Abstract

Mercury is a harmful element that commonly accumulates in the environment through anthropogenic activities such as gold mining. This study aimed to examine the use of palm oil fuel ash (POFA) as an agricultural waste to remove mercury in gold mining wastewater. The technology applied in this study was adsorption and precipitation. POFA was first washed until neutral then mixed with gold mining effluent with time variation of 30, 60, 90 minutes. Next, precipitate it for 30 minutes. The adsorbent dose used in this study was 250 mg with 1 litre effluent. The maximum adsorption efficiency observed in this study was 96.77%. The utilization of POFA as an adsorbent reduced mercury levels in wastewater below the allowed released mercury level to the environment (0.0025 mg Hg/L). Results indicate that reducing mercury from gold mining wastewater by utilizing POFA was simple, effective, and low-cost to be implemented.

Abstract

Every plant rhizospheres in any ecosystem there are various living microorganisms including Arbuscular Mycorrhizae Fungi (AMF). An isolation and characterization is required to investigate the species or type of the AMF. This research was aimed at studying the isolation and characterization of AMF sporulation in soybean rhizospheres in Jambi Province. The results of evaluation on soil samples before trapping showed that there are spores from three genus of AMF twelve types Glomus , two types Acaulospora and one type of Enthrophospora. Following single spore culture in soybean rhizosphere, 5 spore types were obtained: Glomus sp-1, Glomus sp-4, Glomus sp-7, Glomus sp-8 Glomus sp-10.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of combinations of pesticides to pests and rice yield with System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in the tidal area. This Studies was conducted in Kuala Tungkal, especially at one of the farmers fields in Desa Bram ITAM Pembengis Kecamatan Tanjung Jabung Barat. This Studies activity was conducted from September to December 2013. The studies using randomized block design (RBD) with 6 treatments and each factor level in re-treatment 4 times with 5 plants sample. Based on the results of analysis of variance showed that administration of a combination treatment plant pesticides significantly affect plant height, number of tillers, number of productive tillers, grain permalai, production data, the percentage of pests, and no apparent effect on 1000 grain weight. In the tabulation of treatment combinations pesticide plant Leaf Extract Rhizome Extract Soursop + Jeringau get the highest production of 3.69 kg / plot treatment.

Abstract

CLEAN WATER PRODUCTION IN RIZQULLAH ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL JAMBI. Pondok Pesantren is an Islamic boarding school where students are learning about Islam as well as science and technologies. Adequate and good quality of facilities and infrastructures are needed to support good teaching and learning process. One of such facilities is clean and healthy water which is important to students and teachers in the Pondok Pesantren. Bad quality of water, either for washing or drinking, will affect students’ concentration in studying. Therefore, our community service project was aimed at improving the quality of water at Ma’had Rizqullah by installing a clean water system using multilevel filtration method. The water to be processed was ground water collected from bore wells in Pondok area. By this technology, the requirement of clean water in Ma’had Rizqullah can be met, al can also supply water needs for community around the Pondok. The product of this technology was clean water that can be used for daily activities by students and teachers living in Pondok and surrounding people.

Abstract

THE PROCESSING OF HOUSEHOLD WASTE INTO VARIOUS TYPES OF LOCAL MICRO ORGANISMS (LMO) LIQUID FERTILIZERS IN PUDAK VILLAGE, KUMPEH ULU DISTRICT, MUARO JAMBI REGENCY. Household waste such as leftover rice and vegetables can be used as a major component in producing Local Micro Organism (LMO). Local Micro Organism has many advantages, including being used as liquid organic fertilizer, as a decomposer in compost processing, as well as being used as bio-pesticides. The purpose of this community service project was to help the people, particularly farmers, in Pudak Village in producing LMO liquid fertilizer by providing them with relevant knowledge and technology. The technology was developed by utilizing of leftover rice and vegetables which are normally treated as unwanted household wastes. This LMO liquid fertilizer is very much needed by farmers to increase their farm output since it was proven to be able to improve plant growth and development, which in turn increase farm production eventually. In addition, this liquid fertilizer can also be sold and resulting in additional income for farmer household, and village community in general. Finally, as is stated in the objective, this community service program has produced output in the form of LMO liquid fertilizer, which then can be applied on farmers’ field.

