Abstract

Abstract

The article highlights Abdullah Saeed’s thought in the light of hadith to promote contextual interpretation of the Qur’an. He emphasizes the significance of Hadith to reach best understanding of Qur’an by putting Hadith as historical reflection of Qur’anic worldview. He argues for five principles that should be implemented in examining Hadith as the source of contextual Qur’anic interpretation. He also highlights the difference of sunnah and Hadith, in which Hadith is perceived as collective cognition not as individual individual perception. Further, he also suggests that understanding Hadith could also be actualized by collective reasoning and human nature (fiá¹rah) and it should be totally relevant to the Qur’an. Those are the prerequisite of Hadith as the existing source for Qur’anic interpretation. If Hadith doesn’t meet the conditions, although it sounds in terms of chain transmission, the Hadith should be reviewed and even rejected.

Abstract

The article explains, at least three important problems, related to how to read hadis through the viewpoint of anthropology as a humanical science, why do it must be solved, and then what are the implications of it, in understanding some hadis. It becomes important to be discussed because, however, Muslims’ religiosity often touch humanity and social dynamic sides, constantly change and evolve. Its aim is clear, to ensure that hadis as second Muslims’ life guide after the Qur'an shalih li kulli zaman wa makan. Then, by using descriptive-analysis research method and focusing on the study of hadis that explain some procedures of  prayer, this can be concluded that, if we read through anthropological approach, the hadis are historical temporal valued. This means that it requires understanding and embodiment that must be adapted to the conditions of human in everytime. For example, the shape of mosque since the Prophet to present time has undergone many changes. So the forms or procedures of worship associated with that adjust for these changes, such as role of shaf in prayer, sutrah use, doing prayer on the vehicle, terrain, boats, up to recommend Muslimah to pray in jama’ah in the mosque, and so on.Keywords: hadis, anthropology, mosque, forms or procedures of worship

Abstract

This article explores the phenomenon of hadith that has become traditions of Muslim society. This study is also called “living hadith” defined as the religious phenomenon such as modes of conduct based on or responses to interpretation of hadith texts. By using the methods of obsevation, interview, and documents and the integrated-interconnected scientific approach, the research found that the phenomena of living hadith at Pondok Pesantren AI-Munawwir and Ali Maksum Krapyak could be classified into three traditions: oral tradition, written tradition, and practical tradition. Besides religious motivations, factors that formed these three traditions are also caused by cultural acculturation between local (Javanese) Culture and Islamic doctrine and differences of the interpretation methods on hadith texts among Muslim community.

Abstract

Along with the development of the era of the study of hadith today, it is increasingly interesting and has good prospects because of the special institutional development in universities, where currently the hadith science study program is separate from the interpretation study program. The realm of hadith study studies is also growing well, where in its history it has produced studies on the science of hadith and certain hadith books. At present the study of hadith science not only examines the region but it also develops into the realm of studies which contextualize and understand in a society known as living hadith. In addition, technological developments make the study of hadith easily accessible to the public, so that they can carry out the teachings brought by the Prophet Muhammad. In addition, the development of the study of hadith correlated with the media is quite popular today, where the reviewers of hadith no longer dwell on the academic dimension, but they penetrate the use of social media in disseminating the results of the hadith studies conducted.

Abstract

This research is based on the phenomenon of people with thick beards and anti- isbal (cloth under the ankles) has become a unique character in various layers of Muslims. The pressing point of prohibiting the imposition of cloth under the ankle is the existence of the arrogance of the person wearing it, so it can be assumed that what should be avoided is the arrogant nature itself, not the imposition of cloth in specific. Meanwhile, the command to keep the beard accompanied by orders to cut the mustache is associated as a distinguishing form with the Majus people in the Classical era. However, considering its temporal nature, which means it is possible to change and by the situation and conditions. For the time being, Muslim identity is certainly not just by relying on beards, especially in situations where beards have become a trend of the appearance of anyone and anywhere.

Abstract

This study examines the spiritual dance tradition of Joged Shalawat Mataram (JSM), a spiritual dance originating from the Mataram Sultanate of Yogyakarta. The focus of this research study is to determine the meaning of ṣalawah in the JSM community. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, JSM is a socio-cultural phenomenon emanating out of religious traditions, classified as a spiritual dance or art of spiritual movements. Secondly, JSM is a phenomenon of ‘living’ hadith. In this sense, the JSM tradition is based on hadith that reflect some basic principles of the Prophet—those that command the reading of ṣalawah to the Prophet and those that command the following of the Prophet’s character. Thirdly, JSM is a phenomenon of symbols of religious culture. Fourthly, as a socio-religious movement JSM wants to convey the values of character education through Islamic art.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v21i3.1220

Abstract

Trafficking in women and children is a form of slavery. Legal laws highly respect human rights and clearly prohibit human trafficking. This trafficking, nevertheless, is mushrooming nowadays, and is like a chain that has no edge. Islam, which comes as a mercy for all, fully appreciates children's and women's rights. Historically, the coming of Islam has elevated the status of women. The Prophet Muhammad was a hero in combating woman trafficking, as it brought about sexual exploitation and prostitution. Trafficking places women as its object and, therefore, the modem society has to leave it. On top of that, the Qur'an and Hadith definitely ban it
