Abstract

In factory works, there are systems that need to be followed in order to create a well-ordered process such that Just In Time (JIT) production can be reached. The lean manufacturing principle is one of the solutions for sustainable factory system. Within the lean manufacturing system, there are many tools that can be applied for sustainability and improvement. In this paper, Kaizen, the Japanese business philosophy as one of the lean manufacturing principle tools, is applied to give an improvement in reducing production cost. It is done by continuous observation, note, and analysis of time consumption required by the production line. A new Kaizen analysis from a new point of view is applied by comparing the impact of adding operator to the production line to the Over Time (OT) cost and renewing part of the machine-tool mapping for faster Takt Time (TT). Kaizen activity was successfully analyzed. It shows that the production Cycle Time (CT) can be deducted by 0.5 seconds which will reduce the production revenue cost by 10.8%.

Abstract

A new design of a portable, inexpensive, and easy to assemble horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) system for harnessing wind energy that can be reproduced by individuals in the need of electricity has been implemented. The design still follows the Betz’ law theory to define the maximum electrical power that can be extracted from the wind in an open flow area. From our measurement data, the Betz Limit (C) of our design wind turbine is approximately 0.48, meaning it can capture not more than 48% of the incoming kinetic energy of the wind. It was found also that the system can generate a stable at least 5V and 1A of DC voltage and current, respectively. The wind speed is at least ranging from 35 to 55 km/h (∼10 to 15 m/s). We conclude that this HAWT is still able to charge some rechargeable energy recharging devices, such as smart phone or power bank. This HAWT must be put outside to obtain a good amount of wind. But, actually it does not provide a waterproof protection system to make it usable in a rainy season. For further research, a new portable wind turbine can be designed to generate more electric power with waterproof ability system such like using PVC or acrylic which is modeled by this simple prototype. Keywords: Betz Limit, energy recharging devices, harness, maximum power,  portable.

Abstract

Medirossa Hospital is one of the health care centers in the city of Cikarang which in its operations does not only focus on the customer excellent services but also pay attention to the comfort of the environment and the completeness of the health facilities. One factor that determines the convenience of a hospital is the intensity of lighting. From the observations made by the authors of several rooms at Medirossa Cikarang Hospital, namely the casemix room, medical records, VIP treatment, and the hall leading to the second floor has less bright lighting. This observation was carried out by surveying 26 respondents who were hospital employees and visitors. From the observation, 53% of respondents stated that the room was "not bright enough." To find out whether the lighting in the room surveyed is actually less than the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 6197: 2011), it is necessary to measure the intensity of lighting using a measuring instrument, calculating and analyzing of IKE (intensity of energy consumption) values, which can then be continued with lighting improvement if the IKE value is below the applicable lighting standard. Based on the results of calculations and analysis it was found that the value of IKE RS Medirossa Cikarang is 248.603 kWh/m² year. This value indicates that electricity consumption is efficient, but has not fulfilled the applicable standards. To achieve the intensity of lighting in the rooms that have been surveyed, it is necessary to add a lamp that resulted in additional load of 748 Watt. This study aims to provide analysis and suggestion to regarding the intensity of energy consumption of RS Medirossa Cikarang for hospital lighting improvements which in turn can improve the comfort of hospital employees and visitors

Automation or automatic control is the use of various control system for operating any equipment or device such as a remote controlled (toy) car, switching on telephone networks, and other useful applications with minimal or reduced human interventions. This paper proposes a design and implementation of a remote controlled car by wi-fi technology via computer or mobile devices. In completing this research work, wireless software and hardware technologies have been used, such as wireless module of ESP8266 for transceiver (transmitter and receiver), Arduino Uno as microcontroller, an H-bridge L293D IC for motor controller, and two electric DC motors are used to move the automobile. Two objectives of this project are to expand the limitation range of a normal radio  frequency car using wi-fi technology and also to create a ubiquitous technology for automobile that operates in daily life with a control system. The test result shows that the controlled car can move in any direction. However, the performance depends on the device signal strength where the maximum testing range is only about 20 meters’ distance from the user’s location. Keywords: automation, wi-fi technology, remote controlled car, Arduino, signal strength.

Abstract

This paper delivers a systematic review and a bibliometric survey analysis of Light-Fidelity (Li-Fi) indoor implementation in Next Generation Network (NGN). The main objective of this study is to design a communication network based on NGN-Li-Fi for the indoor implementation which aims to increase user Quality of Service (QoS). The main merits and contributions of this study are the thorough and detailed analysis of the review, both in literature surveys and bibliometric analysis, as well as the discussion of the implementation model challenges of Li-Fi in both indoor and outdoor environments. The issue articulated in an indoor communication network is the possibility of intermittent connectivity due to barriers caused by line-of-sight (LOS) between the LED transmitter and receiver, handover due to channel overlap, and other network reliability issues. To realize the full potential and significant benefits of the Next Generation Network, challenges in indoor communication such as load-balancing and anticipating network congestion (traffic congestion) must be addressed. The main benefit of this study is the in-depth investigation of surveys in both selected critical literatures and bibliometric approach. This study seeks to comprehend the implications of Next Generation networks for indoor communication networks, particularly for visible light communication channels.

Abstract

The motivation behind this paper stemmed from the fact that the world consumes the fast-depleting fossil fuel energy. Before the fossil fuel runs out, new technologies to harvest energy from alternative sources are needed. Sunlight is clean, free and abundant. The market for solar thermal and photovoltaic electricity generation is expanding rapidly. Therefore, an analytical review on the types of emitter for solar thermal photovoltaic (STPV) applications utilizing metamaterials and metasurfaces is presented in this research study. STPV is still important in the development of an emitter technology. STPV classifications based on the types of materials, compositions, dimensions, geometries, and long-term temperature stability are considered. The ability to engineer STPV by controlling one or more of the foregoing physical parameters are useful for researchers. Different types of design and simulation tools are considered. The near future plans are to optimize the efficiency of the emitter and investigate how various layers and different combinations of metamaterials affect such an efficiency by employing a simulation tool such as finite-difference time-domain (FDTD, Lumerical).
