Abstract

The city of Padang produces approximately 600 tons of waste daily, which includes the categories of recyclable and non-recyclable waste. However, the percentage of waste that can be recycled is only about 17% and the rest must be heaped into end landfill every day. The category of recycled waste is counted as much as 65% is organic waste that is made into compost and 35% is both plastic and paper waste that is processed into other products. Maggot, which is the larva of the Black Soldier Fly, is an organic matter-decomposing agent that has better decomposition capabilities than other organisms. Maggot has biomass with high protein and fat content. Maggot farming is the most appropriate effort needed by the community today, because in addition to processing daily organic waste, it will also produce feed for livestock such as chicken, duck, fish, and bird. The farming process only requires simple technology and low cost, but is able to reduce the earth's waste load. The Andalas University community service team provided training on maggot farming to process organic waste from community households. The training was carried out using the Hybrid method, which is a combination of offline and online techniques with the same goal. The activity began with counseling on theoretical explanations, followed by both the farming practices and further program assisting. It hopes that the activity will be improved by other trainings such as Maggot’s processing into more valuable products, so that it can be packaged in such a way as to be marketed to the target purchasers.

Abstract

Social reason means because there are people or society who should benefit from what is done. The knowledge possessed by lecturers or academics must be used for society. One of the ways to make this knowledge accessible to the public is that lecturers or academics must write it down in the mass media. Mass media is a term that began to be used in the 1920s for a type of media designed to reach a very broad community, often shortened to media. An article published in the mass media is usually referred to as a popular article. The problem is that not every lecturer or academician is able to write popular articles to be published in the mass media. That is why training in writing popular articles was necessary and important to be held, including for lecturers or academics at Andalas University, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The training was attended by 72 registered lecturers from various faculties: Medicine, Pharmacy, Economics, Dentistry, Humanities, Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA), Public Health, Information Technology, Agriculture, Agricultural Technology, Nursing, Social and Political Sciences (ISIP), and Animal Science.

Abstract

Pasar Rabu Tani (PRT) is an online media for buying and selling transactions between producers and consumers of food needs, in the form of a digital shop on the site https://pasarrabutani.com/. PRT created an alternative form of the market by uniting small-scale food business actors in a cooperative called the Koperasi Pemasaran Mandiri dan Merdeka. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, PRT must shift the marketing system from conventional direct meetings between producers and consumers to a contextual system where producers and consumers cannot have direct meetings. Digital stores are one of the solutions for market media during a pandemic by utilizing information and communication technology products. The management of this market in terms of buying and selling is carried out by special operators who act as website managers, data administrators, and delivery personnel. The methods used were enhancing product quality by producers, socializing the online shopping system to consumers, and assisting operators of PRT in running a business. The digital strategy in the marketing and transactions of food products makes it easy for managers to obtain a database of potential producers and products and a database of possible consumer performance, both from within and outside West Sumatra. Digital stores that are displayed online, of course, reach consumers without space and time limits, which affects increasing producer income.

Abstract

This study discusses processes that changed Krui's damar agroforests. We use the idea of a 'capitalist squeeze', where factors of reproduction - drought, patterns of inheritance, and relations of local trade - combine with government and agribusiness pressures to explain these changes. We integrate historical data about damar agroforestry with information about recent deforestation and oil palm plantations throughout Krui. The results of participant observations, in-depth interviews with 12 informants, and focus group discussions with 3 groups show that previous collaborative efforts failed in protecting the Krui damar forest from extensive logging, mostly by the arrival of sawmills paying high prices for damar wood and smallholders’ preference for quick cash incomes from palm oil. Attention to the capitalist squeeze brings a focus to the need to create social relations that are just, inclusive, and egalitarian in the production of the resin itself
