Abstract

One of the highest causes of maternal mortality in Indonesia is caused by bleeding which is indirectly caused by anemia in pregnant women. The need for iron in pregnant women will increase, but the administration of Fe tablets sometimes causes side effects of nausea and vomiting for pregnant women, resulting in non-compliance of pregnant women in consuming them. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of increasing the Hb of pregnant women in the first trimester by consuming sweet potato leaves. This research method uses pre-experimental with one group only pretest-posttest. Based on the result of the t-test analysis, the value tcount < ttable (-11.19 <-2.262) with a significant value (0.000) < 0.05, which means that there is a difference in blood hemoglobin levels of pregnant women in the first trimester before and after consuming purple sweet potato leaves. This can be interpreted than consuming purple sweet potato leaves can effectively increase blood hemoglobin levels of pregrant women in the first trimester. Judging from the average N-gain value is 1.056 > 0.7, it can be concluded that the comsumption of purple sweet potato leaves to increase blood hemoglobin category. Based on this analysis, sweet potato leaves can be consumed daily as a companion to Fe tablets for pregnant women.

Abstract

Gold mining activities in Padesa Village are carried out traditionally, namely with simple and relatively inexpensive techniques using traditional tools and the process of binding gold from the ground using mercury. The mercury residue in the waters of the village of Padesa is 0,002 mg/L anda the average mercury content in yhe waste reservoir is 0,0695 mg/L, which means that is hhas passed the Permenkes Standard No. 32 of 2017. The strategy for implementing mercury-free alternative technology requires very large costs. This causes people to continue to choose to use coils and mercury. The urgency of this community service activity, the low knowledge and awareness of the Padesa Village community about the dangers of mercury and the management of waste water from logs. It is hoped that this service avtivity aims: (1) Increase the knowledge of the Padesa Village community, Lantung Sub-District on the impact of mercury on health and the environment, (2) Encourage the Padesa Village community, Lantung sub-district to change their behavior in managing waste water from logs, (3)Encouraging the community of Padesa Village, Lantung sub-district to take part in controlling environmental pollution caused by mercury waste, (4)Avoiding the negative impact of mercury pollution on health for workers and residents of Padesa Village. The method used is the provision of education to the community through socialization and counseling activities. The result of this activity was that the average target knowledge before being given counseling (Pretest) was 33,89% and increased to 77,22% after being is an increase (Posttest). The impact of this activity is an increase in target knowledge by 43,33% and a change in the behavior of waste water management.

Abstract

The progress of the traditional gold mining industry has a positive impact on improving the quality of life of the people, but on the other hand the progress of this industry has a negative impact on the environment. Mercury contamination from traditional gold mining occurs when the processing takes place which results in the holding tank being full, so that the tailings overflow and flow into the river, especially if it rains, then mercury contamination occurs in the surrounding environment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of a simple filtering device for activated coconut shell charcoal to reduce mercury levels in the waste water of the logs which included optimum contact time, optimum particle size, and optimum reuse. This type of research is True Experimental Design by providing treatment (contact time, particle size and repeated use of activated charcoal). It was concluded that the absorption of mercury waste with the highest efficiency value was activated charcoal particles measuring 35 mesh (0.5 mm) with an absorption percentage of 75.81%, the highest absorption percentage of mercury waste with a contact time of 180 minutes was 88.89%, and the optimal variation of the repetition of the use of activated charcoal is 5 times.
