Abstract

In this study aims to: (1) produce English learning multimedia products for recount text material, (2) find out the feasibility of English learning multimedia products for recount text material, and (3) find out the effectiveness of English learning multimedia multimedia products for recount text material for class VIII students at SMPNJ. This research method is a research and development (R&D) taken from the Alessi and Trollip model which consists of three stages, namely: (1) planning, (2) design, and (3) development. Data collection through observation, interviews, questionnaire sheets, and tests. Then, the data obtained were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The effectiveness of the product was analyzed using the N-gain formula (normalized learning outcomes). The results of the study are as follows. (1) the products produced are multimedia in the form of English learning CDs for recount text material consisting of instructions, Competency Standards and Basic Competencies (SK and KD), description of material, summary, quiz, and evaluation; (2) the product developed is suitable for use as a complementary medium for learning English for recount text learning; (3) an increase in the average score of all students from the pretest and posttest results of 0.90 (N-gain ≥ 0.7). This means that the effectiveness of the product being developed is in the high category

Abstract

The role of students in Indonesia is needed, especially their ideas and opinions to develop this country. The quality of human resources is certainly very relevant to students' interest in reading. Reading habits are not only related to the teaching and learning process, but also can shape the personality of an individual by living the reading results. The research aims to study the process of reading habits and reading preferences favored by students. The research method used was a descriptive survey involving 45 students of non-English students in Az-Zainiyah Nurul Jadid. In obtaining data to find out the problems faced by students in understanding English reading texts, a questionnaire was used relating to reading habits and reading preferences. The findings from this study are expected to be used as an evaluation material that reading skills also need to be introduced further to students so that they can use them in the reading process.

Abstract

The learning process at the University of Nurul Jadid must be guided by Trilogi Santri and Panca Kesadaran Santri formulated by the founder of the Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School Foundation. Thus, each learning program at the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) of Nurul Jadid University must be able to produce teachers who can integrate Islamic values in their teaching, including learning English itself. To find out students as prospective teachers of Islamic religious education are able to integrate Islamic values into learning English. The problem in this research is, "how is the integration of Islamic values in learning English in the classroom through a religious approach?" This study is an empirical study (field research) in the form of descriptive methods. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis method. The subjects of this study were 17 students majoring in Islamic religious education (PAI) in the academic year 2018/2019. Data collected using observation techniques. The results showed that in carrying out teaching practices in class English III, students of religious education (PAI) had a fairly good competence in integrating Islamic values into the teaching and learning process of English. It was demonstrated by 14 students (prospective teachers) who were able to integrate Islamic values in the learning material they applied. While the rest is only integrated into the opening and closing activities by saying Salam (Islamic greetings) and doing do'a (prayer).

Abstract

English learning from conventional ways to technology-based learning is well known today. It is necessary to know the efforts to use technology against the performance of students. One of the technologies that are currently popular is audio-visual. This training activity aims to improve the vocabulary of students after learning English using audio-visual. The participants of this training are students who live in the excellent language organization [EXO] MAN 1 Probolinggo dormitory. The results of this training activity are expected to provide motivation for students in the use of audio-visual media and can increase a high sense of learning interest and improve vocabulary mastery in English.

Abstract

The researchers decided to implement the Partner Reading Strategy in this research because it is an effective strategy for improving the students' reading comprehension. The students worked together to read, analyze, and discuss the text assigned in this cooperative learning strategy. This research aimed to help the students of the VIII C class of MTs Mambaul Hikam improve their reading comprehension using the Partner Reading Strategy and identify their engagement in learning activities. This research used a Classroom Action Research method as a research design. Partner Reading Strategy is an independent variable, and students' reading comprehension is a dependent variable. The subject of this research were 31 students, consisted of eleven (11) male students and twenty (20) female students. The researchers used some instruments to assess students' reading comprehension: formative tests and summative tests. In collecting the data, the writers used non-tests, including interviews, observation sheets, questionnaires, and field notes. The improvement of students' reading comprehension can be concluded from the improvement of the mean score of pre-test, formative test, and summative test. The summative test was given in the last meeting of each cycle. The result shows that using the Partner Reading Strategy successfully improved students' reading comprehension. Moreover, students' engagement played an influential role and impacted their learning outcomes. Implementing a Partner Reading Strategy can make students be involved in the educational activity and have a high level of engagement to earn high learning outcomes

Abstract

This research is concerned about learning English which sometimes seems to frighten students in a class where they cannot express something with a sense of confidence. The reason students score poorly on English subjects is due to several aspects that students must understand: pronunciation, grammatical structure, vocabulary, and intonation. Community Language Learning (CLL) shows how effective and efficient English language must be taught. Thus, this study was reported qualitatively to observe how Community Language Learning (CLL) was able to improve students' speaking skills in remedial learning Materials for eighth grade students at SMP Nurul Jadid with a total of 26 students. Observation sheets and score assessment sheets are made to collect data in considering the names of students who have low grade criteria. Fluency, pronunciation, expression, vocabulary, and content are used as instruments to analyze their performance. The method of this research approach is Classroom Action Research which reveals that students feel comfortable to join the learning experience, and its effect on their competence in speaking skills with an increasing amount during going through stage 2 cycles; post-test 1 and post-test 2. Community Language Learning (CLL) is considered an effective and efficient method because it contributes to the prominent effects of speaking skills.

Abstract

Student welfare has an important function. Pandemic completely affects the world, especially teaching and learning activities. This study focuses on the impact of student prosperity on student academic performance in the learning process Speaking in online class during pandemic, find out students’ academic performance enhancement after conducting online speaking class using Zoom platform, and know students’ responses in the use of Zoom platform in online speaking class. This course uses One Group Pretest-Posttest Design through which 32 students in the fourth semester of the English Education Department are reviewers. The instruments used to research are student prosperity questionnaires, student pretest-posttest papers, and student response questionnaires. Obtaining a student t prosperity questionnaire before and after the use of Zoom platform tested correlation brings up numbers 0.038 and coefficient of relationship 0.41. The students' pretest and posttest scores were tested through the paired sample T-test, which was significant 6% giving a score of 0.003. The student's idea acquisition is ≥ 630% in accordance with the provisions. So it can be concluded that students’ well-being is well-maintained in speaking online class during a pandemic using the Zoom platform.
