Abstract

AbstractThis research focused on increasing students’ speaking ability by using Information Gap Activity. This research was conducted to the eleventh grade students of SMA Santo Paulus Pontianak in Academic Year 2013/2014. The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of Information Gap Activity in improving the students’ speaking ability. Since the purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of a technique, the researcher decided to conduct Pre – Experimental research with pre – test post – test model. The data were collected through speaking performance of pre – test and post – test. Then, they were analyzed by using formula of mean score, effect size, and t – test.The finding showed that the students’ speaking ability improved. Through the results of the calculations above, it can be concluded that Information Gap Activity is effective in improving the speaking ability of students of SMA Santo Paulus Pontianak in academic year 2013 / 2014. Keywords: Information Gap Activity, Speaking Ability

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate how well Group work technique can improve students’ reading comprehension to the eight grade students of MTs Al Muhajirin.To collect the data, the writer used comprehension test, observation checklist table, and field notes. The treatments took two cycles. The participant of this research is the students in eight grade students especially class VIII of MTs Al Muhajirin Rasau Jaya in academic 2014/2015, which consist of 22 students.Based on the achievement test’s result, the researcher discovered a good mark that was shown by the scores of the students from  cycle to cycle was increases. The mean score of the first cycle was 61.36 and the second cycle was 71.81.The research findings of the classroom action research were satisfying. All the indicators of success had been fulfilled. Students’ mean score increased and teaching learning process become better. Group Work helps students in understanding the text. Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to observe the correlation between students’ motivation and their English learning achievement at the Eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Sambas in academic year 2016/2017. The sample of this study was the 38 students in class VIIIA. The English learning achievement in this study refers to the students’ English learning score. Based on the aim of the research, the researcher formulated study with correlational study. The students’ motivation score was obtained from questionnaire administered in the class. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items. This questionnaire was adopted from Gardner’s AMTB about motivation questionnaire for learners. For the students’ English learning score, the researcher got it through documentation from the English teacher. This English learning score was obtained from the students’ midterm test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment in the program SPSS 16. The result from the calculation showed that the value of is -0.26. The researcher then compared it with at the significant degree 5% (0.355), the correlation between students’ motivation and their English learning achievement is negative ( : = -0.26 < 0.355). As a result, the alternative hypothesis which states that “there is correlation between X variable and Y variable” is rejected. Keywords: Correlation, Students’ motivation, English Language Achievement

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed at developing “ALCon-Pro”. It is a teaching method to develop authentic local content integrated with Project Based Learning (PBL) in English teaching and learning process based on the implementation of Curriculum 2013. The research is conducted in Instructional System Design (ISD) which adapts ADDIE model by McGriff (2000). The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Singkawang and 21 students in grade X Science participated for the research. The research follows five phases in developing ALCon-Pro: analyzing the need, designing the draft, developing the method and activities, implementing the method, and evaluating the method. The implementation resulted that ALCon-Pro method can be used for English teaching and learning inside or outside the classroom. In evaluation phase, the SME and local content experts validate the usability and feasibility of the product as a method of English teaching and learning. Key words: ALCon-Pro, Project Based Learning, Teaching and Learning. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan “ALCon-Pro”, metode pengajaran yang mengembangkan muatan lokal yang otentik terintegrasi dengan pembelajaran berbasis proyek (PBL) dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris berdasarkan implementasi Kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain sistem instruksional (ISD) yang mengadaptasi model ADDIE oleh McGriff (2000) yang dilaksanakan di SMAN 1 Singkawang. Ada 21 siswa dari kelas X MIA sebagai subjek penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan lima fase dalam mengembangkan metode ALCon-Pro sebagai metode pengajaran dan pembelajaran; menganalisis keperluan kegiatan pembelajaran siswa dan analisis konten, mendisain draf, mengembangkan, mengimplementasi dan mengevaluasi metode. Pada tahap implementasi menghasilkan bahwa metode ALCon-Pro dapat digunakan untuk pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di dalam dan di luar kelas. Pada fase evaluasi, ahli materi pembelajaran dan ahli muatan lokal memvalidasi dan mengesahkan bahwa metode ALCon-Pro dapat digunakan sebagai metode pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Abstract

