Abstract

The planning and designing of Game Developer and Otaku Centre in Yogyakarta is caused by local game development industry progress in Indonesia, including in Yogyakarta, which is not followed by availabilty of supporting facilities in professional game development as well as the unavailability of game development industry existence signifier. Game developer and Otaku centre is game developers workspace and Otaku gathering space that provides game development industry supporting facilities and involves Otaku as game player and game creator. There are several design issues in planning and designing of game developer and Otaku centre, (1) how the space programming concept of game developer and Otaku centre could support the game developers activities and stimulate the emergence of creative ideas, and (2) how the building appearance concept could be a signifier of local game developers existence and game characters. The approach used in planning and designing is Camp idiomatic aesthetic by using rubic cube as analogy of game characters that composed through the process of deformation, distortion, and duplication of material, in this case are rubic cube and game characters. Design decisions obtained through the analysis process are the design of game developers workspaces, co-working areas for game developers beginners, community meeting rooms, local game marketing rooms, and entertainment areas accommodated in a building complex with monumental scale and dynamic form.

Abstract

The background in designing Klayar Resort in Pacitan is based on the natural and cultural potential and the existed issue of cultural shift. The phenomenology architecture study is applied to grasp the phenomena where the architect acts as the instrument. The design goal is to represent a recreation place in creating a temporary living space, within the phenomenology comprehension of the physical and non-physical identification, where the place is capable of resurrecting the spirit of place with the identity that has already been formed. It is expected that the tourists can make a self-orientation and self-identification with the surrounding by understanding the actual phenomena. The design issues that will be completed covers the determination of society and tourists’ activities, the need and circulation space, the selection and processing of the site, the determination of design for each building in accordance with the phenomenology study. The obtained result will be a shelter in a form of a resort that is able to provide needs, both for the local society and the tourists, which is based on the existing phenomena, so that it will be able to represent the environment of the tourism area of Klayar beach. Keywords: Culture, Phenomenology Architecture, Tourism Area, Resort

Abstract

An explosion of hot mudflow occurred on May 29, 2006 in the mining area of Lapindo. Initially, the continuous mudflow only flooded the mining area of Lapindo but now it also flooded residential areas. Some families are now forced to live in the house paved with mud because of their inabilities to move and start a new life elsewhere. Many efforts have been done by the residents to continue their life still in the area affected by the mud. The study is to answer the challenges that human is able to live and work in conditions side by side with extreme environments, returned to live in places that have now been affected by the mudflow, the design of settlements to grow that is capable to accommodate the activities of living on land these Lapindo mud disaster. The method used is the principle of architecturial metabolisme. By using the principle of this metabolisme there are two important parts used they are: massive structure and adaptive system of metabolisme. Abstract

Abstract: Solo Craft Gallery Expo is an effort to accommodate the presence of creative industries joined in the craft subsector SMEs, and facilitating MICE activities in the city of Solo. The space is in the form of art galleries as well as a market for good packaging and expo space with diverse capacities. Combining the two functions of this building is a strategy for mutually supporting each other’s existences. Gallery space presented as cultural charms, while the expo space plays a role in bringing visitors. The government policies in synergy with the city’s potential efforts to support and facilitate the development of the city for more advances physical quality and human resources. This system if it is associated with the city of Solo as location, intersects with the image which is the city of culture. This last issue is associated with contemporary architecture, which is an effort to locate and revive the values of cultural and society, as a reflection of the city’s identity. In this case, the Javanese architecture which is the local architecture and result of the Javanese cultural community life, deserve to be appreciated to exist as a force of local architecture. The process of aligning the image of the building with the city image of the building of Solo Craft Gallery Expo, carried out through the application of contemporary Javanese Architecture. Keywords: MSME craft’s sub-sector, craft galleries, MICE facilities, contemporary Javanese architecture.

Abstract

Abstract: Rest Area of Solo – Semarang Toll Road in the manner of idiomatic aesthetic aspect of Ungaran City is a side-road public space which provides resting facilities for road user to regain their fitness, and also for location signing through identity emergence. For those purposes, there are several design problems to be resolved, (1) How the space programming concept of the rest area could optimally regain the user’s fitness through building design, (2) How the building appearance concept could give information about location and identity of Ungaran City itself. The design strategy for the rest area is regaining user’s fitness by emphasizing psychological and behavioral aspect which affect the space programming of the rest area design which is focusing in facilities provision based on the psychoanalysis and circulation arrangement based on the place-centered mapping theory. Ungaran City location signing could be implemented by using the idiomatic aesthetic aspect of Kitsch, which put Gedongsongo Temple as observation object and city identity in the shape of element function diversion, object transformation as well as object veneration. Keywords: Gedongsongo Temple, Kitsch Idiomatic Aesthetic Aspect, Psychoanalysis, Rest Area

Abstract

Abstract: Fine Arts Center with Neo Vernacular Architectural approach is an integrated institution for variety fine arts activities producing two and three dimensional works and the institution are equipped with infrastructure and facility with a design approach that is able to apply cultural, environmental, and local climate elements expressed in a modern architectural building. The underlying reason of the design of Fine Arts Center Building is many art potentials found in Surakarta, but they had no a representative public establishment to promote fine art development of Surakarta. The emerging design problem is how to plan and to design a building of Fine Arts Center in Surakarta by using Neo Vernacular Architectural approach. The Neo Vernacular Architecture is selected as an approach of preserving local architectural elements or characters and combined them with modern ones that are developing at present in order to attract visitors and artists to use the planned fine arst center.  Keywords: Fine Arts Center, Neo Vernacular Architecture, Potential and Fine Arts Activities

