Abstract

Perbedaan komunikasi gender dalam ruang publik dunia nyata dan ruang publik virtual menarik untuk diteliti. Hal itu dikarenakan banyak hal yang berbeda dalam komunikasi dunia nyata dan virtual. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui formalitas komunikasi dan ruang publik virtual gender dalam Facebook, Transformasi Komunikasi Nonverbal gender dalam Facebook dan Komunikasi tekstual gender melalui status Facebook. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi, sedangkan teknik pengumpulan data melalui FGD dan penelusuran akun. Informan penelitian adalah Pengguna Facebook laki-laki dan perempuan dari berbagai usia yang dipilih dengan teknik sampling purposif. Beberapa temuan penelitian ini yakni tidak ada perbedaan gender dalam pemanfaatan ruang publik virtual Facebook dikarenakan setiap orang memiliki peluang yang sama untuk berkomunikasi di Facebook; paralinguistik elektronik dalam Facebook tidak mampu mengganti komunikasi nonverbal dalam tatap muka, yang identik dengan komunikasi perempuan; Pengungkapan diri dalam komunikasi tekstual laki-laki berdimensi luas sedangkan perempuan berdimensi dalam.Kata kunci: Facebook, Komunikasi, Virtual, Gender

Abstract

Communication is a process of delivering information (messages, ideas) from one party to another. The form of communication activities used are to write, read, speak and listen to others speak. The purpose of this thesis is to know the function of family communication in the formation of teen personality in Sikumana Village, Maulafa District, Kupang City. This research was conducted in Sikumana Village, RT 014 / RW 006 by taking the object of family communication function in the formation of teen personality. This study examines the function of family communication in the formation of teen personality. This research type is descriptive qualitative, that is studying data obtained in field by using data in the form of written or oral sentence, behavior, phenomenon, event of knowledge or object of study with emphasize on understanding, thinking and perception of researcher. The informants of this study are the people who are determined by purposive sampling, that is selected based on certain considerations that informants are considered competent in answering the questions of researchers. Primary data was obtained through interviews with resource persons at the time of the study. Secondary data is obtained through literature study in the form of books, journals and so on that related to the problem under study.The results obtained, showing the function of family communication in the formation of teen personality refers to the daily activities of the family. The function of family communication used in this research there are 2 functions, namely Social Function and Cultural Function. Apparently in Sikumana Village, RT 014 / RW 006, teenage personality is often complained of the unruly personality. This happens because the lack of attention from parents because of busy with work, family communication functions that do not work properly, teenagers who become disobedient to parents, lazy school, so that children listen to more peers and spend more time with friends, friend. The conclusions of this study indicate that the family communication function that occurs in Kelurahan Sikumana using Social Functions and Cultural Functions in shaping teen personality and expectations of parents so that their teenagers can become a better person without damaging their future.

Abstract

This research aims to know transcendental communication in making soil stewpot ritual in Wolokoli Village of Bola Subdistrict of Sikka Regency. The object of this research is making soil stewpot rituals done by People in Wolokoli village. This is a phenomenological study with data collected technique through Observation, In-Depth Interview and Documentation. The result of this research showed that transcendental communication done by people in Wolokoli village of Bola Subdistrict of Sikka Regency. Transcendental communication of people in this village with God or ancestors’ soul or the other invisible strength believed by them happens in the ritual or in the production process of a traditional handicraft that known as unu tana Wolokoli. Especially for making the soil stewpot, a ritual held in the stone plate in one of the craftsman's houses corner and held by the craftsmen his own (woman only) helped by one of her family. This ritual held before makes the soil stewpot. Ritual held in the house corner aims to give offerings for ancestors’ souls in the hope of the ancestors’ souls always guide them in making soil stewpot process.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the accommodation in convergence, divergence and excessive accommodation in intercultural interactions that occur between the original residents of Kiuteta hamlet and new residents of Kiuteta hamlet and new residents of Timor Leste in the village of Noelbaki, Kupang. The theory used in this study is the theory of communication accommodation. This research is a type of qualitative research. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants in this study amounted to 11 people, namely : (1) five new residents of Timor Leste, (2) five residents of the Kiuteta Hamlet, (3) Noelbaki Village leader. The results of this study indicate that in conversation people have three choices namely convergence, divergence, and excessive accommodation. Intercultural interaction of communication accommodation of convergence between indigenous residents of the Kiuteta Hamlet and new residents of Timor Leste, namely mutual respect when speaking and adjusting language where new residents of Timor Leste must adjust, understand the language use of the native inhabitants of the Kiuteta Hamlet. Convergence choices occur in some new residents of Timor Leste who still maintain a culture (dialect) to highlight differences. An act of excessive accommodation at an interaction where new residents of Timor Leste are considered as rude citizens. Suggestions for achieving common goals in diversity the adaptation process should continue to be carried out by local residents and new residents of Timor Leste in Kiuteta hamlet.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the communication experience of Manggarai students when adapting to students from Kota Kupang at Nusa Cendana University and to analyze the strategies / stages that students go through and to find out and analyze the meanings of Manggarai students about the status of migrant students in Kupang City. This study uses the phenomenology method with the reason that this research departs from phenomena or experiences that occur in everyday life. By using potential informants as data sources, in this study the data is presented through in-depth interviews and non-participant observation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions / verification. This study uses the Accommodation Theory of Communication and Phenomenology Theory as a reference for data analysis. The results of the study based on the Communication Accommodation Theory that from communication experience revealed that, students from Manggarai who were studied conducted convergence by learning to use the dialect and the Kupang language. This is done in order to create effective communication where, the mutual understanding between communicators and communicants. Not only that, students from Manggarai also began to build social intimacy with Kupang City students. In addition, the form of strategies / stages of cultural adaptation carried out by students from Manggarai are students from Manggarai studied doing strategies or stages classified in the Readjustment stage (adaptation phase), and Resolution (resolution / adjustment phase), based on resolution or the final results carried out by Manggarai students were, full participation, where they began to be friends with Kupang City students, and acted as if they were students from Kupang City. Finally, the meaning of students from Manggarai about the status of migrant students in Kota Kupang is based on the Phenomenology Theory in which the knowledge underlying the meaning is obtained through direct experience of students from Manggarai, namely: migrant students as change makers for a better life in the future, and migrant students as science fighter.
