Abstract

This research is about study of language style used in English advertisements on Facebook. The aims of this research are: (1) to explain the kinds of language style that are mostly used in English advertisements in Facebook. (2) to explain the way of language style convey the messages of English advertisements in Facebook to the customer. This research uses qualitative research as method. The technique of collecting the data, the writer uses download, documentation and note taking technique. The using of stylistics in this research has some kinds that used on advertisements and also used to get the meaning of advertisements it selves. So that, the kinds of style of stylistics can explain the result as well. The result of this research is alliteration is mostly used in advertisement because it appears five times. Advertiser uses language style as message to attract customer to embellish advertisement itself. Key Words:   language style, advertisement, stylistics, Facebook.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are: (1) to explain the types of imperative sentence in Jangkat Isolect especiallyDanau Pauh village. (2) to describe the function of imperative sentence in Jangkat Isolect community; and (3) toexplain the structure of sentences (syntax) of imperative sentences that found in Jangkat Isolect. This research usesdescriptive qualitative method. A source of data in this research is imperative sentences in Jangkat Isolect community.This research is divided in three procedures; they are collection the data, analyzing the data, and presenting the data.In collecting the data, data are gathered by observation method and interview method. Meanwhile, the main techniquein collecting the data is eliciting technique, which is continued by several techniques, i.e. recording technique and notetechnique. The main technique in observation method is participant observational method which is continued byadvanced note technique. In analyzing the data, the research is done by using distributional method, translationalmethod, and referential method. The results of the analysis are provided by formal and informal methods.Keywords: Imperative, Sentence, Syntax, Isolect, Jangkat, Danau Pauh.

Abstract

The purposes of the research are 1) to classify the types of racism that appear in “Freedom Writers” film. 2) to find the effects felt by the characters in the “Freedom Writer” film.In conducting this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method, which is a research method that finds fundamental answers about racism and types of racism and explains the effects caused by racism's actions on the character of players in the film using the sociological approach.From the results of this research, the writer found 21 data that divided into type and effect, there are data consist of racism that occur in Freedom Writer Films and they have been grouped based on their type based on Wilson's E Charles theory (2005), they are 10 data Overt/ Individual Racism and 6 data Institutional racism. The writer also finds three of the five fundamental effects of racism there are 5 data based on the theory of Allport (1991) they are Anticuotin, Discrimination and Physical attack.From all the data given, it can be concludes that Individual racism is mostly appear in the film, and then followed by Institutional Racism and some effects that found in Freedom Writers film. Key Words: Effect of Racism, Sociological, Freedom Writers

Abstract

A verb is a language element used by the community in communication. There are various verbs formation applied in Muara Bungo especially Rantau Pandan dialect, like adding affixes to the verb and the processes occurred to the verb itself. In this study, the authors focused on verbs formation derived from nouns and adjectives. The process of affixation includes derivative and inflective affixes. For the data collection, the author applied listening and interview methods. The process of verb formation occurred on nouns and adjectives in speech or lingual data obtained were then analyzed and determined by applying translational analysis method. The verb formation process would be clearer when classes of the words found had been classified. The researcher found the verbs formation was from the process that occurred at the time of the formation of the verb. The affixation process in this study includes derivative and inflective affixes. The affixes are functioned for forming nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and numbers. The prefix ber- has form variations like ba- and be-. Prefix ma- has form variations like mang- and meny-. Prefix n- has form variations such as n- and ng- forms. The prefix te- has form variations such as ta-, tany-.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify kinds and meaning of conversational implicature, especially in President Candidates’ utterances based on context that used in the Indonesian President Candidates Debate on June 2014 in METROTV Television. The data is obtained by identifying the utterances that have implicature, in videos form that have been recorded via mobile phone and downloaded from social media site, it means to make easy in identifying. Then, the identified data are transcribed and analyzed by using Yule’s theory and some books that related and supported the theory. Next, the data analysis is presented by using informal method. The result of the analysis shows that President Candidates’ utterances in the debate contain two kinds on conversational implicature. They are, particularized conversational implicature, it is an implicature that can be assumed by knowing the specific context and also needs special knowledge of the listener. Then, generalized conversational implicature, it is an implicature that does not need context to assume the utterance.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to find out and to explain syntactic functions of “Tak” That Used by Javanese people in Rimbo Ilir District. This research has a several point of the functions of tak that used by Javanese people in Rimbo Ilir district. In conducting this research, the researcher uses desciptive qualitative method to do the research. While, to analyze the data, the reseacher used some theories from Randolf Quirk (1982) with the supported theory from Wedhawati (2001) and Palmer (2001). The data are found by recorded the conversation of Rimbo Ilir District. Based on the research, the researcher found three functions of Tak in Javanese language. First, the function of Tak as Personal Pronoun which generally used to the first singular person. The second, the function of Tak as Passive Markers for the first singular person which marked by affixes tak-, tak-I, tak-(a) ke, tak-ne, dan tak-ane. And the last function of tak as modal that followed by the verb after word Tak located after the word aku ‘I’.

Abstract

This research analyzes about word formation process of slang word used by gamers in the game online “Mobile Legend”. The purposes of this research are to classify and to analyze the types of word formation processes of slang words used by gamers using theory word formation process by Yule (2010) and Katamba (2005) and to describe the meaning of slang words used by gamers. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is formed of slang word in chat feature by gamers. In collecting the data, the researcher used participant observational method (SLC). Then, the analysis in this research, the researcher used agih method (distributional method) and used Segmenting Immediate Constituents Techniques (Teknik Bagi Unsur langsung/BUL) as the basic technique and delition technique (teknik lesap) as an advanced technique. The results of this research are stated as follows. Firstly, six types of word formation process in slang word used by gamers; abbreviation, acronym, borrowing, compounding, multiple process, and clipping. Then, the researcher found twelve slang words that utterances by gamer. While for word formation process, the type that dominant is compounding. In the meaning of slang word, the researcher only finds two from seven types of meaning by Leech (1981), they are: firstly social meaning and secondly connotative meaning.

Abstract

This study is about Syntactic Structure of Coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk. The purposes of this research are to find out the types of constituents to form syntactic structure of coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk and to explain the distribution of syntactic structure of coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk. The data is formed as sentences having syntactic structure of coordination on the English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk. Method of the research in this study is analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, the writer used documentation method. The steps to analyze the data are reading, collecting, and numbering the data. To analyze the data, the writer uses structural grammar. The main theory applied in this study is the theory of Syntax proposed by Francis (1957). The result of the analysis shows that: 1) the types of constituents being combined are categorized in three groups: words which are noun, adjective, verb, and to infinitive; phrase which is noun phrase; and clauses which are independent clause and dependent clause, and 2) the distribution of syntactic structures of coordination on The English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk analyzed based on its function in word, phrase and sentence: two functions in words: as head and as modifier; one function in phrase: as modifier and one function in sentence/clause: as predicate.

Abstract

This research investigates about phonetic differences between Rantau Keloyang Dialect and Sungai Beringin Dialect. The purpose of the research are (1) to know about the differences between Rantau Keloyang Dialect and Sungai Beringin Dialect in term of vowel, consonant and Diphthong and (2) to identify the differences of phoneme between Rantau Keloyang Dialect and Sungai Beringin Dialect. Data are gained through eliciting, participating and note taking technique. Data are analyzed based on theories proposed by Crowley (1987). The result of this research show that the differences of phoneme in both dialects are occurred due phonemic change, diphthong, and phonemic addition as well as deletion.the differences happen due to the influence of Jambinese language in rantau Keloyang dialect and Minangese Language for Sungai Beringin Dialect
