Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dan mengetahui (a) makna seni kerajinan tradisi ukir macan kurung bagi masyarakat pengrajin di desa Mulyoharjo, (b) pola-pola perilaku berkesenian yang dilakukan oleh pengrajin tradisi ukir, macan kurung di desa Mulyoharjo, (c) bentuk hasil karya seni tradisi macan kurung ditinjau dari aspek ukuran, motif ragam hias dan finishing. Makna kerajinan seni ukir macan kurung merupakan warisan leluhur penduduk setempat dengan unsur filosofis bahwa manusia yang angkara murka, serakah, gila kekuasaan bisa dikendalikan dan dibatasi dengan perisai kebajikan melalui dasar moralitas yang baik. Dalam berkarya seni, pengrajin macan kurung memulai dengan pemilihan bahan alat kenudian proses pembuatan ukir melalui sejumlah tahapan, dari mendesain hingga finishing. Bentuk karya macan kurung berukuran sekitar tinggi 70 cm dan lebar 30 cm atau sesuai pesanan. Motif utama ialah seekor macan yang berada di dalam kerangkeng, di atas kerangkeng terdapat seekor burung rajawali mencengkeram seekor ular. Finishing bentuk menggunakan politur.

Abstract

Learners who have studied the English language for several years are still not able to speak English fluently and they can solve the weakness of English teaching at school or university and the need of society to learn English by English course. ―Daffodils‖ English course in Kampung Inggris is acknowledged as an alternative solution for English learners. The objectives of the research are: (1) to investigate why ―Daffodils‖ English course in Kampung Inggris as an alternative solution for English learners (2) to explore the effects of Public Speaking at ―Daffodils‖ English course in Kampung Inggris. This is an ethnography study research. The ethnography study data are collected through document analysis, via in-depth interview (students and teacher), and observation public speaking class. The research findings show that; (1) ―Daffodils‖ English course solves the weakness of English teaching to learn English, (2) the effects of Public Speaking at ―Daffodils‖ English course can develop students’ pronunciation, vocabulary, grammatical understanding and language experience and give good contribution for English learners. In conclusion, it can be concluded that public speaking at ―Daffodils‖ English course in Kampung Inggris gives solution for English learners to learn.

Abstract

DEFENDS is a strategy for defending position in writing. It is an acronym from Decide, Estimate, Figure, Express, Note, Drive and Search. In this strategy, students will follow the following steps: (1) decide on goals and theme, (2) estimate main ideas and details, (3) figure best order of main ideas and details, (4) express the theme in the first sentence, (5) note each main idea and supporting points, (6) drive home the message in the last sentence, and (7) search for errors and correct (Bisland, 2004: 57). For one thing, writing is one of four skills that are studied by students in learning English. Teacher needs to build the writing habit creatively. Whatever the reason, the teacher needs to help students build the writing habit so that they recognize writing as being a normal part of classroom practice and they come to writing tasks with as much enthusiasm as they do other activities (Harmer, 2007: 329). For another thing, creativity is the ability to produce original work and ideas (Kanematsu, 2016: 9). Tests of Creative Thinking (TCT) is used to find a creativity index and scores for various categories like fluency, originality, elaboration and flexibility. A quasi-experimental design is used in this study to prove the effectiveness of the strategy. The attributive variable of this study is students’ creativity. The test is in the form of writing test and creativity test.

Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime continent region where the weather and climate of Indonesia are affected by various atmospheric dynamics both on a global scale regional scale, scale synoptic and local scale. Weather and climate in Indonesia is influenced by three areas of sea in particular with regard to the sea surface temperature anomaly that Indonesia sea surface temperature, sea surface temperature Nino 3.4 region (Central Pacific) and the Indian Ocean sea surface temperature. The method in this research is multiple linear regression method to predict the total monthly rainfall in Tanjungpandan with predictors Nino 3.4 and Dipole Mode Index, while the independent variable (dependent) is the total monthly rainfall. In general the predicted results by the predictor Nino 3.4 and Dipole Mode Index shows that the value is longer (over estimate) the value of observations. Validation results with the predictions of total monthly rainfall predictor Nino 3.4 and Dipole Mode Index produce a correlation coefficient values and good RMSE is r = 0,89 and RMSE = 81,04%. Indonesia merupakan kawasan benua maritim dimana cuaca dan iklim wilayah Indonesia dipengaruhi berbagai dinamika atmosfer baik dalam skala global, skala regional, skala sinoptik dan skala lokal. Cuaca dan iklim di Indonesia dipengaruhi oleh tiga wilayah lautan khususnya berkaitan dengan anomali suhu muka laut yaitu suhu muka laut Indonesia, Suhu muka laut wilayah Nino 3.4 (Pasifik Tengah) dan suhu muka laut Samudera Hindia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode regresi linier berganda untuk memprediksi total hujan bulanan di Tanjungpandan dengan prediktor Nino 3.4 dan Dipole Mode Index, sedangkan variable tidak bebasnya (dependent) adalah total hujan bulanan. Secara umum hasil prediksi dengan predictor Nino 3.4 dan Dipole Mode Index menunjukkan hasil yang lebih besar (over estimate) dari nilai observasinya. Hasil validasi prediksi total hujan bulanan dengan prediktor Nino 3.4 dan Dipole Mode Index menghasilkan nilai koefisien korelasi dan RMSE yang baik yaitu r = 0,89 dan RMSE = 81,04%.

