 37%. The number S. asigna 4,59 each midrib. Parasitoids associated with larva S. asigna has not been found.