 AbstractThe aim of this research was (1) to find out the target needs and learning needs of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 05 Pontianak, (2) to find out the appropriate design of narrative text material for the eleventh grade students of SMAN 05 Pontianak. The type of this research was Delopmental research. The procedures were adapted from ADD Model proposed by Hannafin Peck. ADD stands for Analyze, Design and Develop. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 05 Pontianak. The model of MacroTense is learning pack which consisted of 3 main menus namely Unit 1, Unit 2 and Extra. Each menu contained materials which supported the lesson that is talking about narrative text as the main topic within the lesson. The combination of the menus were expected to be able to fulfill the students and the teacher needs in learning the topic. Moreover, narrative text material was designed to enhance the students’ motivation, and interest in learning the topic. Narrative text material with its features help the students to improve their basic knowledge about the topic and ease them to understand the topic into the better. Using Narrative text material creates students into independent, self-directed and discipline learners to analyze, collect, and interpret the knowledge or information of the lesson. Using MacroTense helps the teacher to enrich his/her teaching materials regarding the topic as well as replace the text book in traditional teaching. Keywords: Narrative Text, Powerpoint, ADD Model.

Abstract

AbstractMany types of learning strategies can be used by the language learners to make the learning process running well. However, in doing the practice the learners are identified limited types of learning strategies and it makes them face many problems in learning. The aims of the study is to find the typical learning strategies used by the Alumnus of English Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty Tanjungpura University in speaking English. The result of the study showed that the alumnus of English Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty Tanjungpura University used singing english song, exploring a book, and  watching western movies as the activities to employ her speaking skill and from that activity she can develop her speaking skill. Thus, the learner of English Department are suggested to ap  ply many strategies. Abstract

Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara memainkan permainan digital dan hasil pembelajaran bahasa Inggris siswa di kelas delapan SMP Bawari Pontianak tahun akademik 2012-2013. Penelitian ini melibatkan 35 siswa kelas delapan (VII B). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Data yang menjadi perbandingan nya yaitu berupa kuesioner dan hasil belajar siswa yang berasal dari guru yang mengajar. Kuesioner yang diberikan pada siswa terdiri dari 25 pertanyaan. Nilai hubungan antara dua variable ini di hitung dengan menggunakan rumus Person Product Moment. Adapun nilai dari analisis data tersebut adalah 0,86 yang berata memiliki korelasi yang sangat tinggi. Kemampuan bahasa yang dominan adalah kemampuan membaca. Ditemukan 11 siswa dengan kemampuan membaca di atas rata-rata nilai 70. Kata Kunci: Permainan Basis Digital, Hasil Pembelajaran Abstract:The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation between playing digital game and students English learning achievement for the eighth grade students of SMP Bawari Pontianak in Academic Year 2012 2013. This research involved 35 students of eighth grade (VIII B). This research was designed in the form of descriptive research therefore; the data of this research were obtained by administering the questionnaire and students English learning achievement score taken from the English teachers handbook. The questionnaire tested on 35 students with 25 questions. This research used Person Product Moment formula to see the correlation value. The result of analyzing data found that the correlation between playing digital game and their English learning achievement score were 0.86 which categorized by high correlation. The most dominant skill acquired is Reading skill. Based on the finding, it is found that there were 11 students got high level (above 70) deals with students response score and the rest of them are below 70. Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan permasalahan yang ditemukan selama proses belajar mengajar di kelas IX A SMP Negeri 3 Mukok, khususnya tentang pemahaman siswa terhadap isi teks. Permasalahan yang ditemukan adalah siswa tidak dapat menemukan pikiran utama dalam setiap paragraph sehingga pada akhirnya siswa juga tidak bisa membuat kesimpulan dari seluruh isi bacaan. Pada penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan WH-Questions untuk membimbing siswa meningkatkan pemahaman terhadap isi bacaan. Model penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 24 orang siswa kelas IX A SMP Negeri 3 Mukok Tahun Pelajaran 2012-2013. Data diperoleh dari hasil evaluasi setelah selesai melaksanakan siklus 1 dan siklus 2, observasi juga dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui motivasi siswa dalam mengikuti proses belajar mengajar khususnya dalam pemahaman bacaan melalui WH-Questions. Nilai rata-rata perolehan siswa menunjukan adanya peningkatan dari 57,50 menjadi 73,75 dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengajaran teks bacaan menggunakan WH-Questions dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap isi bacaan. Kata kunci: Teknik mengajar, Penelitian tindakan kelas, Pemahaman bacaan. ABSTRACT This research was conducted based on the problems which were found in the process of teaching-learning reading comprehension on narrative text by the ninth grade class A students of SMP Negeri 3 Mukok. The problems were that they were could not find main ideas of a paragraph and made summary of an entire text. The research was guided by a conceptual framework leading to the using WH-questions to improve their comprehension on narrative text. The research type was an Action Research. The subject consisted of 24 Students of the Ninth Grade Class A of SMPN 3 Mukok in Academic Year 2012-2013. The research data were collected using test (test after first treatment and test after the second treatment), observation for collecting data on students motivation in comprehending the reading text especially in reading comprehension on narrative text through WH-Question. The data of this research were taken from the students score in two cycles and they were collected by using students worksheet, observation checklist table, and field note. The mean score increased from 57.50 to 73.75. It concluded that teaching narrative text through WH-Questions could improve students reading comprehension. Abstract

