Abstract

Purworejo District, which is located in Central Java, Indonesia, is prone to landslides. These are a natural hazard that often occur in mountainous areas, so landslide hazard analysis is needed to develop mitigation strategies. This paper elaborates on the use of an evidence-based statistical approach using the Information Value Model (IVM) to conduct landslide hazard mapping. The parameters of slope, aspect, elevation, rainfall, NDVI, distance from rivers, distance from the road network, and distance from faults were employed for the analysis, which was conducted based on a raster data environment, since the pixel is the most appropriate means to represent continuous data. Landslide evidence data were collected by combining secondary data and interpreting satellite imagery to identify old landslides. The IVM was successfully calculated by combining factors related to disposition to landslides and data on 19 landslide occurrences. The results helped produce a landslide susceptibility map for the northern and eastern parts of Purworejo District.

Abstract

The scientific field has a variety of purposes, one of which is the presentation of data and information which can be used by other parties to support their decision making. Moreover, the information is presented spatially. This research aims to map the data profile of Kaligesing district to establish the region?s potential through thematic geovisualization of its data profile, such as slopes, land use, livelihoods and population. The primary data were obtained from visual interpretation of remote sensing images to extract land use information, and DEM processing to extract slope information. Secondary data were provided by the Kaligesing district government. In order to build tiered spatial modelling, each thematic map was classified and weighted according to its contribution to the potential of the region. Based on this modelling, each village was given a compilation of weights, which were used as a basis for regional potential analysis. From the results of the thematic mapping, Kaligesing has three villages that have the potential for development in the agricultural, trade and service sectors, supported by the potential of human resources, and the abundant non-residential land available.

Abstract

The Bogowonto Hulu sub-watershed has high flooding potential, especially during the rainy season. This flooding causes physical, social, and economic losses for the local community and so the Bener Dam was built to reduce the volume of flooding in the area. This research aims to find out the effectiveness of the Bener Dam in overcoming the problem of flooding around the Bogowonto Hulu sub-watershed. The effectiveness of dams can be analysed by comparing the volume of the dam reservoir with the peak discharge amount generated. The value of peak discharge can be obtained using remote-sensing data and mathematical calculations following the rational method. Using this method, the estimated peak discharge value obtained for the watershed was 302.3 m3/s while the value of dam capacity was only 210 m3/s, giving 92.3 m3/s of flooding potential. It is necessary to reduce the potential for flooding by building an IR reservoir in the catchment area, so that rainwater is accommodated rather than being immediately depleted, and to reduce concentration time.

Abstract

Abstract

The decreased rainfall in Indonesia is mainly influenced by the east monsoon so air pressure from the southern hemisphere which is dry will flow through Indonesia. In a relatively long time, this may cause drought condition on agricultural land in Indonesia in general and in Temanggung Regency in particular. In addition, ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) contributed to the decreased rainfall in Indonesia. This phenomenon will be more intensive and extreme with the existence of global warming. The identification of vulnerability of agricultural drought is an effort to mitigate disasters. This study aims to determine the distribution of agricultural drought and determine the factors that influence agricultural drought in Temangung Regency. The research method used the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to build a model of agricultural drought vulnerability by considering several factors. The results showed that the area of agricultural land which is vulnerable and very vulnerable  to drought is 86,2 km2 and 74,14 km2, while agricultural land with moderate vulnerability is 208,21 km2, and agricultural land which is not vulnerable and very not vulnerable to drought is 128,15 km2 and 267,33 km2. The main factor as a determinant of agricultural drought in Temanggung Regency is rainfall. Meanwhile, the next factor is the respective land cover and soil texture. This research concludes that the effect of slope is not a big impact on agricultural drought in Temanggung Regency.
