Abstract

Abstract. Micro enterprises (MEs) have been proven to be significant contributors to the national economy, particularly for marginal communities. However, only a few programs are aimed to encourage ME improvement, especially in rural areas. The community-based entrepreneurship (CBE) program led by higher education institutions has been recognized as an effective instrument to accelerate capacity building for marginal communities. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of this program in boosting entrepreneurial commitment of rural MEs to help them develop their business. Applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB) framework, this research applies a direct survey to respondents from rural MEs. Then to analyze both data and output, this study applies PLS-SEM tool with SmartPLS software. Results reveal that social factors (social pressure and environmental influence) do not incline rural ME entrepreneurs to develop their business. Attitude factors (entrepreneurial benefit and willingness to take a risk) become the most dominant variables, and consistently have an impact on rural ME entrepreneurs in developing their business. To implement the business development of rural ME, perceived behavioral control becomes a main determinant. Demographic profiles (age, gender, and eduction) is also heavily as influential factors.

Abstract

Consumunity theory offers a view in which consumers can co-create the value in-use of the brand.  Given a platform, consumers share their tastes and buy preferences for the benefits of others adapting to their surrounding social values.  Many brand literatures address the platform as a brand community, yet there has not been any attempt to separate between the values of the brand community and the utilized spaces of knowledge sharing platform (KSP) because both platforms have been assumed to be embedded together in one platform.  The purpose of this quantitative research is to show that KSP by its distinct roles and functions other than the values of brand community can also contribute to the brand community commitment.  A sample of 600 respondents was collected with accidental sampling method at three various brand community events in Bogor and Jakarta, namely Kecap Bango Mania, Bogasari Baking Center and Ibu dan Balita of Frisian Flags.  The analytical method employed is structural equation analysis using structural equation modelling (SEM) as its tool to run the data. The result of this descriptive research shows that there is a good probability that brand community commitment can be influenced by the knowledge sharing platform alone.  This finding should be beneficial to the brand producer to consider KSP as an alternative means to have their employees involved in its activity to maintain the moral values of the brand. Abstract

Partnership with suppliers is becoming a critical activity in retail industry to strengthen their competitive position. However, evidence suggested that partnership efforts do not reach their potential due to the effect of external factors. This article presents a comprehensive model that depicts the links among the supplier partnership, environmental variables and firm performance. Data for testing the model were collected by sending a questionnaire to a sample of retail industry in Indonesia. Hypothesized links depicted in the research model were tested using structural equation modeling. The findings show that supplier partnership affects positively firm performance in general term as well as across components of performance measurement. The empirical results suggest that the effect of environmental variables on supplier partnership is: market turbulence has a positive effect, competitive intensity and demand volatility have a negative effect.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The current trend of people's lifestyles is to start consuming foods that are safe and environmentally friendly. The development of information on the usefulness of organic products more broadly becomes necessary. This study aims to determine the impact of value co-creation activities on loyalty to community, mediated by perceived benefit value. The analysis tool used in this study is Structural Equation Model (SEM) analysis. The sampling method used is a convenience sampling approach with 385 respondents. The results show that consumer perceived benefits value have a strong effect on loyalty to the community. In addition, value co-creation activities in the community is shown to be measurable by customer participation behavior and customer citizenship behavior to obtain the desired perceived benefits. The role of the community with the support of the loyalty of its members can be an effective means of disseminating knowledge about organic food products more broadly to the public. Having these results, the recommended policy direction is to increase the perceived benefits of customer community participation and citizenship. Further studies are needed to refine and build a more comprehensive model that integrates other theoretically related constructs. Abstract

Successor-related factors are among the most discussed topic in family firm succession. The purpose of this study is to explore successor-related factors associated with effective intra-family succession among successors. A total of 10 individuals participated in the study. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), four themes emerged from participants’ personal statements and experiences: 1) autonomous motivation to take over family firm; 2) intense relationship between predecessor and successor; 3) personality traits; and 4) shared vision. The findings indicate that autonomous motivation to take over the family firm leads to effective intra-family succession since successor’s passion aligns with family firms’ needs. The intense relationship between predecessor and successor leads to effective intra-family succession in a way an open communication does exist. The smooth transfer of shared vision from predecessor to successor leads to effective intra-family succession. The interesting finding is younger successor differs from elderly successors in perceiving shared vision. Younger successors emphasize on individual motives, while elder successors emphasize on social motives. This work provides deeper insight related to successor-related factors, which leads to effective intra-family succession. In the future, it will be important to explore the potential use of a generational cohort concept in exploring successor-related factor in intra-family succession.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship plays an important role in the economy, among others, in reducing the unemployment rate and improving the economy of a country. However, this was not accompanied by the interest of entrepreneurs in increasing their business. Even though interest is the main predictor in shaping the behaviour and performance of a business. This article aimed to provide literature on what factors can shape an entrepreneur's interest in developing his business. In answering the objectives of this study, a literature study was carried out on the articles about interest in developing a business published in the 2010-2021 period and contained in a bibliographic database. Based on the results of the study, four factors could strengthen the interest in entrepreneurs developing their business, namely: attitude, descriptive norms, injunctive norms and perceived behavioural control with the theoretical approach of reasoned action approach, which are known to be better at predicting behavioural interest because the variables used are more detailed. This research is not only useful for entrepreneurs to increase their demand to develop their business but also useful for related stakeholders to support the increase in-class promotion of MSME actors.
