Abstract

ABSTRACT Graph  materials  contains  declarative  knowledge  and  procedural knowledge.  In  Graph  subject  included declarative  knowledge  is  the  graph  terminology  while  those  included  procedural  knowledge  is  how  to determine  the  settlement  of  problems  by  using  the  algorithm  methods  associated  with  Graph.  Dirrect instruction  that  relies  on  principles  of  behavioral  and  social  learning  theory,  has  been  specifically designed to support students learning processes associated with procedural knowledge and declarative knowledge is well structured and can be taught with the pattern of activity that gradually, step by step. ARSC  motivation  strategies  (Attention,  Relevance,  Confidence,  Satisfaction)  is  a  strategy  that  can increase  the  motivation  on  learning  materials  and  learning  activities  of  students.  Application  of  direct instruction model with ARCS motivational strategies is one solution to resolve the issue. The purpose of this  study  was  to  determine  whether  the  aplication  of  direct  istruction  model  using  ARCS  strategy  on graph materials subject (1) the mastery learning is achieved, (2) students learning activities are effective, (3)  students  responses  are  positive,  and  (4)  the  effectiveness  of  model  is  reached.  This  research  is  a qualitative  descriptive  research.  The  subjects  of  this  research  are  students  who  take  Discrete Mathematics course in Educational Mathematics Program, Department of Educational Mathematics and Science,  FKIP,  Sebelas  Maret  University  Surakarta.  The  results  is  (1)  mastery  learning  achieved,  (2) learning  activities  are  effective,  (3)  students  response  considered  positive,  (4)  the  effectiveness  of interactive learning on graph is achieved. Abstract

We have developed a computer-assisted recitation program to improve students’ conceptual understanding about force and motion. The program consists of multiple-choices questions with immediate feedback. The focus of this research was to examine the effectiveness of the program to achieve the goal, using one group pretest-posttest design. Pretest and posttest used the same instrument. Pretest was administered one week after the class discussed kinematics and Newton’s laws of motion, whereas the posttest was administered three weeks later when the students had utilized the program for one week. Subject consisted of 35 first year physics education students enrolled in introductory physics, in State University of Malang. The research found that the program significantly improved students’ conceptual understanding with N-gain of 0.31 and d-effect size of 1.46.

Abstract

The study was conducted to identify the body measurements of Muscovy duck among threeregency (Pekalongan, Magelang dan Demak) in Central Java. Material of the experiment was 210 muscovy ducks at 7 months of age (70 birds/regency, 35 males and 35 females). Parameters observed were body weight, bill length, bill width, head length, head circumference, high head, neck length, neck circumference, wing length, body length, breast circumference, body height, breast length, femur length, tibia length, tibia circumference, maxilla length, and length of third toe. Data of body measurement were analyzed through univariate and multivariate using SAS.Whereas the Mahalanobis distance were analyzed using MEGA 5 (UPGMA) to construct the phylogeny tree. Result showed that there were some differences (P<0,05) between male and female of muscovy duck in each regency at all variables. Wing length and breast circumference were the distinguishing variable between regencys. Muscovy duck from Magelang had a closer genetic distance to Pekalongan than Demak. Keywords: body measurement, muscovy duck

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to elucidate performance of body measurements and to estimate genetic distance among four breeds of rabbit, those were Flamish Giant, English Spot, Angora and Rex. Material of the experiment was 352 heads of four breeds of rabbit originating from three districts of Jambu, Sumowono and Ungaran in Semarang Regency-Central Java. Experiment material was determined by purposive sampling method on the basis of population density. Parameters observed were 1) head length, 2) head width , 3) ear length, 4) ear width, 5) chest circumference, 6) chest depth, 7) chest width, 8) humerus length, 9) radius-ulna length, 10) tibia length, 11) femoris length, 12) body length, and 13) hip width. SAS package program was used to analyze data. Phenogram tree was constructed using MEGA 5. Results showed that there was no difference on the morphometric performance between sex within breed with exception in Flamish Giant. Rabbits in Jambu district tended to have similarity in body measurement with those in Sumowono, but differed from rabbits in Ungaran. Cumulative contribution ratio from the first principal component (PC1) to the third principal component (PC3) was 83.6%. The genetically closeness was shown among Flamish Giant, English Spot and Angora, while Rex had a much different character. Keywords: morphometric, genetic distance, rabbit Animal Production 14(2):92-98

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to design and to analyze the feasibility of universal cylindrical grinding attachment that can be attached to conventional lathes. The research is a quantitative research using ADDIE Reseach and Development (RD) procedure. Data were collected using observation, by means of questionnaire and documentation. Data were analyzed using quantitative-descriptive technique. Results are: (1) the universal cylindrical grinding attachment design is a modified hand-grinding machine with added components to add internal cylindrical grinding functionality; (2) all aspects are in the category of “strongly agree”, so it can be concluded that the design is feasible to use.

Abstract

When a teacher trying to use anomaly phenomenon to encourage conceptual change, he/she will use model process cognitive conflict to anticipate how students may experience cognitive conflict. It can help teacher not to let students have conflict. Conflict Cognitive defined as conflict between structure cognitive (i.e, structure organized knowledge in brain) with the environment (for example, an experiment, demonstration, opinions of peers, books, or other), or conflict between concept in the cognitive structure. Based on the results of the field studycounterexample is important to create cognitive conflict that can support the development of specific knowledge on the students.
