Abstract

ABSTRACT Wood vinegar is the result of condensation and combustion products directly or indirectly. One of the methodes to make wood vinegar is by condensing the smoke products of incomplete combustion (pyrolysis). Materials used for the manufacture of wood vinegar is mahang wood waste from the sawmill industry in the form of sawdust, shavings and slashes. This study aims to determine how much rendement, chemical constituents of  wood  vinegar (phenol, total acid and pH) as well as the colors of the various forms of raw materials. This experiment was carried out using a completely randomited design (CRD) consist of 3 treatments and 5 replications with parameters analyzed were rendement, chemical content and color wood vinegar produced. These results indicate that the form of raw materials affect rendement, chemical content, and color. Sawdust (C1) rendement yield of 14.66 %, phenol content of 15,48 mg/l, total acid of 5,08 %, pH of 2,1 and color of wood vinegar is yellow light brown. Chips (C2) rendement yield of 20,67 %, phenol content of 18,61 mg/l, total acid of 5,78 %, pH of 2,0 and color of wood vinegar is yellow brown. Slashes (C3) rendement yield of 38,98 %, phenol content of 18,80 mg/l, amount 7,72 % total acid, pH of 1,9 and color of wood vinegar is yellow dark brown. Recommended for more efficient utilization of wood waste mahang (Macaranga sp.). As materials are shaped blade of wood vinegar, because it has the highest rendement and good quality wood vinegar. Abstract

Pulai wood have economic value, while durable grade is V and powerful class is IV-V and it is low-grade durable, because of that it is needed preservation on Pulai wood. Many Preservation using chemicals that are harmful to environment and humans. In utilizing natural ingredients derived from plants as safer alternative preservatives for environment and humans, it can be renewable for preserving wood from invading organisms wood destroying, especially termites. Materials used as a preservative is liquid smoke empty fruit bunches of oil palm. The aims of this research are to determine termite mortality, retention, weight lose, and water content as well as know the effectiveness of the provision of liquid smoke on Pulai wood preservation against termite attack. The methods used in this research is (RAL), the concentration of liquid smoke oil palm empty fruit bunches of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% with 5 replications for three weeks is fed on termites. The results showed that using of preservatives smoke liquid at concentrations of 30% has a value of lose weight on Pulai wood of 0.00g/cm3 and 100% termite mortality. Abstract

Since 2008, tourism department Kuantan Singingi district has let to the local community to manage the Guruh Gemurai waterfall in Desa Kasang Kecamatan Kuantan Mudik Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi. As long as, the local community in managing of the Guruh Gemurai waterfall is not run well. Because of that, the purpose of this research is to find out participation level among people in the community in manage Guruh Gemurai waterfall and to find out the relationship between the condition of economic, social, and culture of the people and participation level. The method of this reseach is Random Sampling. To know the level of participation is used Likert Scale and to know the correlation between participation with social economic and culture is used Chi Square analysis. The result of this study showed the level of community participation in handling Guruh Gemurai waterfall is middle level it is 67,5 %. This case couse, local community just handling in planning and running out. there was a conflict between the local community with tourism department, the characteristic of local community is farmer. Economic, social, and culture factor which have effect to participation level are action in group work tourism, side job and side income in the waterfall area. Social economic factor which don't have effect are education level, duration of recidence around location, number of family member, distance between home and tourism area, knowledge about history of the waterfall, participation in county management, potency of art and culture, main job and main income. Abstract

The perpose of this research is  to know the  characteristic of atsiri oil of cinnamon's young and old leaves. this research is conducted experimentally by using some materials, such as cinnamon's young and old leaves, aquades, sodium sulfate anhydrous, and ethanol 70%. The equipments are water distillation devenger type, gourd flute, dessicator, measuring glass, refractormeter, reaction's tube, drop pippette, inject, analitic neraca. The result of this research can be concluded that the yield of Atsiri oil of Cinnamon's young leaves is 0.013% and the yield of Atsiri oil of Cinnamon's old leaves is 0.080% . the Cinnamon's old leaves has bright's index 1.257 , yellow colored with solubility in ethanol 70% is 1:2 (pure). It's related to the standard of Essential Oil Association of USA No.56   Keywords: Cinnamon's young leaves; cinnamon's old leaves; essential oil.

Abstract

Road is a visual axis that is straight, strong, and directing our view like a straight line. In 2014 the volume of vehicles on the jalanJenderal Sudirman in Pekanbaru is 163.296 units per day. The arterial road (urban) shows that the indications of the noise level is quite high. Greening the city is one of the ways in reducing noise. This research  aimed to compare the types and the structures of plants in the median of jalanJenderalSudirman as the noise reducer. This research was conducted by dividing jalan JenderalS udirman in Pekanbaru city into seven zones of observation. Each zone made measuring 20 X 20 m that were determined randomly. The choice of the plants in each indentified zone should represent the existing plants structure along the observation zone. The phase of identifying the structure of the plant in include the measurement of the tree diameter, the tree heigt, the tree canopy, the tree damage and the noise level. Woody plants and ground plants, which have the lowest noise structure, have the lowest noise intensity compared with woody plants and ground plants which have the single structure. Abstract

