Abstract

A freshwater generator is one of the auxiliary machines onboard which functions to convert seawater into freshwater by distilling it in a vacuum. Fresh water on the ship is very important for crew accommodation and also for the smooth work of machinery on ships that use freshwater for cooling media or for other purposes. The working principle of a freshwater generator is to separate the salt content in seawater by evaporating it in a vacuum so that the boiling point decreases and the water can evaporate below a temperature of 100oC. Problems and disturbances in the freshwater generator will affect the amount of freshwater production, therefore the condition of the auxiliary machine must be maintained. In this study, the authors used the fishbone analysis method to describe the factors that caused the vacuum that was not optimal and to find out the causes, impacts, and efforts made to overcome these problems. Based on the results of research that the author has done in MV. During the practice, Glovis Daylight concluded that the inadequate vacuum in the freshwater generator was caused by low ejector pump pressure, broken mechanical seal on the ejector pump, dirty strainer, and crust on the condenser and evaporator plates. The resulting impact is that the resulting freshwater production will decrease. Efforts to overcome this require routine maintenance according to the manual book, replacement of mechanical seals, cleaning strainer, and descaling of the condenser and evaporator plates.

The article analyze how the effect of Practical Experience, Knowledge of Job Opportunities, Teacher Professionalism and Work Motivation on Work Readiness at Vocational High School (SMK) Semarang Automotive mechanical expertise program. The research sample was taken using cluster proportional random sampling. Data were collected by questionnaires and documentation. Based on a preliminary test on grade XII students of Mechanical Automotive of SMK found that there were 36 valid problems and 18 invalid ones in the questionnaires. These problems were then refined and reduced proportionally to only 40 according to the existing sub-factors. After being e-tested the instrument produced a validity score higher that the table r (0.334). It meant that the instrument was valid and could be used as an appropriate tool for tests. The data were analyzed using percentage-descriptive analyses. The total effect of experiences in practices on the readiness of the students to enter the existing wok force was 2%, the total effect of students’ knowledge about employment was 3.04% and the total effect of teachers’ professionalism was 2.63%. Based on the above findings, it can be concluded that there were effects of experiences in academic practices, of students’ knowledge about the existing employment, of teacher professionalism and of students’ motivations for work on readiness to enter the work forces. Collectively, these four factors contributed 30.6% of the total effect, while the remaining 60.4% of the total effect was due to by some other factors not investigated in this research. Abstract

Nowadays, the Level II Technical Expert Seafarers' Training Program learning is conventional. This is burdensome for students due to the increased cost of living for students and needs to be revised. The coronavirus pandemic also limits direct learning. This article discusses the blended learning model for Seafarers Training Program for Level II Technical Experts. This research uses mixed methods. Quantitative methods are used to determine student responses to learning conditions. Student response data was taken using a questionnaire filled in by 41 students. Qualitative methods are used in finding the Blended Learning Model in the Level II Technical Seafarers Training Program Based on the needs of the Shipping Industry. In preparing the data model, the literature review includes blended learning, e-modules, and problem-based learning. The learning model is based on a literature review using the principles of education management. The descriptive analysis describes the model findings of Blended learning at Level II Technical Seafarers' Training. The findings in this article are that The MixPAM (Mixture Blended Problem-based And e-Module) model is a mixture of blended learning and problem-based learning e-module. The results show that the MixPAM model is hypothetically effective and efficient in improving student skills according to industry needs. Professional skills include ship engine repair maintenance (according to industry requirements), ship electrical, control, and ship management systems. Interpersonal skills include communication, teamwork, responsibility, and critical thinking.

Abstract

Abstract

Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang has one of the trainings for seafarers, ATT II training. The current education model is still considered not to provide optimal competence, so competency improvement is needed. This research was conducted by analyzing and discussing the current learning model with various parties. This study emphasizes a combination of learning after student officers have received the material face-to-face and in the laboratory. It is necessary to carry out learning using blended learning so that it is expected to improve practical competence. This research was conducted using research and development methods. The stages of the model made are factual models, theoretical models, hypothetical models, model trials, and final models. The research results on the factual model show that several aspects can still be improvised, namely in planning, organization, implementation, and monitoring (evaluation). Based on the development of existing theories, a blended learning model is compiled that can provide an innovative and valuable learning experience for students. Blended learning combined with experiential learning in the field, known as fieldwork programs, will encourage competencies and skills, especially psychomotor aspects. The trial test results show a significant difference with a sig value of 0.000, the initial group value was 79.71, and the final group was 85.10. The final model tested and validated by experts shows that blended learning can improve students' competence.
