Abstract

A preliminary survey had been done on the change of C odollam fruits colour and size followed by the involve of some insects in those decomposition process. Survey take place at Pagar Alam, South Sumatera . on the end of 2014. Ten centimeters length of fruit with green colour and black spots fall down to ground after mature phase. Two Hymenoptera's found on the fruits that could be little black ant and litlle ichneumonid or small wasp. The fruit size looks chage to be smaller and the colour change to be red. These colour tend to change to brown and the outer layer released then. Seed in brown husk exposed to ground. Abstract

The major cause of a spermatogenetic process disorder in testis is free radical. One of the traditional medicines commonly used as an aphrodisiac is Kemangi plant. Rosary Basil leaf (Ocimum americanum L.), Indonesian name is Kemangi, contains active substances, such as flavonoid, saponin, tannin, and triterpenoid/steroid which is antioxidant and fertility. The purpose of the present research was to analyze the effect of testis weight, diameter, epithelium thickness, morphology, and spermatozoa amount of male white mouse (Rattus norvegicus) after feeding fractions of Kemangi leaf (Ocimum americanum L.) This study was experimental with a posttest-only control group design. The research sample size was 24 furrow male white mice Sprague Dawley, 60-74 days old. They were divided into 4 treatment groups, each being fed the fractions of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water-ethanol of Kemangi leaf at a dosage of 100 mg/mouse/day, compared to CMC 1% for the control group for 36 days, and then a dissection was done to take out secreted substances and to examine the histology of testis. The result showed that there were increases of testis weight in the treatment group as compared to that of the control (p=0.018). In addition, there were increases in diameter and thickness of seminiferous tubule epithelium of testis, in the morphology of abnormal sperm (p=0.000), and in spermatozoa amount (p=0.020). Fractions of Kemangi leaf can increase testis weight, diameter, and epithelium thickness, morphology, and spermatozoa amount of furrow male white mice Sprague Dawley, particularly the fraction of ethyl acetate.

Abstract

Infertility is one of the reproductive problems that may affect both male and female. In a male, the occurrence of reproductive problems may be due to abnormal spermatogenesis processes and anatomic disorder. Kemangi leaves are an aphrodisiac it contains some secondary metabolites like flavonoid, steroid, tannin, and saponin. The objective of the present research was to determine the effect of feeding fractions of kemangi leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) on the epididymis weight, diameter, and epithelial thickness and the spermatozoa motility and viability of white male rat (Rattus norvegicus). The research was an experimental one, with posttest only group design. The research design used a Completely Random Design. The research sample consisted of 24 furrow white male mice Sprague Dawley, 60-74 days old, divided to control group, a fraction of n-hexane, a fraction of ethyl acetate, and a fraction of water-ethanol. The dosage used for the treatment group was 100 mg/kgBB/day, and the control group was given CMC 1%. The result of data analysis by using a One-Way Anova test showed that there were increases in the weight and diameter of the epididymis in the treatment group as compared to that of the control group (p=0,000). Likewise, both epididymis epithelium thickness and spermatozoa viability in the treatment group increased as compared to that of the control group (p=0.001), while spermatozoa motility was p=0,002. It could be concluded that the fractions of kemangi leaves increased the weight, diameter, and epithelium thickness of epididymis and spermatozoa motility and viability in-furrow white male rat Sprague Dawley.

