Abstract

Living in peace, harmony, and prosperity is definitely every human desire.  There are three factors in determining happiness in Hinduism, which are having a harmony to God, to other human being, and to nature, in which these are known as Tri Hita Karana. Tri Hita Karana theory is connected to Tri Mandala concept, which consists of Utama Mandala, Madya Mandala, and Nista Mandala. This research is aimed to further explore the concept of Tri Hita Karana, in the context of Agung Jagad Karana Temple in Surabaya. The methods that will be used in this research are both qualitative descriptive method. As a result, Agung Jagad Karana Temple in Surabaya has fully attained the concept of Tri Mandala, thus Tri Hita Karana theory has also been achieved in each of the temple’s architecture and interior, which means that it has also formed a balance relationship between human and God, human and other human being, as well as human and nature.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that cannot completely be cured. However, some symptoms can be treated with cognitive behavioral treatment and therapy. Occupational therapy is a special treatment that aims to help people with physical, mental, or cognitive disabilities to be more independent in various aspects of life. The method that will be used for this design is a group therapy method so that it is specifically for schizophrenics who have socially recovered. Patients who are declared socially cured are patients who are able to interact with other people and other groups. The activities of group therapy that will be carried out in this treatment are dancing, making crafts, and painting. The concept used in this design is "Friendly and Fun" where people with schizophrenia can mingle with each other and carry out various fun activities as a means of long-term therapy.

Abstract

The growth of the cosmetics industry in Indonesia nowdays was caused by the increasing lifestyle and public awareness, especially womens, that pays attention to their appearance and beautify themselves. Moreover, social media such as Facebook, Instagram and others are also some factors in this phenomenon. This issue brings up a new type of public figure who has the knowledge and skills in the beauty fields, both formal and self-taught educational backgrounds, known as the beauty vlogger. Surabaya Glam Squad (SbyGlamSquad) is a beauty vlogger community, and one of the beauty activist in Surabaya. Periodically, they often hold make-up or beauty class events and gatherings with fellow make-up lovers to build a sense of family and share the latest tips and information in the beauty industry, even though there is no special space for these activities. "The Beauty Playground" as the concept is a design solution that aims to create space designs that shows the characters of this community, supported with fun and aesthetic atmospheres from the details on the walls to the lightings, and to be able to accommodate the community activities. Especially, to increase the existance of the community not only through the social medias, exclusive community members and make-up lovers only, but also on the general public.

Abstract

The mass quantity of container materials usage as an alternative to housing and offices is increasingly popular in Indonesia, especially in East Java, Surabaya. As an innovation form for a new-build office by considering the concept, construction permits, and land. The concept of the M-Radio Surabaya office was considered interesting because it carries the concept of contemporary youth. So that the concept creates an interior that uses striking colors on the walls, and the application of unique furniture. This study aims to determine the effect of psychology of workers at the M-Radio Surabaya container station that reviewed based on the aspects of Well-Designed Space according to Sally Augustin, using descriptive qualitative methods. The results shows that the M-Radio office managed to pass almost all standards and gave positive influences on its workers.

Abstract

Reading habit become more unpopular over time. It makes people become accustomed to browse their reference in the internet instead of looking for that in the books. People’s perspectives toward local library also affecting the existence of local library itself. Library are interpreted as a place with stacks of books which exist in a intrusive environment. This is also happened at Archive and Library Bureau of Moluccas. This library don’t have supportive facilities such as WiFi, photocopy machine and self reading spots for visitors. This prompted the author to re-design the library by adding some supporting facilities which are not yet available in this library. The author applying The Simple Flashy concept to this additional development. The concept using natural lighting as the main lighting source, applying dynamic layout, geometric formation and also Moluccas traditional icon as local identity of this library. This design are created with expectation to attract people to come to this library.

Abstract

Feng shui is a form flow applied through experience and intuition for solving problems in interior design. Its application is often in opposition with the scientific study of interior design. The purpose of this research is to compare the form flow of Feng shui and the Interior Design theory. The results show that the two disciplines have different orientations in their methods of interior design. Feng shui is focused on the flow of qi energy whereas the scientific study of interior design is focused on fulfilling the comfort of the user. Although the two disciplines have different orientations, both have a similar purpose, which is to attract customers. Feng shui attempts to attract customers through presenting a good interior of a restaurant that is according to the Feng shui concept (colours that support qi energy) whereas the Interior Design discipline attracts customers by presenting an experience of an interesting atmosphere.

Abstract

The development ofmalls or shopping centers can be observed through the various facilities and functions that do not only serve as places to shop but also offer increasing modes of entertainment such as cinema theatres, fashion, food court, indoor playgrounds and exhibition spaces which are the results of a long evolution. The aim of this paper is to describe the development of the historical evolution ofmall, starting from the background of shopping processes until the early establishment of shopping centers and aspects of influence. These processes will continue to evolve in future.

