Abstract

Background: Sexual life is important in the life of a person, i:e. the interaction between male and female. An adequate knowledge of sex helps one to avoid a variety of problems in living, helps prevent sexual dysfunctions among other disorders, adds enjoyment of sex itself, and probably enhances life in numerous other ways. However, modern societies restrict and control the sexual behavior and expression of the young, so that the sex instinct does not prepare young person for a successful sex life.Objective: To identify the difference in perception of the importance of sex education among adolescence between elderly and adolescence.Subjects: The study was carried out in Yogyakarta among elderly (retired person) and adolescence (students in the first year of their undergraduate study).Methods: The study was undertaken using structured questionnaires distributed to subjects selected using simple random sampling.Study design: cross-sectional survey. Statistical analysis: Chi-square technique.Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between the group of elderly subjects and adolescence according to the perception of the importance of the sex education among adolescence (p<0.05).Conclusions: there is a relationship between age and the perception on the importance of sex education for adolescence.Key words: sexual education - elderly - adolescence

Abstract

The harniful health effects of tobacco smoking have been reported by many experts. Death rates are unifomily higher among smokers than among non-smokers, in both sexes and whatever the age at death. Cigarette smoking is also considered to be responsible for the great majority of cases of lung cancer. There is evidence that the influence of smoking in ischaemic heart disease is not only independent, but also synergistic with other risk factors such as hypertension and high blood cholesterol. Surveys in many countries show that smokers cough more than non-smokers and produce more sputum. Cigarette smoking acts independently and synergistically with other risk factors contributing to bronchitis.Many experts agree that the smoking problem is now a worldwide epidemic and causing serious diseases. Therefore, studying the problem associated with tobacco should include, specifically the harmful health effects of smoking.The study was carried out in Yogyakarta among senior high schools student. The aim of the study is to test the hypothesis that there is a relationship between neurotic tendency with smoking. Randomized sampling method were done for the analytic-descriptive design of the study.Results showed that there is a significant difference between group of smokers and non-smokers according to the tendency of neurosis (p<0.05). Results also showed that there is a correlation between the tendency of neurosis and smoking (Contingency-Coeff.=0.44)Key Words: smoking - smoker prevalence - smoker relatives - neurosis - psychiatric intervention

Abstract

Many factor may determine whether a marriage will be succesful or not. Among those factors, probably the important one is the desire and ability to adjust, to each other in satisfying sexual experience. In man the process of sexual activity is somewhat complicated. The act ought to be widely understood, since much human happiness depends on proper sex knowledge and adjustment. Psychological factors may play a role in the failure of sexual satisfaction.Considering the facts above, the author assumes that there will be a relationship between anxiety and sexual problem in married life. The assumption encouraged the author to study the problem.A survey of sexual problems during married life was carried out in the Special Province of Yogyakarta, among cases who proposed divorce.Results show that most of the cases with sexual problems present anxiety. A comparison between the cases with and without sexual problem, shows significant differences in the distribution of anxiety.Key Words: sexual problem - married life - anxiety - sexology - psychiatry

Abstract

The misconception of disease and health of people is influenced by belief In supernatural spirits or magic. This study was designed to contribute to our understanding of the relationship between perceived cause of illness and religious strength. A study was carried out In the Facuity of Medicine Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, among first year students. Data were analyzed using Chi square technique (Mantel Haenszel) and contingency correlation coefficient. The results of the study showed that there was no significant difference between groups of subjects who believed and did not believe in supernatural cause of mental illness according to the religious strength (X2 = 0.88; p>0.05). The results Identified some of the subjects (52.9%) believed in supernatural cause of mental illness and there was also a correlation between such beliefs and the religious strength (C.0 = - 0.13). It was concluded that there was no relationship between perceived cause of mental Illness and the religious strength.Key words : mental Illness - religious - anxiety - mysticism - believe