Abstract

Abstract : Underground music space in Surakarta planning was motivated by an underground music communities in Surakarta but the facilities to accommodate their activities was minim, it was happen because the publics do not like them because their image of underground peoples was negative. The purpose of this design in addition to facilitating the activities of the underground music community where they actually produce a creative things also to inform to public that the image of underground music communities are not negative, so that the perpetrators of underground music is not always behave badly, then there is a psychotherapy applied in the design of the underground music space. The method used in a n underground music space was the method of architectural design as well as methods of healing through with a psychotherapy. The results obtained by the design is able to accommodate the underground music activities to producing creation and psychotherapy system was applied indirectly (non-medical) through the design of buildings and building regulations in the underground music space for make a place who will be accepted by public and will therapy users. Keywords :  Architecture, underground music, underground music activity, non-medical psychotherapy

Abstract

Taman Satwa Taru Jurug is now lost its luster. Lack of maintenance makes the public interest to visit Taman Satwa Taru Jurug gradually receding. “Kebon Rojo” was a garden of Kasunanan Surakarta Palace formerly reserved for the royal family recreation area. Kebon Rojo applied the concept of “olah raga” (physical activities), olah rasa (psychic management), and “olah-olah (culinary process) which belonged to the application of customary values of Java. The Kebon Rojo concept is a potential that can be used as the first step of planning and design concept considerations of Kebon Rojo wildlife park in Surakarta. The zoo or wildlife park is closely related to nature, especially animals and plants, the ecological aspects in it cannot be ruled out. Therefore, the output of the design concept that is considering the ecological aspect is also very necessary. The design problem is how to apply the principle of the former Kebon Rojo, which can also apply the concept of Eco-Cultural Architecture based on the concept of sustainable, which not only includes something that is seen as physical entity such as environment and nature, but also include something that is not seen as a physical entity, such as culture, habits and customs. In planing process, it is essential to collect particular data, especially about the history, location, and also technical requirements of wildlife park. The design result is, “Kebon Rojo” wildlife park Surakarta can be a public space which can be used as a recreational area with the concept of education and conservation, which become a home for a wide range of plants and animals, which apply the concept of Eco-Cultural Architecture by implementing the values and principles of “Kebon Rojo” royal family garden., Keywords: Wildlife Park, Ecology, Cultural, Eco-Cultural Architecture

Abstract

Religion is the main aspect in constructing a discourse because the Javanese society in the 18th are thickly related with religiosity (Islam) as an inherited principle from the previous king. Mangkunegara I is an influential and interesting figure in the history of Javanese leadership relating to Islam. The medium used in the Islamization process by Mangkunegara I are through art, culture, customs and Islamic religious education. This study aims to show the Javanese Islamic discourse during the leadership of Mangkunegara I in the Babad Kemalon (Pakunegara)/ BK manuscript. The BK manuscript is a Javanese manuscript contains of 30 macapat songs which tells about the struggle of R.M. Said until entitled Mangkunegara I. this research uses the cultural studies paradigm. The theory used is the discourse theory proposed by Michael Foucault. The method used is a qualitative method and the data analysis techniques are done descriptively and interpretatively. This research belongs to library research. The result shows how the leadership of Mangkunegara I was able to show its discourse in Javanese Islam, which was manifested by the way of Mangkunegara I leaderships towards himself, his families, and people. As well as the Islamic base struggle which is always emphasized by Mangkunegara I.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk membedah relasi kuasa-pengetahuan di balik diskursus revivalisme kebudayaan Jawa Mangkunegara VIII. Mangkunegaran adalah sebuah istana yang pernah menjadi salah satu pusat pemerintahan Jawa pada masa kolonial. Mangkunegaran dipimpin oleh seorang Mangkunegara. Pasca kemerdekaan, Mangkunegaran tidak lebih dari sebuah bangunan yang menyimpan kisah-kisah kejayaan para leluhur. Mangkunegara VIII adalah pemimpin Mangkunegaraan pada saat itu. Ia harus menghadapi berbagai macam tekanan sosial, politik, dan ekonomi. Ia kehilangan kedudukan sebagai kepala pemerintahan Mangkunegaran. Oleh sebab itu, ia membutuhkan sesuatu untuk memulihkan kehormatannya, yaitu kebudayaan Jawa. Ada tiga pokok bahasan yang dikaji oleh tulisan ini. (1) Bagaimana bentuk wacana revivalisme kebudayaan Jawa Mangkunegara VIII pada era Republik? (2) Bagaimana fungsi wacana revivalisme kebudayaan Jawa Mangkunegara VIII? (3) Bagaimana makna wacana revivalisme kebudayaan Jawa Mangkunegara VIII? Wacana revivalisme kebudayaan Jawa Mangkunegara VIII berbentuk klaim bahwa ia adalah pengayom kebudayaan Jawa. Mangkunegaran merupakan pusat pelestarian kebudayaan Jawa. Mangkunegaran mempertunjukkan kesenian-kesenian khasnya kepada khalayak umum, para pejabat, dan tamu-tamu asing. Mangkunegaran menjadi pusat untuk menggali kesenian-kesenian khasnya yang pernah mati suri. Fungsi dari wacana ini adalah untuk memperoleh kehormatan dari abdi dalem, masyarakat, dan petinggi republik dalam bidang kebudayaan. Makna dari wacana ini bagi mereka yang terhegemoni adalah anggapan bahwa Mangkunegaran menyimpan harta dan warisan budaya yang adiluhung dari para leluhur.
