Abstract

Abstract: Critical thinking skills are central for students to become human resources with character. The process of developing thinking skills is currently done contextually within the implementation of learning materials, while critical thinking skills are also needed in everyday life situations. Developmental counselling services through the Problem Focused-Coping Skill (PFCS) strategy are an alternative to foster critical thinking skills through contextual situations in students’ daily lives. Anchored by a research and development model through preliminary studies, product development, and expert validation, the present study unraveled the theoretical validity of PFCS strategy to enhance students’ critical thinking skills. Participants involved were evaluators of product feasibility, namely counselling experts, learning media experts, and prospective users. Analysis of the assessment employed descriptive statistics and Aiken acceptance analysis. The results showed that: (1) there was a need for product development based on literature review and empirical data, (2) the PFCS strategy has been successfully developed in the form of format and content in the developmental service function to build high school students’ critical thinking skills, (3) the assessment of the counselling experts, learning media experts, and users show the validity index in the appropriate and acceptable categories. The theoretical feasibility of the product refers to the conditions, objectives, and processes in the PFCS strategy which accommodates thinking processes in problem solving and information management through students’ critical thinking skills.Abstrak: Keterampilan berpikir kritis menjadi salah satu keterampilan berpikir yang diperlukan siswa untuk menjadi sumber daya manusia yang berkarakter. Abstract

The problems faced by students are currently increasingly complex with the uncontrollable developments of the times and the impact caused by the co-19 pandemic. One solution that can be applied is the use of self-help online reality counseling to help overcome student problems, however, counselors have low competence in the development and application of self-help online reality counseling. Low competence both in terms of understanding and application is shown by service partners who have never implemented self-help-based counseling services for students. Therefore, the implementation of this service provides training in the application of self-help online-based reality counseling to counselors in Malang Raya. The training activity took place in the D3 FIP UM hall with the Malang Raya High School MGBK partner. The results of training on the application of self-help online reality counseling show that in terms of understanding, counselors experience a change from low to moderate to high. Counselors have the ability of counselors to design and use online reality counseling self-help applications.

Abstract

Mind skills become the counselor’s internal competencies that support the counselor’s self-development in providing guidance and counseling services. Mind skills consist of six components that are interrelated and often integrated. The metacognitive thinking process is the key to success in how counselors can manage their thoughts and mental states through these six components. This study examined the success of the reverse roleplay training strategy to improve the counselor’s mind skills. The method was quasi-experimental quantitative with a pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 31 counselors in Malang Raya, Indonesia. Data analysis in this study used two stages, descriptive statistical analysis and hypothesis test. The results showed that the counselor’s mind skills achievements before and after the intervention marked a difference with significant increase. Reverse roleplay increased the participants’ understanding and experience of the thoughts, perceptions, and feelings from broader perspectives. The counselor’s mental experiences involved during counseling sessions become a “full presence” for the therapeutic relationship. This research suggests further research to explore the counselor’s mental experiences in detail. As for practical implication, the reverse roleplay is recommended as a training design for improving the internal competencies of counselors and educators in general.

Abstract

The ideal teacher can reflect on self-development to form a personality that fits the needs of students. Teachers who have achieved a perfect personality figure have a greater chance of success in transferring knowledge and in the student education process. The need for an ideal teacher figure can be a reference for prospective teachers to develop themselves from the beginning of their education. Based on these needs, this study identified the ideal teacher figure based on the student’s perspective. This research design used a survey research design in the quantitative method. The research subjects consisted of 240 students spread across the East Java, Indonesia. The data collection instrument used the student version of the teacher’s personality test. Analysis of the research data was carried out in a statistical-descriptive. The results showed that the four strongest personalities most expected of students were caring, humble, responsible, and patience. Teachers’ ideal personalities help them provide services that align with students’ self-development needs. Suggestions for further research are identifying ideal teacher personalities based on other points of view, including senior teachers, student teacher candidates, and society in general.
