Abstract

The fermentation of cocoa beans is an important part of cocoa processing. Fermentation of cocoa beans increases the quality and price of the beans and the resultant cocoa. Although the fermentation of cocoa beans can increase the quality and income of cocoa farming, few farmers in Indonesia implement this fermentation process. This research therefore, focuses on the way Indonesian farmers assess whether or not to ferment their cocoa beans. A total of 284 cocoa farmers were sampled in Central Sulawesi Indonesia. The results showed that out of the more than 50% of farmers who did not ferment their cocoa beans, a majority were simply not interested in increasing the quality of the resultant cocoa. The quality of cocoa beans produced from smallholder plantations, therefore, was continually poor. The decision of cocoa farmers to ferment their cocoa beans, meanwhile, was significantly affected by the gender, age and education level of the head of the household, the number of productive family members, the quantity of cocoa bean production, and the resultant price of the fermented cocoa beans in the market. The resultant price of the fermented cocoa was the most dominant factor.

Abstract

The travel agency industry has now entered a new chapter. Since the development and proliferation of online travel agencies (OTAs) the market share of conventional travel agencies has been eroded.  Even so, this happened the other way around in conventional travel agencies partnering with PT Garuda Indonesia Semarang Branch Office. The strategy of developing relationships in the supply chain is alleged to be able to improve the performance of companies and partners. Therefore, this case study research was conducted to analyze the effect of service quality and communication on the quality of supply chain relationships and their implications for voluntary performance at PT Garuda Indonesia Semarang Branch Office. As a result, there is a significant positive relationship for communication variables to voluntary performance and service quality to relationship quality.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of various insecticides against beet armyworm pest (S.exigua) and onion yield. The experiment were conducted in Poso district and arranged using arandomized block design (RBD) with two-factor treatment and tree replicates each. The first factorwas the type of Insecticides (I) consists of three treatments and one control, namely: (1) Noinsecticides (I0), (2) botanical insecticides (neem leaf extract) 50 g/l of water (I1). (3) Biologicalinsecticides, the fungus Beauveria bassiana 10 g/l of water (I2) and (4) chemical insecticides,Klensect 200 EC 1 ml/l of water (I3). The second factor was onion varieties composed of: (1) Bima(V1) and (2) Tinombo (V2) vartieties. Variabel measured included: S.exigua population density, percentage of attacks of S.exigua, and dry weight of tuber. The results showed that insecticidestreatment significantly affected the population density and S.exigua attacks on onion crops in thedistrict of Poso. The effectiveness of chemical and botanical insecticides on suppressing thepopulation density and the attack of S. exigua were nearly similar and significantly higher than thatof biological insecticide. The population density and percentage of S. exigua attacks did not differsignificantly in both varieties but dry weight of tuber was higher in Bima variety. There was nointeraction effect between insecticides and onion variety on population density and attackpercentage of S. exigua as well as on tuber weight.Key words: Insecticides, onion, S. exigua variety, and yield.

Abstract

Kiwi fruit takes about 25 weeks from flower bloom until it reaches physiological maturity, so the time required to produce kiwi seeds from seeds in large quantities and uniform is very long. Tissue culture is one method that can be used to obtain a lot of kiwi seeds and uniforms with large quantities in a faster time. The purpose of this study was to examine various types of media compaction materials for the growth of kiwi shoots in vitro. This study was prepared based on Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 5 treatments and repeated 4 times so that there were 20 experimental units, each experiment using 2 explants so that there are 40 eksplan. The treatments were: MA 1: Agar Swallow Globe 8 g / l, MA 2: Agar Swallow Globe 4 g / l + Agar Nutrijell 4 g / l, MA 3: Agar Swallow Globe 4 g / l + Agar Nutrijell 5 g / l, MA 4: Phytagel 2.2 g / l, MA 5: Agar Nutrijell 11 g / l. Observation variables are When shoots appear, Number of shoots, number of leaves, Number of Roots, number of root hair. The results showed Swallow Globe 4 g / l + Agar Nutrijell 4 g / l treatment gave the highest average number of shoots, the highest number of leaves and roots, this proved that the combination of Swallow Globe and Nutrijell agar gave a good condition for shoot growth kiwi plant.t.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to assess the influence of various seed handlings in light and without light.  Positive contribution in science and technology development is to increase effectiveness and efficiency of areca seed germination.  The experiment used a split plot design, with the main plot was light (with and without light) and seed handling as patch (seeds soaked in water for 2, 4, 6 days and seed wetted for 4, 6, 8 days).  Each treatment was replicated three times.  Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and 5% honestly significant difference. Dark condition accelerated areca seed germination (39.44% growth potential, 93.33% germination rate reached 90 days after planting and 63.33 days to germinate) and increased the number of root and shoot dry weight.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the characteristics of local mango plants based on their                       leaf morphology and anatomy.  The morphological observations were conducted in Funta                  Sindue,of Donggala district and Oloboju Sigi Biromaru of Sigi district while the anatomy was     determined in the Biotechnology Laboratory at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Tadulako University from January to April 2016. The morphological parameters observed were plant age, plant height, stem diameter, canopy diameter, canopy shape and stemcolor whilst the variable sof leaf  anatomy  were stomata size, epidermis size, stomata number, epidermis number, stomata density and stomata  index. The morphological and anatomical characters observed by a cluster analysis were described in  the form of a dendogram. The results of cluster analysis of both villages at a distance of    0540 resulted  in three accessions which are OB12, OB13 and OB15. The OB13 was found to have   highest stomata   index and stomata density while the OB12 has the lowest ones. The OB15 also has lowest stomata density. Keywords : Dendogram,  Mango, Morphology, Leaf anatomy.