Abstract

Arsenic is a dangerous compound that accumulates in nature as a result of anthropogenic activities, one of which is gold mining. Effluent originating from the remaining mining is simply abandoned even though it contains Arsenic which is above the threshold set by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the ability of palm shell fly ash to remove arsenic in the residual gold mining effluent. The technology applied in this study was absorption by direct mixing followed by settling and filtering. The maximum arsenic removal efficiency achieved in this study was valued at 81.98%. The longer the contact time between the palm shell fly ash and the waste sample, the less the amount of Arsenic in the waste water will be. The results of this study indicate that the method of removing arsenic from wastewater using palm shell fly ash is very effective, easy to apply and cheap in terms of the cost required.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh beberapa jenis mikoriza terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman kedelai di polybag dan untuk mendapatkan jenis mikoriza yang terbaik untuk pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman kedelai di polybag. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium dan Teaching and Research Farm Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Jambi, Desa Mendalo Indah, Kecamatan Jambi Luar Kota, Muaro Jambi selama 4 bulan yaitu dari 26 Agustus sampai dengan bulan 28 Desember 2017. Perlakuan yang di uji yaitu Glomus sp1, Glomus sp2, Glomus sp3, Glomus sp4, Glomus sp5, dan gabungan Glomus sp1 sampai sp5 dengan pemberian dosis sebanyak 20 g per tanaman dan disusun menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) satu faktor dengan empat ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh jenis Mikoriza (Glomus sp) terhadap beberapa parameter pengamatan, yaitu pada parameter jumlah polong pertanaman dan jumlah polong berisi pertanaman, pada parameter bobot tajuk, bobot akar, bobot 100 biji, hasil per tanaman, infeksi akar dan serapan P tanaman belum ditemukan pengaruh yang signifikan pada tanaman kedelai. Pemberian jenis Glomus sp2 dan Glomus sp3 memberikan pengaruh terbaik pada pertumbuhan tanaman kedelai.

Abstract

An experiment to investigate the affectivity five isolat of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) on the growth of banana (Musa sp.) obtained from tissue culture had been conducted at the Plant Biotechnology laboratory, Glasshouse, and Experimental farm of the Faculty of Agriculture Jambi University. The results showed that there were five mycorrhizal isolates that can be tested for their affectivity on banana seedlings. The growth responses of the seedlings inoculated with AMF was higher than those non-inoculated seedlings due to higher rate of nutrient uptake. Each kind of AMF possesses different level of effectiveness on banana seedling. The application of single isolate Glomus sp-1 at acclimatization time resulted that highest effectiveness.

Abstract

Endophytic bacterium EAL15 and EKK22 isolated from banana plants can suppress the development of blood diseases caused by Ralstonia solanacearum Phylotype IV in banana. This study aims to obtain the best liquid media for multiplying endophytic bacterial isolates EAL15 and EKK22, as well as the effect of the application of endophytic bacteria to the development of blood diseases in banana plants in the field. The liquid media tested were: coconut water waste + peptone, coconut water waste, and peptone. The application of endophytic bacterial suspension on Raja Bulu banana seedlings was done one month before planting, during planting, and 3 months after planting. Inoculum of R. solanacearum was inoculated on roots and banana flowers. Observations were made on the number of endophytic bacterial populations in each liquid media, the severity of blood diseases in plants and the incidence of blood diseases in bananas. The results showed that the liquid media of coconut water waste +peptone was the best medium for multiplying endophytic bacterial isolates. The application of endophytic bacteria influences the severity of blood diseases in banana plants and the incidence of diseases in bananas. The frequency of application of endophytic bacteria has no effect on the development of blood diseases in plants and bananas. Keywords: banana; blood disease; endophytic bacteria ABSTRAK Isolat bakteri endofit EAL15 dan EKK22 yang diisolasi dari tanaman pisang mampu menekan perkembangan penyakit darah yang disebabkan oleh Ralstonia solanacearum Phylotipe IV pada bibit pisang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan media cair terbaikuntuk memperbanyak isolat bakteri endofit EAL15 dan EKK22, serta pengaruh aplikasi bakteri endofit terhadap perkembangan penyakit darah pada tanaman pisang di lapangan. Media cair yang diuji yaitu : limbah air kelapa + pepton, limbah air kelapa, dan pepton. Aplikasi suspensi bakteri endofit pada bibit pisang Raja Bulu dilakukan satu bulan sebelum ditanam, saat tanam, dan 3 bulan setelah tanam. Inokulum R. solanacearumdiinokulasikan pada perakaran dan bunga pisang. Pengamatan dilakukan terhadap jumlah populasi bakteri endofit dalam masing-masing media cair, keparahan penyakit darah pada tanaman dan kejadian penyakit darah pada buah pisang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media limbah air kelapa + pepton merupakan media terbaik untuk memperbanyak isolat bakteri endofit. Aplikasi bakteri endofit berpengaruh terhadap keparahan penyakit darah pada tanaman pisang dan kejadian penyakit pada buah pisang. Frekuensi aplikasi bakteri endofit tidak berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan penyakit darah pada tanaman dan buah pisang. Kata kunci: Bakteri endofit, penyakit darah, pisang