AbstractThis research entitled “Improving Students’ Writing Narrative Text Through Spin A Story Writing Prompt” was purpose to investigate how the use of Spin A Story Writing Prompt could improve students’ writing in narrative text to the eighth grade students of SMP Islamiyah Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. The method used is classroom action research. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students in class VIII A. The result showed that students’ problems in writing narrative text such as writing narrative text based on the generic structure, writing narrative text based on the correct language features in writing narrative text and students’ attention to follow the lesson had been solved by using Spin A Story Writing Prompt as the teaching media. In collecting the data, the writer used observation checklist table, field note, and writing test. The research approach used in this research was cooperative learning. Based on the results, it can be concluded that: the Spin A Story Writing Prompt could be used as a media to improve students’ writing on narrative text such as generic structure, language features in writing narrative text and students’ attention to follow the lesson. Keywords : Improving, Narrative Text, Spin A Story Writing Prompt

Abstract

Abstract: This research is about English Friendly 5 CD’s towards students’ vocabulary mastery to the fifth year students of SDS Abdi Agape PontianakThe aim of the present research is to find out whether English Friendly 5 CD’s towards students’ vocabulary mastery effective or not.The method of this research was a Pre-experimental Study. The population was 43 students and 20 students of class B was a sample.The technique of data collecting was measurement and the tool of collecting data was a test in form of  a matching test. From the computation, it can be concluded that the teaching of vocabulary through Multimedia of English Friendly 5 CD’swas “highly effective”. Therefore, the null hypothesis that says “English Friendly 5 CD’s was not effective towards students’ vocabulary mastery” was rejected. And the alternative hypothesis that says “English Friendly 5 CD’s was effective towards students’ vocabulary mastery” was accepted. Metode penelitian ini adalah studi Pra-eksperimental. Populasi adalah 43 siswa dan 20 siswa dari kelas B sebagai sampel . Teknik pengumpulan data adalah pengukuran dan alat pengumpulan data adalah tes dalam bentuk tes pencocokan. Dari perhitungan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengajaran kosakata melalui Multimedia English Friendly 5 CD’s " adalah sangat efektif ". Oleh karena itu, hipotesis nol yang mengatakan "English Friendly 5 CD’s itu tidak efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa " ditolak. Dan hipotesis alternatif yang mengatakan" English Friendly 5 CD’s adalah efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa" diterima.     Kata Kunci: Penguasaan kosakata, penelitian pra-experimen, multimedia. Â