Abstract

Inflamasi merupakan suatu respon protektif normal terhadap luka jaringan yang disebabkan oleh trauma fisik, zat kimia yang merusak, atau zat-zat mikrobiologik. Pengurangan peradangan atau respon inflamasi menggunakan obat golongan steroid dan antiinflamasi non steroid (AINS). Tujuan penelitiaan adalah untuk mengetahui efek antiinflamasi fraksi n-heksan, fraksi etil asetat, dan fraksi metanol air dari ekstrak metanol daun andong (Cordyline fruticosa L) pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) galur Spraque Dawley yang diinduksi dengan karagenin 1%. Subyek penelitian adalah 30 ekor tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) galur Spraque Dawley yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok. Kelompok I adalah plasebo yang diberi CMC 1%, kelompok 2 diberi fraksi nheksan, kelompok 3 diberi fraksi etil asetat, kelompok 4 diberi fraksi metanol air masing-masing dengan dosis 200 mg/kgBB, dan kelompok 5 diberi Meloxicam sebagai kontrol positif. Parameter efek antiinflamasi berupa volume edema kaki tikus dan penghitungan jumlah neutrofil pada sediaan hapus darah tepi. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan menggunakan program SPSS versi 20. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fraksi n-heksan daun andong  mempunyai efek antiinflamasi lebih aktif atau kuat dibandingkan dengan fraksi etil asetat dan metanol air daun andong (Cordyline fruticosa L), tidak berbeda nyata dibandingkan Meloxicam pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) galur Spraque Dawley, fraksi n-heksan daun andong (Cordyline fruticosa L) mengandung golongan senyawa fenol dan steroid terpenoid yang diduga berperan dalam aktivitas antiinflamasi, dan potensi antiinflamasi fraksi etil asetat dan metanol air daun andong (Cordyline fruticosa L) lebih kecil dibandingkan dengan Meloxicam pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) galur Spraque Dawley.

Abstract

Tingkat infertilitas laki-laki diseluruh dunia berkisar 2,5 sampai 12% dan lebih dari 30 juta pria dunia tidak subur. WHO menyatakan lebih dari 50% penyebab infertlitas pihak pria yang terbesar disebabkan faktor semen. Buah kurma ajwa (Phoenix dactylifera) mampu mengobati infertilitas karena memiliki aktivitas sebagai antioksidan dan gonadotropik. Tujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak dan fraksi metanol air kurma ajwa terhadap berat epididimis, tebal epitel epididimis dan morfologi spermatozoa pada tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus).Penelitian ini eksperimental menggunakan rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 25 sampel tikus putih jantan dengan diberi perlakuan ekstak, fraksi metanol air kurma ajwa dan CMC 1% (kontrol) selama 35 hari, selanjutnya di ambil organ epididimisnya untuk dilakukan penimbangan organ, histologi dan penambilan semen. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan berat epididimis, tebal epitel epididimis dan morfologi spermatozoa dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. Fraksi metanol air dengan dosis 300mg/kgBB mempunyai pengaruh paling kuat. Disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak dan fraksi metanol air kurma ajwa (Phoenix dactylifera) dapat meningkatkan berat, histologi epididimis dan morfologi spermatozoa.

Abstract

Partisipasi laki-laki dalam KB masih relatif rendah bila dibandingkan dengan keikutsertaan perempuan. Salah satu tanaman obat tradisional yang digunakan adalah  bunga kembang sepatu yang bersifat antifertilitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh ekstrak bunga kembang sepatu  terhadap jumlah, motilitas, morfologi dan viabilitas spermatozoa tikus jantan (Rattus norvegicus). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan 25 tikus jantan strain Sprague Dawley usia 60-70 hari dengan berat badan 200-210 gram. Lama perlakuan 30 hari dengan dosis 200 mg/kgBB, 300 mg/kgBB, 400 mg/kgBB. Data disajikan dalam bentuk tabel dan diagram serta narasi untuk  menginterpretasikan data tersebut. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya penurunan jumlah sperma pada kelompok perlakuan dibanding kelompok kontrol (p=0,000), terjadi penurunan motilitas sperma (p=0,001), terjadi peningkatan morfologi abnormal (p=0,000), dan terjadi penurunan viabilitas spermatozoa antara kelompok perlakuan dibanding kelompok kontrol (p=0,000). Dapat disimpulkan  bahwa ada perbedaan bermakna dari pengaruh ekstrak bunga kembang sepatu terhadap jumlah, motilitas, morfologi, viabilitas spermatozoa.