Abstract

This research aimed to discuss performance assessment in Indonesia as well as learning strategies used by the students in its implementation. A qualitative case study was applied in this research. The researchers spread questionnaire and conducted an in-depth interview to derive the data. From the discussion, some conclusions are derived. First, performance assessment has advantages in EFL such as promoting high order thinking skill, making students familiar with various contexts of language use, presenting tasks which allow students to apply their knowledge and skills from several learning targets, using clearly defined criteria to evaluate how well the student has achieved this application, and increasing students’ motivation. However, there are disadvantages from this kind of assessment such as time-consuming, the assessment tends to be subjective, requiring intensive training for raters, and it may intimidate students. Furthermore, the students apply almost all of the learning strategies as follows meta-cognitive, cognitive, social, and affective strategies. The contribution offered by this research is to give evidence prevailing to Indonesian EFL learning. The teacher can support or provide students’ need by knowing their students’ strategies in learning. However, the students can adjust their learning strategies when performance assessment is implemented.

Abstract

Learning English in Vocational High School has certain characteristics related to the learners' major. English as a foreign language has an important role to be mastered by the students. The orientation of the students after graduating from school mostly gets a job related to their competency. It is in line with the objective of the 2013 curriculum that learners of vocational high school are demanded to have a good character, an adequate competency, and be creative and innovative. As the mean of communication, English needs to be learned both in written and orally so that they can apply the English language in any situations after their graduation. This study aims at analyzing materials need in learning the English listening skills. The subjects of this study are twenty-three students from the eleventh grade of a vocational high school in Yogyakarta. The result of this research may help teachers and institutions preparing materials appropriately.

Abstract

21st century skills necessitate the abilities that students’ need for their career development in the current era. The utilization of Mobile Application in teaching and learning process as the integration of Information and Communication Technology in 21st century learning demands the teacher to get used of it. Hence, this study aims to investigate teacher’s belief on integrating Mobile Application in EFL classroom. To reach the objective, a case study on an individual teacher used in this research. The participant was purposively selected because she was considered as the informant who could give sufficient information to answer the research questions. The finding of this study was teacher believes that utilizing Mobile Application is very important as Mobile Application has ability to make transformation of educational aspects by making use of it to reach instructional objectives then the quality of teaching and learning will improve.

Abstract

This study was framed in English for Spesific Purposes to look into the teacher’s and students’ perception about teaching speaking for Tourism Program. To this end, ten male and female Tourism students and their English teacher in one of private Vocational High School in Surakarta were purposively selected as the participants in this study. They were invited to take part in semi-structured interview. The findings showed that English for Tourism emphasizes more in building students’ speaking skill. All participants shared their positive perceptions toward teaching speaking for Tourism Program. The students perceived that speaking was very crucial for them since it gave such impact to their future career. Nevertheless, there were several difficulties students faced in the learning process including grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, content. There were also some challenges such as lack of confidence, low motivation and limited learning material. However, both teacher and students were actively involved in overcoming those barriers. This study shed light on the importance of collaboration between teacher and students. It is suggested that they should work closely to improve the quality of ESP program.

Abstract

Jumlah santri dan ruangan di TPQ An Nur cukup banyak, maka permasalahan yang timbul adalah jika pada saat materi pelajaran yang sama dibutuhkan jumlah ustaz yang banyak, serta suara yg kurang jelas bila tanpa sound system. Dengan memperhatikan permasalahan yang ada, maka solusinya adalah melengkapi sarana/prasaran Proses Pembelajaran khususnya sound system serta target luarannya adalah suasana proses pembelajaran di TPQ An Nur yang beralamat di Jl Tanggul Mas Barat VIII/270 Kelurahan Panggung Lor Kecamatan Semarang Utara Kota Semarang semakin kondusif sehingga prestasi belajar para santri dapat lebih meningkat lagi. Dalam melaksanakan pengabdian kepada masyarakat, melalui berbagai tahapan, hal ini dimaksudkan agar mendapat hasil yang maksimal sesuai dengan tujuan. Adapun tahannya adalah Observasi Pendahuluan. Berdasarkan informasi yang diperoleh dan didukung dengan data yang didapat, maka pada awal bulan Mei 2020, tim melakukan peninjauan dan observasi yang sifatnya umum pada lokasi rencana Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat sedangkan secara keseluruhan pelaksanaannya bulan Juni 2020 sampai dengan September 2020. Langkah selanjutnya adalah Observasi Lanjutan. Pada tahapan ini merupakan kegiatan lanjutan dari tahapan yang pertama yaitu mengenai pnentuan penempatan peralatan sound system dan inventarisasi permasalahan yang ada.