Eucalyptus sp. is fast growing species reproduced in industrial vegetation forest (IVF) as the raw material for the production of pulp and paper. In order to support the availability of raw material, an effort to increase the stands productivity is carried. In this case, one of the methods is by doing plant breeding with both vegetative and generative ways. The purpose of this research is to analyze the difference in the growth level and the quality of the fiber of the Eucalyptus sp. based on the generative and vegetative method in reproduction.This research using  Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consist of two (2) treatmens and four (4) replications and ten (10) units trial. The result of the research shows that vegetative growth is better than the generative growth with the average of vegetative growth for its length is 0.55 m and the average of growth for its diameter is 0.53 cm while the average of the generative growth for its length is 0.15 m and average of the growth for its diameter is 0.13 cm. The quality of the fiber of the Eucalyptus sp. with vegetative method is longer than the generative method. Keywords: Eucalyptus sp., vegetative, generative, length of fibre

Abstract

Biomass is organic material produced by photosynthetic process, either in the form of product or effluent. Plants, trees, grass, potatoes, agricultural waste, forest waste, excreta and cattle dung are examples of biomass. One of the potential biomass contained in mangrove ecosystem. Mangrove areas have important role for citizen especially in Riau Province on the mangrove palm region (Nypa fruticans Wurmb.). Riau Province is the largest region  in Indonesia covered by nypa plants. Nypa is a type of palm that grows in the area of the mangrove or sea tides. This research conducted in the Lubuk Muda Village Siak Kecil District Bengkalis and  Plant Ecophysiology Laboratory in the University of Riau in November 2014-January 2015. The aim of this study is to determine the potential of biomass nypa (Nypa fruticans Wurmb.) in Lubuk Muda Village Siak Kecil District Bengkalis. The result of this research showed biomass potential nypa in Lubuk Muda Village Siak Kecil District Bengkalis is 382,4 ton/ha or 19.120 ton when accumulated  to generality. Abstract

Forests are natural resource that provides great benefits for human welfare, both tangiblele and intangible benefits. The tangible benefits such as timber and non-timber forest products. Moreover, the intangible benefits such as recreational areas, protection and regulatory systems, micro climate regulators, erosion preventer and as carbon storage. Therefore, this research is aimedto determine the potential of carbon stocks above the surface of the soil one of the areas in Taman Hutan Raya (Tahura) Sultan Syarif Hasyim called Kawasan Tata Hijau Penyambut, Riau Province. Approximately 65.05 Ha, with a sampling intensity value of 3%. Plot determination and data retrieval has done by random sampling which research sampling method giving equal opportunity to be taken in every element of population or region. The collected data includes initial weight value, sample weight and dry weight at litter, seedling and under plant level. At the stake, pole and tree level, the collected data are local names, scientific names and diameter values of stands. The data was processed to calculate the value of the content of the biomass by summing the biomass at the level of stakes, poles and trees by using the equation of allometrik and biomass at a rate of litter, seedlings and lower plants using the formula from Indonesian National Standard. Based on the research that has been done, the potential of carbon content in Kawasan Tata Hijau was 136,28 ton/ha or 8.865 ton if extrapolated to the total area of the whole area.Keywords: Forest, Taman Hutan Raya, Biomass, Carbon

Abstract

Pulai(Alstonia scholaris L.) wood widely used because it’s easy to obtained and demand is quite high. Pulai wood included in durable class V and strong class IV-V, so easily attacked by termite (wood destructive organisms). To prevent and reduce the impact of termite attack, we can utilize natural materials as basic materials botanical termiticide. Materials derived from plants are guaranteed environmentally friendly, because it’s quickly decomposes on ground and does not harm the non-target. One of the potential is jengkol (Pithecellobium lobatum Benth.) fruit skin. This research aimed to know about the effectiveness and potential of jengkol fruit skin extract as botanical termiticide  to controlling termite (Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren.) attack at pulai wood. This research used Completely Random Design method wich consists of 4 treatments and 3 replicates with concentration levels of extract, T0 = 0 g/l of water (0%); T1 = 21 g/l of water (2%); T2 = 42 g/l of water (4%); T3 = 64 g/l of water (6%). The results showed that the application jengkol fruit skin extract at the concentration 4% and 6% is the best treatment to controlling termite, with total mortality amounted to 100%. The value of retention meets National Standards ofIndonesia amounted to 8,58kg/m3 (interior) 4% treatment and 12,35 kg/m3 (exterior) 6% treatment. Both of it also, able to improve the resilience of pulai wood into class II with termite consumption levels lower than control treatment. Abstract

Teak wood furniture is one of the products of teak wood that much in demand. Currently, the development of teak wod furniture business, especially payung sekaki sub-district, has aserious challenge related to the availability of raw materials. Dearea sod availability of raw materials directly affects production costs. Need to do research on production cost analysis of teak wood furniture in perabot Berdikari Jaya Jepara Asli, Pekanbaru. The purpose of this resource is total production cost is Rp.1.078.711.500,00 and total revenue Rp. 1.234.600.000,00 so that profit is Rp. 156.888.500,00. R/C ratio analysis indicates that the industry is economically suitable which 1,145 point and the industry BEP point is Rp. 666. 563.405.00. Keywords: teak wood industry, production cost, R/C ratio, Break even point (BEP)Â
