Abstract

Mangosteen reproduces trough apomixes mechanism, from which the seed develops without fertilization. Mangosteen is an obligate apomicts and it is believed that all of its progenies may have the same genotype as their mother plant. However it was found that genetic variations occured among mangosteen accessions. This research is aimed to study of genetic changing among generations mangosteen. The plant materials used were four generations (P1, P2, P3, and P4) of mangosteen taken from Wanayasa, Purwakarta. The samples were selected according to tree height and taken from each sector (north, east, south, and west). Genetic observations were conducted using Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) technique. Ten primers were used to amplify the genomic DNA of mangosteen. It was found that the genetics pattern differed among tree of different age. More variation was observed on the older mangosteen tree. This information may be useful to determine the optimum age of mangosteen for becoming mother plant.

Abstract

Indonesia was known to have high diversity of mangosteens (Garcinia mangostana) and the related species. Inorder to elucidate the genetics variability of the diversity, thirty three accessions were examined by using isozymeanalysis. The genetic diversity and relationships among several mangosteens and other Garcinia sp wereestablished by using four isozymes. The level of polymorphism as revealed by isoenzyme was 88%. Althoughmangosteen is believed to reproduce exclusively through apomixis, our result show that considerable geneticdiversity exists within G. mangostana and between other Garcinia species. Based on 27 bands there were 5-42%dissimilarity level among mangosteen accessions, while the other species has 75% dissimilarity. The dendrogramis built based on isozyme marker analysis to separate clusters of mangosteen and other Garcinia sp. The datashowed that G. mangostana is a close relative of G. malaccensis, G. porrecta, G. celebica, and G. hombroniana. Theconcurrence analysis on isozyme analysis result showed the very good fit of Rolf correlation value (0.914). Thisresult indicated that isozymes could group G.mangostana and the related species.

Abstract

Increasingly limited land in the high elevation and increasing of global temperature needed breeding of cauliflower plants originating from temperate regions to be adaptively planted in low elevation. This study aimed to identify the morphological variability and yield component of cauliflower planted in the high elevation and low elevation. The experiment was conducted in Pasir Sarongge (1,117 m asl) and Tajur II (340 m asl) from June to December 2016. This experiment was conducted with a randomized complete block design single-factor (12 genotypes of cauliflower) with three replications. The results showed that BOB 021 genotype was not flowering in Tajur. Qualitative characteristics that are stable in two locations include leaf attitude, leaf color, curd color, leaf lobing, and curd covering by inner leaves. Vegetative characters and yields in low elevation were higher than high elevation, time of flowering and harvesting in high elevation was earlier than in low elevation. Based on the correlation analysis, an increase in the yield characters can be seen from the increase in vegetative character and increase in longevity time of flowering and harvesting. Keywords: correlation, flowering, qualitative, quantitative

Abstract

Phytophthora palmivora, is a deadly pathogen of duku, causing serious problem in the main production area, especially in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The pathogen can infect duku plant in all stage of growth including seedlings. Organic amended media might become a potential alternative option for this disease management. These studies were performed in soil media containing organic fertilizer of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% (v/v), served as treatment, and subjected to completely randomized design with 5 replications. This research found that incorporating 20% of organic fertilizer into media was able to lower disease severity by 23%. The ability of organic fertilizer to increase media bacterial and maintain fungal density and increase chemicals of C-org, P, K, Ca, Mg and Zn played important roles in reducing disease development.

Abstract

Abstract

A Pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) It is one of the leading commodities in the Indonesian horticultural sub-sector. Based on data from PDSIP in the last 5 years the development of pineapple production has increased but not too high as well as the harvested area. One of the areas that cultivate pineapple plants in Riau Province is Kampar Regency. Its production in 2015 was 8,482 tons, down from 20,046 tons in 2013. However, this amount is not optimal considering the area in Kampar Regency is still large enough for pineapple cultivation. Kampar District has a potential peatland of around 191,363 ha. About half of the area is thin peat, while the rest varies from moderate to deep peat. The success or failure of peatland management for cultivated land is highly dependent on the condition of its characteristics and the mastery and scientific understanding of the character of peat. This shows the need to evaluate the carrying capacity of land-based on its suitability so that it can be used as a guide in wise land-use planning. This study aims to create a fuzzy inference system model with Mamdani method in determining the agroecological suitability of peatlands for pineapple plants, this is due to the target class of land suitability parameters based on FAO provisions, namely S1, S2, S3, and N. Based on the obtained model, decision support systems will be developed for the suitability of peatland agroecology for pineapple plants.