Abstract

Plants have been the chief source of compounds of medicine for thousand of years. Plants are also the source ofmany medicines for the majority of the world’s population. The role of biotechnology is very important for multiplying,conserving the spesies, and enhancing the production of secondary metabolites. Endophytic are microbes thatinhabit plants are currently considered to be a wellspring of novel secondary metabolites offering the potensial formedical and industrial exploitation. Plants with ethnobotanical history, for example sambiloto (Andographispaniculata Nees) are likely candidates for finding bioactive compounds. Isolation begin with cultivation of Aspergillusflavus fungi in 2 liter of Potato Dextrose Broth media for four weeks. Media is extracted into the solvent n-hexaneand ethylacetate following by evaporation. Ethylacetate extracts were separated by chromatography techniquesin order to get pure compound in the form of white crystal. Phytochemical tests showed that the isolated compoundis alkaloid. The molecular structure of the isolated compound was determined based on spectroscopic data,including UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HMQC, and HMBC spectrum. The compound was determined as7-hydroxypiranopiridin-4-on with molecule formula C8H7NO2 (Mr=149). The compound has antimalarial activityagainst Plasmodium falciparum 3D7, with IC50 values 0,201 μM.

Abstract

Beluntas leaves are useful as a treatment for flour albus and discharge caused by fungi. This study aims to find the anti-fungal activity of fraction of beluntas (Pluchea indica Lees) leaf extract against Candida albicans. This research is an in vitro experimental study using the Posttest-only Control Group Design study design. Methanol extract is obtained through maceration process while the fraction is through liquid-liquid fractionation. The most active fraction is determined by the antifungal activity test. The most active fractions with concentrations of 10%, 5%, 2.5%, 1.25%, 0.625% and the diameter of the inhibition zone 0.3125% were measured by the liquid dilution method. Equivalence with drugs is assessed through regression analysis, then the class of active compounds is determined through bioautographic testing using thin layer chromatography. The research results obtained methanol-fraction-water can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans while the methanol extract, n-hexane and ethyl acetate do not inhibit. The methanol fraction of water which has inhibition zone diameters starts at a concentration of 0.3125% with an average diameter of 7.34 mm and at a concentration of 10% the largest diameter of 17.10 mm is obtained. Through the diluent liquid and the KHM solid fraction from the methanol-water fraction is inhibited at a concentration of 0.3125%. Equivalence test shows that 1 mg / ml of ketoconazole is equivalent to 39,561 mg / ml of methanol-water fraction of beluntas leaves. Compounds that inhibit fungi are thought to be active groups of flavonoid and alkaloid compounds. The methanol-water fraction of beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica Lees) has antifungal activity against Candida albicans in vitro.

Abstract

The participation of men in family planning is still relatively low when compared to the participation of women. One of the traditional medicinal plants used is antifertility hibiscus flowers. This study aims to examine the effect of hibiscus flower extract on the number, motility, morphology and viability of spermatozoa of male rats (Rattus norvegicus). This research is an experimental study using a completely randomized design (CRD). The sample in this study used 25 male Sprague Dawley strains aged 60-70 days with a body weight of 200-210 grams. Duration of treatment for 30 days at a dose of 200 mg / kg, 300 mg / kg, 400 mg / kg. Data is presented in the form of tables and diagrams and narration to interpret the data. The results of this study indicate a decrease in sperm count in the treatment group compared to the control group (p = 0,000), a decrease in sperm motility (p = 0.001), an abnormal morphological increase (p = 0,000), and a decrease in spermatozoa viability between the treatment groups compared to the group control (p = 0,000). It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the effect of hibiscus flower extract on the number, motility, morphology, viability of spermatozoa.

Abstract

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn. is one of the medicinal plants in Indonesia which is used as male contraception. Hibiscus flowers contain flavonoids which can reduce testosterone. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hibiscus flower extract on epididymal weight, cauda epididymal epithelial thickness, prostate weight and seminal vesicle of male rats. This research is an experimental study using a completely randomized design (CRD). The sample in this study used 25 male Sprague Dawley® strains aged 60-70 days with a body weight of 200-210 grams. The treatment dose is 200 mg / kg, 300 mg / kg, 400 mg / kg, 500 mg / kg for 30 days. The data is presented in tabular form and narrative to interpret the data. The results showed a decrease in epididymal weight in the treatment group compared to the control group (p = 0,000), there was also a thick shrinkage of the cauda epididymal epithelium (p = 0.021), a decrease in prostate weight and seminal vesicles between the treatment group versus the control group (p = 0.001). It can be concluded that there is an effect of hibiscus flower extract on the epididymis, prostate and seminal vesicles. The influence is likely due to the chemical content that is in hibiscus flowers that are antifertility.