Abstract

Banjar society consisted of the mixture of some tribe (Dayak, Java, maly, and Bugis) inhabiting region of South Kalimantan. Majority of Banjar society are Moslem. Result of culture from those Moslem religion system influence to some cultural aspect in physical. One of them is implement at some interior element of Bubungan Tinggi house (one of the eleven type of Banjar's house). Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Masyarakat Banjar terdiri dari campuran beberapa suku (Dayak, Jawa, Melayu, dan Bugis) yang mendiamai wilayah Kalimantan Selatan. Mayoritas masyarakat Banjar memeluk agama Islam. Hasil budaya dari sistem religi Islam tersebut mempengaruhi beberapa aspek budaya secara fisik. Salah satunya tercermin pada beberapa eleman interior rumah Bubungan Tinggi (salah satu dari sebelas jenis rumah adat Banjar). Kata kunci: pengaruh islam, interior, rumah bubungan tinggi.

Abstract

The Catholic Church adopts particular rules and meanings. Javanese culture also possesses rules, boundaries and meanings in building construction that includes space forming elements, facilities as well as other supportive elements. Inculturation of both these related cultures has to proceed in balance. Thus, comparisons must be drawn to be able to determine how far can a similar comprehension of meaning be achieved if inculturation of the Javanese culture and the Catholic church were to take place. Observation shows that not all the Javanese culture as an element of inculturation in the interior of the Catholic Church can be implemented physically because a similar comprehension of meaning would then be difficult and would contradict each other. Among the Javanese cultures that can be elements of inculturation in the interior of the Catholic church are in zoning, floor and ceiling elements, colour, the positioning of pews and furnitures for the leader. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Gereja Katolik memiliki peraturan-peraturan dan makna-makna tertentu, Budaya Jawa pun memiliki aturan, batasan, serta makna tersendiri baik dalam tatanan bangunan yang meliputi elemen pembentuk ruang, fasilitas, maupun pendukung lainnya. Sedangkan dalam inkulturasi kedua budaya yang saling berhubungan ini harus berjalan seiring. Oleh karena itu, akan dibandingkan kedua budaya tersebut untuk mengetahui sejauh mana kesesuaian makna yang dapat dicapai apabila terjadi inkulturasi Budaya Jawa dengan Gereja Katolik. Dari hasil perbandingan tersebut diketahui bahwa wujud fisik Budaya Jawa sebagai unsur inkulturasi interior Gereja Katolik tidak semuanya dapat diterapkan karena tidak adanya kesesuaian makna dan hubungan timbal balik antara keduanya. Wujud Budaya Jawa yang dapat dijadikan unsur inkulturasi dalam interior Gereja Katolik antara lain zoning, elemen pembentuk ruang lantai dan plafon, warna, tata letak bangku umat dan perabot untuk pemimpin. Abstract

The physical interior of the St Paulus Catholic Church could be seen as a representation of core values in the Catholic's Liturgy. Thus every aspect and detail of the design must compromise with the true meanings of the liturgy with no exceptions from the perception of architect’s as well as the priest’s point of view. Furthermore the semiotic approach will produce the true meaning of core values in the Catholic Liturgy by looking through the signs and sysmbols that can be observed from each physical aspect of the interior of the church The expected result of the approach is the connotation and denotation value, which will be observed based on the design basics. Although the shapes and forms of the interior seem different from common catholic churches, it is observed that the St. Paulus Catholic Chucrh liturgy apparatus such as the altar, the pastor stand, the cross, as well as the room layout, etc still reflect representations of the core liturgy values in semiotic ways. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia: Wujud fisik interior Gereja Katolik Santo Paulus Surabaya merupakan salah satu wujud dari nilai-nilai Liturgi Katolik. Oleh karena itu setiap unsur seharusnya disesuaikan dengan makna liturgi, walaupun dengan persepsi-persepi yang berbeda baik dari pihak arsitek maupun pastor paroki. Lebih lanjut, perwujudan nilai-nilai liturgi tersebut menjadi ‘tanda’ yang akan didekati secara semiotik sehingga ditemukan makna denotatif dan konotatifnya, yang ditinjau berdasarkan perwujudan nirmana. Secara semiotik perwujudan interior, seperti perwujudan bentuk lay out, elemen pembentuk ruang, dan perlengkapan liturgi di Gereja Katolik Santo Paulus Surabaya ini ternyata masih sesuai dengan nilai-nilai liturgi walaupun memiliki bentuk yang berbeda. Kata kunci: Interior Gereja Katolik, Pendekatan Semiotik.
